The Orlando Magic suffered their second loss in this year’s preseason, getting defeated by New Orleans Hornets.
Though, It didn’t look that way at the beginning, when they took a strong 14 point lead, but ended the first one only with 5 point lead. This is the second time this season when Orlando starts the first quarter strongly and ends it poorly.
Hornets bring momentum in the second quarter for a strong start, taking the lead back. They controlled the flow of the game and were dominant at boards, but only till the middle of the quarter. Then Orlando came storming back. Mostly because of Dwight Howard. But the big guy collected his third and was forced to sit down. Then Hornets were able to score a little more points to win the quarter, but not enough to take the lead.
The third quarter, was the highlight of J.J Redick. The young rookie was completely dominant with his jumpshot against Hornets defense. He made all of the 7 shots he took in the third one(including two treys), collecting 16 points in the quarter. But Magic’s defense wasn’t good also. They let Bobby Jackson and some other Hornets’ key guys to easily get into paint and then score. Though, Orlando managed to win the quarter by one point for a fragile two point lead, heading into the deciding quarter.
Orlando Magic were trying to run away from their opponents at the beginning of the last period, but they didn’t manage to do that. Every time Magic made a field-goal, Hornets answered the same way. The game was going like that the whole quarter, but Hornets’ stunned everybody in the last minute. It was a tie with 43 seconds to go, when Chris Paul made his only trey of the night, giving Hornets and three-point lead. Then Magic answered with two points and 32 seconds to go. Magic’s Grant Hill stole the ball and was going for the two easy points, but David West managed to follow him and blocked him. Then Chris Paul netted two more points. And stole the ball quickly in the next possession putting in another two points and finishing Magic.
