When Blazers owner Paul Allen sold the team to unknown entrepreneur Scott Klein, the Basketball world didn't know what to expect. Liam Washburn, a long-time member of the Trailblazers organization was surprisingly named as General Manager. After a terrible 21-61 season, Klein told him to revamp the roster, turning it into a playoff team. With a couple of trades, he turned this lottery-bound team into a playoff contender.
His first trade sent Forward Raef LaFrentz with his large contract, along with young forwards Darius Miles and Zach Randolph to the Memphis Grizzlies for Forward Mike Miller, veteran guard Eddie Jones and Sophomore Forward Hakim Warrick. He was shocked after the trade was accepted. This will provide lots of cap space next season, and make the team much stronger.
His second trade sent Sophomore guards Jarrett Jack and Martell Webster, with underused Point Guard Dan Dickau to Milwaukee for Guards Charlie Bell, Earl Boykins and Maurice Williams. The Bucks were looking to get rid of all three players and jumped at the offer to get three young players with unimaginable potential. All of the sudden, the Portland Trailblazers were a force to reckoned with. The last move made was the signing for veteran forward Rodney Rogers to a one year contract worth the league minimum, 400 thousand dollars. After not playing last season, Rogers was thought to have retired.
Fast forward to January. Despite a strong roster, the Blazers weren't winning. Though at the halfway point of the season, Portland was at a much better position than last year with a record of 18-23, owned Klein was not impressed. The team was not making money, and Klein impatiently threatened to fire Washburn. Suddenly, the Blazers started winning. Led by Rookie of the Year candidate Brandon Roy and improving point guard Maurice Williams, they won six straight to bring their record to 24-23. This momentum continued into the all-star break and their record stands at 29-25.
Maurice Williams and Jamaal Magloire were shocked to find out they were voted as all-star reserves. It was certainly by luck though as reigning MVP Steve Nash, and leading vote-getter Yao Ming were both injured. While Williams has played like an all-star, averaged 18 points and 8 assists per game, Magloire is only averaging 8 points and 8 rebounds per game. "While it is an honor to be an all-star for the second time, it doesn't really make sense. Marcus Camby, Brad Miller, even Chris Kaman have had better seasons than me", says Magloire on being picked. The biggest snub of the night however was Forward Dirk Nowitzki, who despite putting up worse numbers than last season is still more deserving than bizarre pick Al Harrington.
Even though the Blazers are #1 in their division (4th in conference) and jersey sales are through the roof, Klein still isn't satisfied. All Liam Washburn can do is hope that the Blazers will keep winning.

Looks good so far, though I can't imagine the bucks ever, and I mean ever, making that trade. But oh well, its your association. Keep it up! I really enjoyed the writing as well.

Thanks! It is weird, I was trying to just get Bell and Williams when their meters were full, and to balance the budget, I tried Boykins and the meter stayed full. Who needs trade override? All-Star recap coming soon. I think I may have kept Owner Firing on. I usually just turn it off but since my position is never in jeopardy, I kept it on. Even though I absolutely raped two teams (though Memphis didn't get ripped off too bad) and made Portland into a title contender, he still says he is on the verge of firing me.
Also, when will you play another game in your story? If necessary, sim some games, but the trade leaves me wanting more.

All-Stars Announced!
There were many surprises when the All-Stars were announced this year. Major snubs such as Dirk Nowitzki and Ray Allen were surprising, but the players who did make it were shocking.
The Starters weren't too surprising. Shaq, Jermaine O'Neal, LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Jason Kidd were voted onto the East squad. In injured leading vote getter Yao Ming's place was Suns center Amare Stoudamire. Joining him were Kevin Garnett, Shawn Marion, Kobe Bryant and Allen Iverson.
The East reserves were Tony Parker (acquired in trade with Spurs for Larry Hughes), Steve Francis, Paul Pierce, Mehmet Okur (acquired in trade with Jazz for Andre Miller), Eddy Curry, Vince Carter and Gilbert Arenas. The all-star game was nothing new to Manu Ginobili, Tim Duncan, Jamaal Magloire and Elton Brand but Maurice Williams, Carmelo Anthony, and Al Harrington all played for the first time. Al Harrington of the Warriors was a shocking selection, because he wasn't exactly putting up superstar numbers for the Warriors, who currently have a losing record. Also, enter Jamaal Magloire has been putting up lower numbers than in recent years, but was nonetheless selected for some reason. Dirk Nowitzki was the biggest snub, and MVP Steve Nash could not participate due to an injury.
West Recovers from poor first half to end the Eastern All-Stars' winning streak
In the first half, all signs pointed to the East winning their third straight All-Star game There was two minutes to go in the second quarter, and they were up twenty. LeBron James led all scorers with 14 points, but had just went to the bench. That is when it turned around. Blazers guard Maurice Williams hit his first two 3-pointers of the night, and Suns Forward Shawn Marion followed up with a pair of his own treys. Dwyane Wade ended the 12-2 run by flopping his way to a three-point play, but Shawn Marion beat the buzzer with an improbable long three to cut their deficit to ten at the half.
Shawn Marion was hot from three-point land, making 5 of 7 for the game, and his 33 points led the West to a 3-point lead going into the final period. The back court trio of Maurice Williams, Shawn Marion and Kobe Bryant helped build a double digit lead. Shock selection Al Harrington came on the floor with 2 minutes to go, and scored 7 points in 7 minutes, shooting 3-for-3 from the field. LeBron James never scored a point in the second quarter, and the West cruised to a 127-106 victory. Shawn Marion was All-Star MVP with 33 points, 5 rebounds, 3 steals, and a pair of assists on phenomenal 13-for-15 shooting.Maurice Williams played very well to represent the Blazers, with 26 points and 6 assists. Magloire got lots of playing time, but was a disappointment, scoring just 2 points, grabbing 2 rebounds and blocked 2 shots in 21 minutes.

