2K Sports Announces All-Pro Football 2K8

NEW YORK, NY – January 31, 2007 – 2K Sports, a publishing label of Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. (Nasdaq: TTWO), announced today the return of football to its video game line-up with All-Pro Football 2K8. The critically acclaimed 2K football series once again hits the gridiron with the legendary gameplay, innovative features, and outstanding visual quality sports gamers have come to expect from 2K Sports.

"Football gamers have been awaiting the return of the 2K series," said Greg Thomas, president of Visual Concepts, a 2K Sports studio. "All-Pro Football 2K8 will deliver an authentic next generation gridiron experience and we are happy to give fans another choice in the football category."

All-Pro Football 2K8 will be available this summer on next generation video game systems.

I'm pretty pumped for this. I was always a fan of the 2K series especially in the football department. I can't wait for this.

All-Pro Football 2K8 announced by Take-Two Interactive, 2K Sports

Tags: Electronic Arts, 2K Sports, NFL, Midway Games, Greg Thomas Four long years after Electronic Arts managed to gain the blessings of the NFL and began a monopoly on football-themed video games, it looks like the company may now finally have to watch out for some competition.

So, taking the cue from Midway Games (who previously decided that it didn't need a contract with the NFL in order to make a video game about football), 2K Sports is now getting up from the sidelines and has just announced its latest title, All-Pro Football 2K8,scheduled to be released by this summer. The company though has not yet specified which console/s this game's for, and its announcement merely says that it will be for "next generation video game systems".

This re-entry by 2K Sports is a welcome news for fans of football video games, as this broadens the range of choices within the genre. However, there is the question of what sorts of players and teams this new title can offer, since the NFL players are already taken. It has been speculated that 2K sports can either create whole teams of fictional players, or work with popular players of previous years, though this latter choice would entail signing individual deals with the players the game company wishes to have on board.

Despite this looming issue, Greg Thomas, president of 2K Sports Studio Visual Concepts, is confident with the company's new venture. "I think that we've come up with some very unique ideas on how to play a football game and I think that there's room for both."

Yeah this is going to be pretty good if they somehow can get an NFL license. But regardless someone will make a roster with NFL players and stuff. So I'm really looking forward to something other than Madden.

No one will make a nfl roster for a console game. I'd love to see them make it with old legend players though.

Well I mean if people take the time to make rosters for console games like March Madness, College Hoops 2k7, and NCAA Football 07, I don't think it should be a problem for die hard football fans. I know some people that are strictly espn football 2k5 players and I guarantee some people will change the rosters enough so that they feature NFL players.

used to play the 2k football games on my dreamcast and they were fucking amazing...ESPN 2k5 was pretty damn good also. While maddens more in depth, 2k had more than enough features to please most gamers and doesnt have the ego madden has about being the frontrunner. They arent afraid to try new things. For instance 2k5 had 1st person play. You played with the view your player actually had. made quarterbacking much harder as you had blind spots etc.

Madden is good graphics, rosters, knowing of the game-wise, but 2k series are much better gameplay-wise, you can always find some big in the game and beat ur opponent by cheesing the whole game in Madden, 2k is different, not many bugs to exploit the game and get easy win.

So, this game will be like Blitz: The League but with NFL rules?

Well yeah it will be 2K gameplay and shit, just without an NFL license. So no real team names or players.

Ehh, it will be fun for a while. Eventually I think that it will start to get boring with no real players and no real teams.

Well in theory they could do that, but it's highly improbable. Becuase then that would stir contreversy with Madden and the NFL. I think they're going to make teams with the same colors and players with the same ratings. They will call the Bears like the Grizzlies, or Cubs for example. And the Broncos might be called the Stallions. But players I don't think they can make a Payton Maning and get away with it. Look for Michael Vick to be Ron Mexico.
