COLTS VS. BEARS

Postby Doobie on Mon Jan 22, 2007 1:25 pm

Well the next Super Bowl is coming. Colts and Bears, nice win by the Colts. Congrats to both teams, and I'm rooting for the Colts.

I hate the Colts. I hate players in the Patriots secondary that I've never even heard of playing 30+ snaps.

I cried tears of happiness when the Colts got the interception to finish it off. That was possibly the best sports moment of my life, I can't imagine what winning it would be like.

I was watching it at 3 in the morning in Frankfurt though, I'm sad I wasn't at the game.

Colts all the way, when 2 lineman can score in a single game shit must be clicking, plus there defense is really performing.

i have no favorites in this game since the steelers have been long gone. i think the bears win 28-17. of course, thats probably wrong. we dont know if manning will play well or shitty against chicago, and they put pressure on drew brees like they could on manning. however if the bears get a quick lead, doesnt mean colts are out since they were able to come back vs the pats.

Bears....

I have to think that the colts defense won't hold up against Jones and Benson.

Peyton will have a hard time get around the Bears defense...

So, I have to take Da Bears in this one.

Sort of like they wouldn't hold up against the better running backs Larry Johnson or Jamaal Lewis?

Yeah, but Jones and Benson will wear the defense down more. They are two different people...not just one runningback.

The Ravens gave up only field goals....

I have to hope the speed from the ends can be a factor in the game....

Whenever the ends get tired swap one with Mark Anderson and the defense should be rolling.

It's more of a win-win situation for me.

I rather the Bears win because I am a bigger fan.

The Colts are my AFC team though...

I wanted this to happen last year....

Like Corey Dillon and Lawrence Maroney?

IndianaPacerMan wrote:The Ravens gave up only field goals....

Who cares how they got their points. Peyton made the plays when they needed to be made and got the offense into scoring situations 5 times. Only 5 other teams scored as many points as the Colts did in that game all season. The Ravens held their opponent to less then 15 points 11 times this year.

There is no question the Colts should win this game. The Bears really are the poor man's Ravens. Both teams play defense the same way, but the Ravens do it better. Both offenses are not very strong, but both have good special teams and defenses that help them out and get them good field goal position. However, the Bears do not run as well as the Ravens, and Rex Grossman is not nearly as mobile in the pocket as McNair. If the Colts stack up against the run (which they will) and they stop it, then this game should be a blowout. The front 4 of the Colts is one of the best in the league at getting to the Quarterback, and Rex is one of the worst at reacting under pressure. We should force 3 or 4 Chicago turnovers. Combine that with Peyton having 2 weeks to prepare for a defense that has some key players injured? Forget about it.

The only problem is that when something seems so obvious and plain as day, often things just don't go the way of logic.

I want to see Ricky Manning Jr. pick off Peyton Manning for a TD. Bears need to blow them out to punish them for ruining the Pats' redemption concerning the '85 Super Bowl.

I don't like the pats...

I am glad they didn't win...

They beat Da Bears earlier in the season...

Plus, Brady already has enough rings...

I like Chicago's chances in this game. They have a team very similar to the New England one that gave the colts so many problems over the years. Explosive wide recievers, fantastic defense and clutch kicking. Sure Grossman isn't anything close to Tom Brady in 2003 or 2004, but the Benson/Jones duo is better then Antowain Smith, so thats almost a wash provided Rex doesn't do anything too crazy.

I just wonder if the Colts have indeed turned the corner. All of Mannings career it has been "when will he reach the super bowl/ beat the patriots". This could be a big letdown game becuase Chicago isn't a bad team at all.

I'm sick of the Grossman talk. It's apparent that he's good at hurling the ball downfield, but every time he runs anything resembling a West Coast offense (short passes), it's a nightmare. I say learn something from that all-Thomas-Jones drive against the Saints and pound it with him a few plays, then air it out on play-action. Indy stopped Larry Johnson by cramming everyone into the box, and the Chiefs were too foolish to pass on them. I don't think Lovie and Turner will make the same mistake. Wouldn't be surprised to see a few long catches from Berrian.

I suppose the good thing about Rex having so many failures this season is if he has one or two early turnovers, he won't be quite as rattled.

You bring up some good points about the run game for Chicago. The thing is with that all Jones drive is it was unexpected, it was in the second quarter and you could tell New Orleans had no idea it was comming. I don't think Chicago will come out and run the ball 100% of the time, but what I do think they should do is have some sets where Benson and Jones are in there at the same time. I don't think the Colts would be able to shut that down.

Berrian, Moose and Clark are all big play recievers. Kansas city had Gonzales and thats it. They can't play 8 in the box the entire game against the bears.

I think that it will be run maybe 50-75% in the first quarter and if they get that working they could throw the ball down field a couple times and try to catch the colts off guard.

The Colts have never been hurt by big plays before, in fact I'm pretty sure they allowed the lowest amount of passes over 20 yards in the league this year.