That is an okay roster (unrealistic though) but it is really weak at the SF spot, and you should switch Aldridge and Duncan. Game vs. Utah will be up tomorrow. Will start prediction game at the start of next game week.

Sorry for the lack of updates. Been real busy with schoolwork. I lost my old recap for the Utah game, so I'll get one up tomorrow. I won't do an around the league until all the games in the week are done, but just so you know, Roy is leading the Race to ROY with 16, 4 and 4 I believe.

Blazers recover from rocky start, blow out Jazz
Coming off the exciting all-star game where Blazer Maurice Williams represented by scoring 26 points and dishing 6 assists, Portland started the game a little lazy. Missed shots, bad passes, if the Jazz weren't such a bad team, the deficit would have been 20. Instead, the Jazz led by 6 after the first quarter. The Trailblazers completely turned it around in the second quarter, outscoring the Jazz 29-16. That dominance continued into the second half and the Blazers came into the final period up 16. The forth quarter was an odd one. There was a scoring drought, with neither team being able to make a shot. Towards the end of the game, Portland's reserves stepped up, but Utah's did not as Portland won that quarter 17-4.
Utah Forward Andrei Kirilenko played well, scoring 20 points and grabbing 9 rebounds. All other Jazz players didn't get more than 10 in any category. Blazer guard Brandon Roy led all scorers with 21 points, and also dished 6 assists. All-Star Maurice Williams had a mild game with 12 points, 10 assists and 2 rebounds. LaMarcus Aldridge was Player of the Game with 18 points, 7 rebounds and 2 blocks on 9-for-13 shooting. Charlie Bell came off the bench to score a season-high 14 points. The final score was 94-65 Portland.

Dixon, Boykins included in Trade Deadline Rumors
With just two days until the February 22 Trade Deadline, there are two players in Portland who may be on their way out. 6'3" Shooting Guard Juan Dixon has gotten little to no playtime this season due to playing behind 3 other players. He is unhappy with his position, and the Blazers don't know what to do with him. Boykins is playing in every game, but with his lack of size, he rarely plays more than a quarter, as Brandon Roy sometimes plays the point. Boykins is only averaging 3 points a game. Other players that may be moved are Mike Miller, Rodney Rogers and Joel Pryzbilla.

Dixon, Boykins included in Trade Deadline Rumors
With just two days until the February 22 Trade Deadline, there are two players in Portland who may be on their way out. 6'3" Shooting Guard Juan Dixon has gotten little to no playtime this season due to playing behind 3 other players. He is unhappy with his position, and the Blazers don't know what to do with him. Boykins is playing in every game, but with his lack of size, he rarely plays more than a quarter, as Brandon Roy sometimes plays the point. Boykins is only averaging 3 points a game. Other players that may be moved are Mike Miller, Rodney Rogers and Joel Pryzbilla.

