Discussion about NBA Live 2004.

I saw someone touch on it in a previous post, but what would be some cool things to add in it?
I was thinkin a NBDL type league, very small, or even an "overseas" league where you can send young players to get better, you could even sign fictional players from the league. It could be like a little GM option that you could follow the league happenings. Thatd be hit
Another thing could be training camp like Maddens. Maybe free throw drills where if you do good, you get some free throw points for your player. Maybe they could do defensive and other kinds too.
I really hope the player progress improves. Last year, it was bullcrap. They need to gain wait, height, and skills.
A major part should be injuries, just like how it is in real life. They should add reoccurring injuries, too. Maybe a player would need surgery, and theyd be on the sidelines in street clothes...that be major...
what do yall think

dude ive heard all of this before!
but yeh i hope they can add those things in the next couple of yrs but we will just have to wait

A training regime, injuries and a realistic NBA atmosphere. Personally, I can do without other leagues.

i'd love the draft/offseason to be more in depth,
being able to bring rookies into training camp and see how good or bad they are before I sign them..
Being able to pick a serviceable nba player later in the draft ( after the lottery picks )..
Sun Sep 14, 2003 12:27 am
one thing should be added, when it was your turn to draft a player and you had a full roster you had to forfeit your pick in nba live 2003,they should fix this feature, man this makes just mad if you have a full roster and you have to forfeit 1st overall pick

it would be normal to draft a player and release other players to make room for rookies..
Sun Sep 14, 2003 12:31 am
Yeah, that was annoying in Live 2002/2003. Apart from having the option of releasing a player, drafted rookies need not be automatically signed, or the rosters need not have the 15 player limit during the offseason (as is the case in real life).

I think that the dynasty mode for Live should be exactly or at least similar to Madden. Training camp, preseason, maybe even an owner mode where you set the prices of whatever EA wants.
Sun Sep 14, 2003 7:01 am
I agree, it should have all the stuff Madden has, and although its kinda cool, i wouldnt care at all if they had the prices and stuff...i dont care how much hotdogs cost, id rather be GM than Owner....videogame wise, though relocating and changing jerseys is hot...
does anyone know if there will even be a preseason in lives dynasty mode? I hope so.
Sun Sep 14, 2003 7:26 am
yeha i mean look at how well madden is doing, follow suit already
Sun Sep 14, 2003 9:38 am
I still think managing ticket prices, concession stand sales and so forth is unnecessary. Consider the multiple roles we already play (GM, head coach, and all of the players). It's not unprecedented for the head coach to also be in charge of player operations, but he doesn't usually handle the business side of things.
But if that side of basketball is to enter Dynasty Mode at some point, hopefully the basketball operations side of things is improved and perfected first. I'd also like the option of simulating/turning off the other management functions. I know some people would enjoy running everything, but I'm really only interested in running basketball operations.
Sun Sep 14, 2003 9:44 am
yeah... but in madden it seems taht if more comes to ur game, the more hyped ur team gets, and the performed better too. at least tahts what happened to me
Sun Sep 14, 2003 9:55 am
That's fair enough, but it's still not the role of John Paxson or Don Nelson to set ticket prices or worry about merchandising/concession stand sales.
Sun Sep 14, 2003 9:57 am
well, i don't think they can exactly pack sepereatly the jobs of over 100 different employees... u know.but ah heck, its suppose to be better, way better, i'll take their word and see how it comes out
Sun Sep 14, 2003 10:00 am
I know what you mean, but my point is they would be representing two sides of running an NBA team - basketball operations and business. The ability to select which tasks you wish to be responsible for would allow you to play the role(s) you desire.

Madden allows you as an owner to relocate your franchise to another city, rebuild a stadium, etc. after a few seasons. Now, that is a good feature.
Also, the thing that I really, really, really want out of live 2004 is a Create-A-Team feature in which you can create your own team with original jerseys, courts, etc. and later take it into Dynasty Mode as your own original franchise. *salivating profusely onto the keyboard* Madden lets you do this. NHL lets you do this. It's about time Live got up to the same standards as its EA companions.

EA is weird in that (according to the guy who gave me my tour a while back, he's employee number 47 or something, so he's been there for a while) the games may have the same features, but not the same coding. All features for the games are built ground up, so it's not as easy as one may think to simply transfer an option like that to another game. It needs to be recoded and all that. My dad is currently doing some work for them to try to help them get a process or something and make it easier to put everything together.

ive said this many times madden's franchise is the best, the deepest. I think many ppl dont realize how easy it is 2 use as it doesnt take 10 mins to do. It does make it interesting howeverfor the slary cap, as if your over the limit you will be penalized. But madden has every managment aspect such as signing contract extensions, calender free-agent signings, its a beautiful franchise.
live does look promising but andrew u say you wouldnt want tictet prices etc, but wut bout airplanes, training staff, manager doesnt do that thats more for an owner. which if ownermode was added it would put in place a pefect franchise, because you need money for players coaches, planes, etc, and the more you win the more momentum you get and the ultimate goal is a nba championship, and why not reward a team with a stadium practice fecilities for winning. Id adds a lot 2 the games plus owner mode is a option which a lot of ppl dont understand it beacuase they havent played it.

Hey Andrew, do you know that if in Live 2004 you are able to sign players before they re-sign with their current team after a season's over. Or if you can match their offer and the two teams can battle for the player. I hated it that players that I wanted always re-sign after the season, I wanted to give him a better offer than his former team. I hope that that's in the game, or else it'll suck a little.

Those players who resign with their current teams do not (at least by the league rules, should not) know what the other teams has to offer. For a certain period of time that is.
As far as I know, a team has some length of time to resign their players or else the players can test the market AFTER that period.

Buying private jets and such is the owner's business, but hiring various training coaches is an area that would require involvement from the head coach/general manager. Obviously, it would be left to other individuals to sort out the financial side of things, but I'm sure the idea of hiring shooting coaches would not be made by the owner alone - the coaching staff would be involved in the decision.
It works both ways though. The owner isn't necessarily heavily involved in basketball operations such as trades and the rookie draft. That's why I believe you should be able to customise your involvement in Dynasty Mode so that you only play the roles of your choice.

I certainly hope it's possible, but I haven't heard anything about it.

I think there should be a toggle at the set-up screen that was something like Franchise Duties: Owner, Manager, Owner/Manager. That makes everyone happy.

The season ends in may right? Well the free-agent period starts in July. So there's like a month and a half time where the teams don't get to throw cash at other teams players. It is that you cannot throw money at anyone then.
So if a player signs with his team, well you never had a chance... Free agency starts in July and then you can throw all the money you have under the limit at anyone. I think there is a rule, that if you offer someone something you will have to honor that contract. I mean look at the restricted FA market. You can give out an offer to a guy, but the other team has 15 days to consider matching the offer and only then you can get him, and you can't offer any other FA a contract if you promised all of your cap to the restricted guy. And it takes a couple of days for any player to agree to a contract...
You just can't go after another teams may be FA... There are rules against that. You can only go after the players that decide to test the free agent market. Like Kidd, Payton, Malone etc. this summer.
There are tons of rules to between the team negotiations and even us hardcore fans no everything about them.

The basketball development league wouldn't have to be anything fancy. In Romance of the Three Kingdoms, your subordinates sometimes take 2-3 months self training. They write letters to report what they are doing and when they come back they have enhanced abilities.
What Live could do is, either have the player come back a better player, or have him get injured and become worse.

It could be like extra teams like the NFL Europe in madden.
