This guy has gained quite a bit of attention ever since his "Why I hate Blacks" article was published in AsianWeek. My teacher was the one who brought up this guy and showed us the article.

I am Asian myself and I feel some of these comments are a pretty harsh and not entirely true. However, some of his comments are realistic based on where I live.

I agree with the "Why White People Hate Us" for the most part. I mean, it's very hard to see Asians on TV or in the movies that don't do karate or work on computers... for once, I'd like to see an Asian as the "normal" guy, kinda like in Harold and Kumar Go To White Castle.

As far as the "why I hate blacks/asians", those are racists remarks by a racist. I'm curious to find out how old this guy is because he sounds like a bitter, old Asian that has nothing better to do than bitch and moan. My Grandma and her brothers were/are racist against blacks. That is until her niece got married to one of them. It took her brother a long time, but he eventually warmed up to the idea of a black man being an important part of his daughter's life. Never have I experienced anything to make me even think that "blacks hate us". Sure, maybe some occasionial ribbing do to your usual Asian jokes, but nothing anybody else wouldn't do. Frankly, i am ashamed to be Asian when I see that because people see that and begin to think that all asians think that way, and it makes me look bad.

Racism towards asians is a very common thing over here. I agree with the "Why whites hate us" from what I have seen but the "Why I hate blacks" thing is bullshit. I never see a black guy expressing racism towards asians other than the usual joke as Q said. In fact, I barely ever see a minority expressing racism towards another minority, unless it was brought on by something. I agree with him when he says racism towards blacks is perceived as so much more of a big deal than racism towards asians.

The reason racism towards asians over here is so common is, and I say this in the nicest way possible (and no I am not racist), is that they bring it among themselves. When you go out, there are much more asians than there are regular NZers. They come here to learn and the majority of them can't converse with the average person because they can barely speak english. I think alot of people get sick of walking down the streets of there own town and hearing foreign asian languages being spoken far more than english.

There are some things that get people really angry over here with asians. When you country is "overrun" by them (sorry but it is), the slightest thing can set some people off. Things like bad asian drivers. For the most part, at least here, the stereotype is true. The fact that it is impossible to deal with them is a huge annoyance to some people. It seems like the own residents and citizens of the country have to bring a translator round with them, as if they were the foreigner. One other thing is asians using the fact they are asian to their advantage. I have seen on many occasions and asian get into trouble (eg. getting pulled up by the police) and pretend to not speak english to try get out of it. One time in town I saw a young guy ask an asian student for 50c so he can get home, and the guy pretended to not be able to speak english. Problem is, he was speaking english with his friends right before, and both the guy and I heard him. The result was the guy asking for money expressing racism towards him.

Personally, I think the fact that there are simply to many isn't the main problem. That wouldn't be a problem if they could speak english. Then NZ would seem like NZ again.

I'm sorry to all asians if I sound racist, I really don't mean to sound like that, but its hard to speak about the problems with another race without sounding like that.

The Kenneth guy, I'm pretty sure lives in San Francisco (as do I) and the comments he makes are pretty accurate to me based on what I see everyday. I agree with the article on how cops kind of let things slide for white people (I'm not a racist either). A couple months ago, there was an Asian kid eating at this pizza place. He was by himself and four or five white kids were eating there too. Then they just suddenly assault the Asian kid and when the cops came, they did catch the White kids, but let them go without any punishment.

I gotta agree. Another thing is the smoking, alot of them seem to have no courtesy as to where they smoke, blowing it out right into peoples faces as they walk by, etc.

yes, they are called "FOBs". Fresh Off The Boat. there are a lot of FOBs here that were born here too. It pisses me off. My school of 30,000 students or so is over 50% asian so it's pretty noticable. there are A LOT of FOBs here that don't speak English and can't drive, so it seems like a lot of people here think this school is "overrun" by them like Flite pointed out. I hate FOBs. They make me and every other white-washed Asian look bad. They should learn English. or at least use it more.

Q, I think Asians(and Indians) need to be more vocal and stand up to the racist forces in society. There is this perception of Asians & Indians being "model minorities". People will keep f-n with you if they think they can get away with it. But this Kenneth Eng is nothing but a tool. His remarks about blacks & slavery show he's ignorant of history.

