I quit drinking soda too, except for Ginger Ale, which I could never give up. I drink a lot of Organic Apple Juice. Most things say it's 100% juice but unless the juice is so dark and clouded that you cant see through it and there's sediment at the bottom, then it's not really organic. It comes in big glass jars and you gotta shake up the sediment before you drink, it's good stuff though.

I like Pineapple juice too, it's REALLY good.

My house is soda free so that killed off any temptation I had for pop. In fact, I avoid pop altogether now, I simply bring my own bottle of water around.

I'm also trying to cut candy out of my diet. My teacher told me that it takes approximately 20 minutes of jogging to burn off one jellybean. :?

Still can't cut out junk food though. Not really addicted to it but I simply don't have the time to make my own food and there's only fast food around my school.

Good on you Axel, a very good addiction to overcome. Maybe cause it's been a REALLY long time since I've had soda as part of my regular diet but I don't understand how soda is so addictive (and I don't want to, I've been clear of that addiction for a long time and happy with it). I mean its really sweet (whenever I'm given a small sip, which is also really rare, I find it too sweet IMHO) and bad for your teeth anyways.

On a side note, I want to ask is Crystal Lite actually a good supplement though? I mean isn't it as bad as something like Fruit Punch (which has also a decent amount of sugar plus has quite some artificial flavouring)? Though I do recall someone I knew that drank this and were diabetic. Is the artificial sweetener stuff they put in the same as that artificial sweetener stuff that diabetic people put in their coffee or whatever?

Sorry, but had to get this in...haven't ate like fastfood (like Burger King, Wendy's, Harvey's, whatever) in 4-7 months, and haven't had McDonalds in almost 2 years :D .

Honestly, I don't think Crystal Lite or Kool-Aid is a good replacement for pop. To me, it's like replacing sugar with a different kind of sugar. I think it'll be better to stick it through with water.

I don't know about diabetic stuff, but there's no sugar in Crystal Light. It's either aspartane (?) or splenda (the sugar-like sweetner stuff), I don't remember which. It's definitely better than fruit punch though.

Almost any kind of juice is as bad as soda. If you read the labels correctly you'll find just as much sugar as any other soda out there. I've become a little more food concious lately and I've noticed that there's a lot of junk out there that supposed to be good for you (juice is the perfect example).

Not exactly true there ... most 'juices' are actually not really pure juice. Anything that says 'drink' instead of 'juice' is crap. Stuff like 100% pure orange juice is good for you even though it still has sugar in it because the sugar is naturally occuring, not artificial. You just have to read the labels to see if you're actually buying juice. Another clue: real juice costs more.

Good point, I remember I was going to talk about artificial and natural sugar somewhere in my post I guess I just sort of forgot.

That just reminded me of Dave Chapelle.

"Sugar, water, purple! That's the ingredients. Sugar, water,....and of course purple."

Speaking of Dave Chappelle, did anyone hear he did six straight hours of stand up comedy at the laugh factory? I hope someone recorded it.

No, I don't believe it's bad for you.

Crystal Light has no sugar and is caffiene free.

It does have aspartame, though, but honestly, nobody is certain of its health effects.

Wikipedia wrote:Some experts/scientists believe that the metabolism of aspartame does not damage the body because: (a) the quantity of methanol produced is too small to disrupt normal physiologic processes; (b) methanol and formaldehyde are natural by-products of human metabolism and are safely processed by various enzymes; and (c) there is more methanol in some natural fruit juices and alcoholic beverages than is derived from aspartame ingestion.[15][16]

Other experts/scientists believe that (a) fruit juices and alcoholic beverages contain protective chemicals such as ethanol that block conversion of methanol into formaldehyde, while beverages with aspartame contain no "protective factors"; (b) exposure to very low levels of methanol and formaldehyde have been proven to cause chronic toxicity in humans; and (c) the low levels of methanol and formaldehyde in natural human metabolism are tightly-controlled and small increases above these levels can contribute to chronic poisoning.[17][18]

I also have some kinds which are sweetened with spelnda, and others that are more along the lines of propel. Does anyone really know if these are bad for you? Sugars are common in a lot of things, as is aspartame. But what about splenda? I've heard that it's perfectly fine for you, but is that really true?

I like to have a little flavor to my drinks. :( Unfortunately I don't even know what to avoid. Splenda, sugar, or aspartame - or all of them? Is that really even possible without drinking water exclusively?

You want to avoid sugar? Squeeze (blender) your own juice.

Buy fruits, blender em, keep them stored cool. Done.