Despite a spirited fourth quarter effort, Lakers couldn't stop blowout
As the playoffs near, both the Blazers and the Lakers are fighting for position. The Lakers (25-29) are a couple games out of a second consecutive playoff appearance, and the Blazers (30-25) are tops in the Northwest Division and are defending their fourth seed. This game made it clear which team wanted a playoff spot more.
The Blazers got out to an explosive start. Roy lead all scorers with 12 points, but also pitched in 5 assists. Maurice Williams also played well with 8 and 7. Kobe Bryant wasn't as explosive as usual finishing the quarter with just 6 points. The Blazers continued their attack in the second period, and finished with a 48-31 lead. The home team looked determined to get back into the game in the second half, but their confidence was drained about 30 seconds in, when LaMarcus Aldridge came out of nowhere to block a 3-point attempt by Vladimir Radmanovic.
Facing a 73-49 deficit, the game was all but over going into the fourth quarter. For some reason, the Lakers did not give up. They played their starters in the final period, and Kobe Bryant scored 14 of his 24 total points against 6'3" reserve guard Charlie Bell. Despite outscoring the Blazer bench by a dozen in that final quarter, Portland's lead was simply too much. Final score was 93-79 Portland. Guard Brandon Roy won player of the game honors with 19 points, 11 assists and six rebounds out 75% shooting. Kobe led his team with 24 points, 5 assists and 3 blocks, and Forward Lamar Odom was decent with 11 points and 7 rebounds, but shot an embarrassing 2-for-7 from the charity stripe. In limited minutes, Portland guard Maurice Williams scored 12 points and dished 10 assists. Jamaal Magloire had a double-double with 10 points and 11 boards. LaMarcus Aldridge had a stellar game defensively, scoring only 13 points, but grabbing 5 rebounds, getting an absurd 5 steals, and blocked 3 shots. Other noteworthy performances were Charlie Bell's 12 points and Eddie Jones' horrible shooting night, scoring 4 points and shooting 20% from the field.

Hey, this association will be on a little hiatus for a while. I just got a couple of 360 games and the new semester has started. This is NOT over. I've already played the Memphis game even. Special thanks to Ty-Land, Yessie, Pursuer and trigger42. Since this is going away for a while, I'll include a short article.

But, with a week left in the month, the Blazers are 11-1 in the month of February, and are the winners of 6 straight. They have jumped into a comfortable lead in the weak Northwest division, and are 1.5 games out of the third seed in the West.

From the start of the game, the Blazers were much more determined. The hottest team in the league blew out Memphis, winning by 37! The game starter slow, with the Blazers holding a 4 point advantage after one period. But after that, they flew way ahead, and had a 48-28 advantage after the first half. Led by Brandon Roy's 30 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists, Portland outscored the Grizzlies 54-37 in the second half to win 102-65.
In their first games as Blazers, forward Paul Millsap, and guard Derek fisher had decent games off the bench. Fisher scored 12 points on 4-6 shooting. Millsap scored 6 points and grabbed 8 rebounds. Rookie Saer Sene led the Sonics at C to grab a ridiculous 18 rebounds Sunday night against the Trailblazers. In the first half, Portland's outstanding defense forced the Sonics to 34% shooting but they couldn't catch a break on the boards. They were outrebounded 46-34, and if not for that statistic, their victory would have been by a much larger margin. The first half was a closely fought defensive showdown, with Portland leading by 5.
Mid third quarter, a three-point play by Brandon Roy gave the Blazers their first double digit lead of the game, but three-pointers by Rashard Lewis and Luke Ridnour killed Portland's momentum. The lead seesawed until the end of the quarter, when the Blazers led by only 2 points. Portland cominated the 4th quarter, as Brandon Roy scored 13 of his total 25 points to help his team win their seventh straight, finishing the month of February with a record of 13-1. In the end, the Blazers won 96-85.

The night after the Blazers' victory over Seattle, Scott Klein called the Blazers GM, Liam Washburn. He proposed a deal. If the Blazers manage to win the Northwest division, Washburn can keep his job. If they don't... he will find someone else for the job. He admits that Portland's sudden surge has been impressive, but the team still isn't very profitable. The Blazers hold a 3-game advantage over the Nuggets (29-27).

Well your dynasty looks pretty much realistic, I've checked all of it... You're doing great, playoffs aren't far so you must step up to get a better seed there, good luck!

Blazers kill Bobcats in Fourth Quarter

This game was close for the first three quarters. Portland jumped out to a six-point lead after the first quarter, but the Bobcats stayed alive in the second and third quarters, trailing by just 3 going into the final period. Then, the Blazers once again got hot in the fourth to win 103-82.
Player of the Game: Guard Brandon Roy: 24 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 blocks, 1 steal, 2-3 3pt.

Unstoppable Blazers win eighth straight against slipping Sacramento

If the playoffs were to start today, the 4th seeded Blazers would face the 5th seed Kings. Portland continued to rise in the West with this victory, and would now have homecourt advantage against Sacramento. The Blazers came very close to ending their large winning streak, but a game winner with 5.3 to go by eventual Player of the Game Maurice Williams put them over the top. Mike Bibby, whose 32 points and 5 assists would have eanred him POG honors had his team won failed to hit a long jumper over Brandon Roy at the last second.
Roy, who currently is second only to teammate Maurice Williams in scoring had just 11 points, on tarrible 5-20 shooting. Jamaal Magloire had a huge game, scoring 14 points, grabbing 17 rebounds and blocking 4 shots. The 35-25 Blazers are now just half a game behind Dallas for the third seed, and a game behind the LA Clippers for the second. They put their streak on the line against 7th place San Antonio on the 6th of March.