The TV & Hollywood Asian stereotypes will only change once you get more Asians behind the scenes(writing & directing). That's true for every group.

As for blacks hating asians(and vice versa), no group is free from prejudice. Racism will be here until doomsday. Folks don't have to like/or live with each other, but we do need to respect and understand each other's differences. If I hate someone, it's not based on skin color - it's based on their stupid & ignorant views.

FOB's in the correct term is foreign-born, but the ABC's started saying Fresh-off-the-Boat a while ago. I am a FOB myself, but I've been in America for around 10 years. In my school, the Asians are pretty much split into three groups.
The HK's-Dress out of the ordinary and all the guys have dyed bangs on one side.
The FOB's-NorthFace backpacks, NorthFace Jackets, dyed bangs, diamond earring on left ear. Talking in Chinese and English.
The White-washed Asians-No friends, don't know shit about their own culture or speak little Chinese.

Asians aren't very discriminated here. My boss has this thing against a chinese co-worker, but the guy just keeps giggling like a girl about it so it doesn't surprise me the boss keeps making cracks about it.

He's never tried it with me though. Then again...they see me as Antillian opposed to Indian (even though both my parents/grandparents) are full blood Indians. That has to do with the fact that me & two other Antillian guys converse in Papiaments constantly, so they keep feeling we're talking about them.

Till date no one has taken a shot at me because of the color of my skin or because I just look Indian.

I think the FOBs I know of are closer to what Qballer has spoke about. The FOBs that mvpshaq32 describes IMHO are closer to ABCs, or CBCs (depending on American or Canadian), who dress normally, but speak a fairly even mix, but at times speak somewhat more Chinese than English. The fact that a lot of them are really cocky in general and about the fact their FOBs doesn't exactly help. My school is pretty much 47.5% Chinese and 47.5% "Brown" as in all the Sri Lankan, Indian, and Pakistanian(if I'm being offensive, sorry, but its the easiest way to group the people), and the remaining 5% is everyone else. For the Chinese people, about half of them are FOBs, which is still a high amount. They all dress the same way, many with dyed hair and stuff, and I don't know if this is true for you mvpshaq32 or Qballer, but the FOB girls also dress like these shirts or sweaters with brands along with a slogan you've never heard of, and wear these jeans that are normal at around the top but they get real tiny once they get to the feet; and for the feet, they wear these REALLY tiny shoes.

Yes, I understand exactly what you're talking about. I was about to say something like that but couldn't find the right words. That style is from HK and we those people the "HKs." My school has like 50% Asian, 45% African-American and Hispanics and 5% Whites. There's quite a lot of racism between each race. Plenty of times, I've heard Hispanics calling us "Chinks" in spanish, but surprised that some Asians reply back by saying "Wetbacks" in Spanish.

Everyone keeps on bringing up the whole high school numbers. Once you outside into the real world the numbers aren't that skewed. The asians grow up, they learn english and in turn speak better then white guys who do nothing but sit around and bitch.

I would say FOBs are more like the people that speak almost entirely in Chinese or whatever language they speak. They speak it to their families and their freinds (because they all hang out in packs). They most likely have dyed their hair brown. They either look borderline gay or stuck up to the point where you would enjoy punching them in the face.

Then there's the baller/gangsta asians wear baggy pants, those flat-billed hats, and sometimes talk gangsta. They play basketball for the most part

then there's the white-washed ones like myself. we either grow up in white suburbia or have really progressive (read: not old-fashioned) parents. Like Jowe said they speak english well or even better than white people. We are in all of your AP classes in high school. and yes, they usually know little or nothing about their own culture... it's mostly due to the fact that it's not really talked about in Asian families, especially if they came from something tragic like the Vietnam War like my family

can't think of any other major asian groups at this point.

And as for Asian racism and as an Asian myself, I've rarely experienced racism in Canada. There are a few remarks here or there, but usually in a joking manner. I dunno how it is in the states, but it's pretty good in Canada.

Man, I don't know how to judge those numbers, but last time I was visiting China, the driving was horrible and messy. Most drivers are practically oblivious to traffic lights, shoulder checks, light signals, but their hands are usually on the horn.
