Ouch man, that sounds painful.
My worst I have right now and have had for about 7 months. I made a thread about it a while back asking if anyone had the same type of pain in their knees for extended periods and if they healed.
Last week I found out it was patellar tendonitis. The problem is, once you get it, you need to rest your knee for 6-8 weeks and then begin rehabbing it. I injured it, sat out 3 or so days, played again, re injured it and so on, and that is why I have had it for so long. I rested about 5 weeks at one point, and went straight back to basketball and re injured it, because the knee was so weak from so much rest and it hadn't yet gone through the rehabbing stage to get strong again.
I have just started back at school and am taking P.E where we do a 3km run 4 out of 5 days of the school week. My teacher said I can sit out for the time I need before I begin rehabbing it but I decided to test it on the run and was very happy because I was almost completely painfree. The second day, same thing. I'm pretty excited to get back to playing again and will be going to physio starting next week so he should be able to let me know where I am at and if it is safe to start rehabbing and keep on running.
Other than that, I once went up for a layup, got swept from underneath in midair and landed in a handstand position. Severely sprained both my wrists.
