Jazz stop streaking Lakers in Utah
Harpring's late game heroics put Jazz on top

Los Angeles Lakers 100-102 Utah Jazz
( 18-21 , 25-29 , 31-18 , 26-34 )
[Lakers Boxscore][Jazz Boxscore]

1st Half
Utah has been known this season for their great team defense and that is what they showed early on in this game, intercepting passes and forcing turnovers. They also seemed to rely on long range shooting, when the Lakers looked to move the ball inside the paint. Utah got to a good run at the beginning of the second quarter, but Aaron McKie once again made some big baskets to keep the Lakers within seven at the half.

2nd Half
The Lakers took the lead right away with a 13-6 run, lead by Chris Bosh, who seemed to take the upper hand in the battle with Carlos Boozer. Lakers got solid production near the basket, while Utah's plans of taking over with long range shooting seemed impossible. In the fourth Jazz changed their gameplan and started driving aggressively to the hoop and it paid off. Bosh kept the Lakers in the game and his efforts resulted in Boozer's fifth foul early on and opened the door in the paint once again. Kirilenko however made some clutch three pointers and this game was in for a tense finish.
The game was even 96 with 1:41 left. Matt Harpring made clutch three pointer with 32 seconds left to lift the Jazz within one 100-99. After that the Lakers looked for Kobe to deliver the final basket but this time it didn't work. Utah's possession with 8.8 left. Harpring launches yet another three and makes it leaving 1.1 on the clock. The Lakers can't get a good shot and Utah comes out on top.

Standings, 13 best teams of the league.

Live 04 is too realistic, Kobe isn't considered a MVP candidate, althought this time he leads in scoring and the team is the best in the league.

Love the ingame screens man, 04 looks great. The stats are also suprisingly accurate, like Arenas scoring 29 per. You very rarely see a point guard scoring big in simmed games in NBA Live. Actually that reminds me, in Live 2003 I used to get absolutely destroyed by Chris Whitney every time I played against his team (which was?). He must of dropped 50+ on me on several occasions

1st Half
Chris Bosh has been a force in the paint this season and he started off strong in this one, taking over Lakers' offense after Bryant had to sit due to foul trouble. Both team played aggresively in the post forcing things, causing lots of missed shots and offensive fouls. The Knicks opened the second quarter strong but then it was Kobe time again as he cut the lead to six points at halftime.

2nd Half
Lamar Odom ignited a Laker run right away in this offensive highlight reel with lots of dunks and fastbreaks. Bryant once again took over in the fourth hitting shots from all over. The Lakers had a three point lead with 22 seconds left, as Lamar Odom hit a game sealing three. But that wasn't the end of it. With 22 seconds left, the Lakers hit 12 points with intercepted passes and fast ball movement to provide the Knicks fans their money's worth for once this season.

Thanks. Yea, the crowd system is good, but it's weird because I'm leading the league and still home games are half full :D 2001 had a great system, the amount of crowd depended on the teams success, it was packed if you lead the league etc., in 2004 it seems kind of random.

Btw, MSG in 2004 is the greatest arena in Live history, looks spaceous like it should.

From what I remember of 2003, its crowd system was pretty good. I remember Lakers/Kings games being packed and the poors Hawks having close to nobody in the stadium. EA needs to bring that feature back (Y)

Amen.

EDIT: The merging of all dynasty into one sub forum was a great idea, most "classic" dynasties go unnoticed when they shouldn't.

I do resize them and sharpen them but that's all. All jerseys are from Jowe's 2004 jersey pack, still downloadable at nbavg.org
If I do make it to season two I'll make a new recap style, already bored this one but maintain it to retain consistency, and maybe add an effect to the screenshots something like Marquis does.

Yea I remember it too now, there was a single value in the dbf files that defined the crowd interest. One single field, and EA took it away :? I remember it better in 2001 though, since 2001 had better crowds than 2003

Coaches, managers furious towards NBA
Jackson claims new feature as an marketing opportunity

The NBA introduced the Official MVP Candidates Leaderboard brought by NBA's new main sponsor EA Sports this season as a new feature to the NBA atmosphere to accompany current players of the month awards. The first tryout didn't end up as they expected though, and the fans should be scrathing their heads as well.

Currently the board has Tim Duncan ranked number one, followed in order by Jermaine O'Neal, Jason Kidd, Kevin Garnett and Gilber Arenas. Tim Duncan is playing for the San Antonio Spurs, who have already been eliminated from the playoffs. The fact that the board is being lead by a player of an inferior team has ignited some heated debates about the new feature and the league's deeper motives to promote certain players and teams.

