I try to run regedit and it says that
"Registry editing has been disabled by your administrator"

I don' know why it pops up that message since I'm using the administrator account of the laptop. Is there a setting/window where I can enable it or something? I'm using XP.

I don't have an answer for the first, maybe search for that error message.

Not sure on this one either, but have you considered putting Winamp in your Quick Launch on the taskbar?

"Registry editing has been disabled by your administrator"

This is really weird if you're using your laptop as an administrator... :?
Have you tried the regedit help feature that's in the C:/WINDOWS/Help folder?
Does it do that only if you request it in the run command, or even if you double click on the target regedit file in C:/WINDOWS?

Start>Run and pop this in:

REG add HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System /v DisableRegistryTools /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f

try that

 I don't know how many people would just type that in without knowing what it does. For all we know it's a link to gay pr0n.

I know, you can pretty much tell what it does from the location, but still ...

Thanks Fitzy, I can open it now.
To the others, thanks for the effort.

Wh does that error message pop up in the first place Fitzy? Why did I have to put that line anyway? I'm curious, too lazy to google.

I had the same problem except I couldn't open the Task Manager. I think it was because of some malware/spyware/whateverware because it didn't happen again once I ran Ewido/Ad-Aware.

well just from looking at the line you had to put in, id say that even though you are the admin, some features are disabled, sorta like when you have files and folders hidden on the hard drive, they are there, but you cant access them
