Updated drivers are always better?

Hello guys,
I really need your help to determine my questions:
My CPU was old(Celeron 1.7) and upgraded to Pentium4 2.4(still old but enough for NBA LIVE 2005). But after that, i'm not very pleased with the performance i got. The VGA card is the same (GEFORCE4 MX440 64MB DDR).

So, also i updated drivers from 77.72 to forceware 84.21.

I want to ask:
Is updating drivers for my old GeForce4 MX440 necessary for me running with P4 2.4?

You may say ''you're crazy'' but i think when my computer was with Celeron 1.7, NBA LIVE 2005 was running smoother than now(P4 2.4).

Is is possible and do you suggest rolling back to forceware 77.72 driver?

Thanks for the interest...

I never had any problems with driver updates from nVidia though I must admit I don't have any experience with the MX series. There's no harm in rolling back to the old drivers though, you can always reinstall the latest update.