"Duncan currently plays for the worst team and the league and is considered the most valuable player? The new feature is just a marketing gimmick," said Phil Jackson, coach of the Los Angeles Lakers. "This is going too far, there clearly is an officiating issue but this makes it clear that the league is clearly putting players in unequal positions."

It is certainly peculiar that there is no consideration for players from the Lakers, Detroit Pistons, Cleveland Cavaliers, Phoenix Suns or Denver Nuggets, who clearly are the best teams in the league in addition to New Jersey Nets, who happen to have Jason Kidd on the list.

Let's take a look at the list in order. Stats can be found again at the bottom of the list.

1. Tim Duncan
Duncan is putting up nice numbers, but the fact that his team is the second worst team in the Western Conference and already been eliminated with a month left certainly shouldn't give him consideration as an MVP candidate, yet he is the number 1 choice? Insane... Duncan isn't even in the top 10 in points per game, where does his status come from? The ugliest shoes?

2. Jermaine O'Neal
Yep, the league has lost it's mind. Indiana is the fourth worst team in the league and JO is posting worse numbers than Duncan, except points. No MVP status here.

3. Jason Kidd
The Nets are second in the Eastern Conference with a record of 15-11, so Kidd's position here is legitimate, out of these five candidates, Kidd is the one who has moderate chance of earning the trophy.

4. Kevin Garnett
The fact that KG is finally getting MVP consideration is good. The bad? The West has six teams above the Timberwolves. Then again, Garnett is competing against Duncan for the best numbers of the PF position of the league, so his spot here is ok, certainly more than Duncan's.

5. Gilbert Arenas
The league's reluctance of promoting Arenas might have come to an end. Arenas, currently in the league second in scoring has Washington 13-11 with the tied fourth place in the East and his spot here is well earned.

Image

Editor's Picks

After all the hussle, here is the editor's picks for the MVP trophy 2006-2007 heading into April:

1. Kobe Bryant - Los Angeles Lakers
The best team, #1 scorer, what more do you want Kobe to do? The Lakers have been destroying the league with the Kobe-Odom-Bosh trio and one of them should be awarded, who else but Bryant.

2. LeBron James - Cleveland Cavaliers
No love for Bron? 22.1 ppg, 5.8 assists, and the Cavs are third in the East.

3. Jason Kidd - New Jersey Nets
The Nets are doing fine and Kidd has been the key, while Carter has diminished a bit and Jefferson has been nowhere to be seen.

4. Kevin Garnett - Minnesota Timberwolves
The Wolves have finally turned it around but have some work to do to keep them on the light side. If they make the playoffs, Garnett can stay in this spot, if not, it's out of the Top 5.

5. Anyone from the Pistons, Mavericks, Suns or Nuggets
In addition to the Lakers, these are the only teams to have less than 10 losses with great team play. Billups, Nowitzki, Nash or Melo, anybody?

Good update. EA's MVP candidates are dumb, that's sure.

Suns and Mavs are on the serious winning streak now, don't let them take the 1st place.

1st Half
The game opened with the Lakers playing the best basketball all season, especially on the defensive end. But on the offensive end, Miami had no answers. They got into foul trouble very early and Los Angeles would just keep coming at them, while Miami was forced to take desperation threes. At the half the Lakers had scored 78 points and lead by 36, the same number of points Kobe Bryant had that moment.

2nd Half
The Lakers started the second half a bit sloppy but picked up their pressure pretty quick. Shaquille O'Neal, Dwyane Wade and Antoine Walker picked up their fourth fouls early in the third and left Miami without offensive firepower, and the Lakers were once again on cruise control. Dwyane Wade had his moments in the fourth, but this one was a blowout, an offensive one.

 Wow... 78 points at the half and a 36 point lead is rediculous. Smush/Kobe screens look real nice. Kobe 18/25 is pretty damn crazy, even if it is a video game. Good luck against the Suns, SUns/Lakers games are always good. By the way, boxscore should say 'Heat' rather than 'Knicks'. (Y)

Hehe thanks for the heads up.

This was one of the most fun games I've ever played for the fact that everything was dropping. Actually I went to the pause menu to check if some option had been changed, but no, it just was like that.

I just realized I haven't updated this for a while, got caught up in other things. I tried to finally make the last edit on my 2004 Mixtape but the program fu*ked it up so...

I won't retire this dynasty, no no... jsut don't feel like updating it now. After SUM07 release, I might start a 07 dynasty but not still sure which team and what kind of dynasty. I'll keep this dynasty alive, since I never know when I feel like returning to 2004 again.
