I agree. I personally believe he will be back. I think he will be back late 07/08 season or the start of the 08/09 season but thats just based on how I feel. Its a serious injury and as more details come out the more we can speculate. That is what I think right now, it may just be the fact I can't bear to see yet another young player stuffed with potential, and a good guy like Shaun, go down again.

I read a bullshit article on yahoo ripping on him for not staying in school and saying how the league's minimum age would've helped him, he would have a Duke education blah blah. what a load of crap to say when he's in his 3rd year in the league. very few players expect something like this to happen. so even though in theory he could live off of what he has already earned, with wise investment, he probably wont be able to. he probably already has spent most if not all of the money he has made so if he cant play again he will wind up some where making a honest living.

Sauru, what you are talking about is the biggest reason for these kids to go to college, in my opinion. They need to have something to fall back on just in case. Just look at some of the former NBA players. You are constantly hearing about guys selling off memerobillia to pay their bills because they didn't save any money. These kids either need an education to fall back on, or they need to learn how to save thier money. They all get into the leauge and spend every penny they make. I believe some of that has to do with the hip hop culture of the NBA. Everyone comes into the league and thinks they need thier mansions and their cars just to fit in.

Physician Hoping Livingston Can Be Back In 6-8 Months

I know he said "hopes" but the Physician knows what he's talking about, and they tend to over exaggerate the predicted time out on purpose to keep everyone in check before they find out more about the injury.

6-8 months sounds good, but at this point, I would be considering sitting out the entire 07/08 season (if all goes to plan) just to make sure.

It's diferent, Charles was older and was almost retired. The 15 years might be a big enough didfrence to make Livingston able to play at a low level in a few years.

Also Flight_23, just because one doc is optimistic, I would go with the other 10 docs even if they are all pesimists.

I think the best situation to compare shaun livingston to is the one that happened to dermar johnson. roughly the same age, both high lottery picks, both projects at the time of their injury and similar body built. Livingston could make a similar return, but just like dermarr, he would have to content himself with minimum $$$. Because livingston hasn't showed anything yet, and I doubt be able to prove himself to become a superstar, especially now that he will be limited. I predict it is most likely that he will try to make a return in the 2008/09 season. But returning to the league will mean he would have to make his rounds competing in summer leagues or even playing in the NBDL. Even if he makes a full recovery, I don't think anyone will give him a contract of more than 2mil or more than 3 yrs.

Well, Shaun is one of those "large points" isn't he... He's like 6'7" tall, right?

So even if his knee does rob him some of his quickness he could easily convert to playing a shooting guard or a point forward. Get some muscle to bulk up and then defend the guys that aren't the quickest in the league... Being a point guard turned into a forward is a thing that most of the teams in the league covet. Someone that can handle the ball and can also distribute like a point guard. Thus having two play makers on the court instead of one. Much like Phoenix with Nash and Diaw...

But we are all way ahead of our selves with this... Let's just see how the surgery goes and what the docs say after that. Then we will know something more concrete. We are all purely speculating at this point.

He can go to college now. To study. He doesn't have to run and jump to do that. Only, he'll be a few millions richer than before. Not every baller acts foolishly with their money, so, I think the argument is based on a false assumption that every jock burns the NBA millions. And Shawn still have a few millions to collect on this current contract. He'll be fine...
