Philly Rallies Past Hawks!

Down 18 early in the third quarter, the 76ers looked completly lost on offense and defense. Finally desperate, Coach Cheeks pulled all 5 startes and emptied the bench.
The result was simply shocking in its result. Kyle Korver and Shavlik Randolph combined 22 points as the 76ers went on a 30-13 run.
Steven Hunter lead the charge on defense picking up 2 charges and blocking 3 shots in the third.
The whole 4th quarter was nip and tuck, the sixers leaning on Igoudala, while the hawks Johnson carried his team. With 1:00 to go, Igoudala dunk over Marvin Williams (shown above) to take the lead for good. Josh Smiith missed a 18 foot jumper at the buzzer as the 76ers completed an improbable rally.

Iggy, Sixers Win, Lose Korver
76ers 107 Magic 102

Igoudala had a great all around game with 30 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assits as he powered the Sixers by the Magic.
Andre Miller chipped in with 19 points and 7 dimes.

The Sixers opened the game with horrible defense yet agin, quickly falling behind by 7.
Cheeks called a quick timeout and watched as his Sixers rallied to tie at the end of the first.

In the second quarter disaster struck as Kyle Korver was injured driving to the basket. The team trainer reported after the game that Korver will be out 9 days with a back strain.
The sixers fell behind again without thier trusty sharpshooter, trailing by 3 at the half.

During the third and fourth quarter the pace quickened as the magic began running the floor on every play.
Cheeks was quickly irritated that his team could not slow down the pace of the game in any way. Thankfully, Igoudala came to save the day.
Igyy hit a jumper with 32 seconds remaining to put philly up 104-102. It became the deciding basket when Reddick missed a layup on the other end.
Dwight Howard led the Magic with 22 points and 17 rebounds.

Gedas Yeah, I hope Iggy can keep it up and carry my team.

pacers4eva Good question. I have no idea where Joe Smith went :/ But Smith is a PF not a SG so not such a huge loss for me.

76ers get Allan Ray, Scalabrine

According to the associated press, the 76ers have traded away Steven Hunter and Bobby Jones to the Boston Celtics. In return, the 76ers recieved Rookie SG Allan Ray and Veteran Brain Scalabrine. While the Celtics were unavailable for comments, we were able to reach Coach Cheeks.

"We really liked the play of Steven Hunter, but we feel he didn't fit well with our offense. Allan Ray is a good young guard who should provide a spark off the bench."

Many league insiders see this move as a gamble for the 76ers. While they did accquire another young guard that could be a cornerstone of thier franchise, they weakened thier frontcourt even further. With Hunter coming of the bench they had a solid backup big man. Many don't see Randolph or Sc76alabrine being able to provide the play that Hunter did.

Wade Unguardable, Destroys 76ers
Maimi 112 Philly 96

By game's end coach Mo Cheeks was clearly frustrated with his team just 3 games into the season. Miami star Dwayne Wade exploded for 35 points despite being in foul trouble throughout the game. Jason Williams added in 28 points and 8 assists as the Heat cruised over the Sixers.

Maimi started the game red hot from the field making thier first 7 shots before Philly could even score. The Defense was absolutely awful for the Sixers as 5 of those 7 shots came on wide open attempts. The lone bright spot in the first came when newly accquired Allan Ray scored 8 points off the bench.

Things continued in a downwards spiral for the Sixers, ending the first half down 56-47. In the third quarter the 76ers finally showed a little spark of life. Led by Chris Webber's 9 points, the sixers went on a 15-4 run to tie the game at 62. Wade then re-entered the game and Maimi retook control.

Only up 6 after three, the Heat continued to score at will as the 76ers looked lost on defense. Maimi surged to a double digit lead at the start of the 4th and never looked back. With 3 minutes to go, Coach Cheeks conceeded the loss and emptied the bench. Andre Igoudala led the Sixers with 30 points, while Dalembert had a double-double with 15 points and 17 boards.

"Every player on this team should be ashamed of themselves after thier performance. The defense was absolutely horrific in everyway. The only player that came close to playing any D at all was Allan Ray. If people don't start playing hard, people might lose thier starting jobs" - Coach Cheeks

Webber, Ray, Secure Tough Road Win
76ers 91 Pacers 87

Two nights after showing a severe lack of defensive effort, the 76ers came out with a chip on thier shoulder versus Indiana. Philly played tough, physical defense all night long as they outlasted the Pacers, holding them to a paltry 38% from the field. Coach Cheeks said his team showed a lot of character after suffering a huge loss at home. "They played great D tonight and hopefully will carry this effort throughout the entire season."

The biggest lead of the game for either team was just six points, as neither team could manage to pull away from the other. With 5 mintues to go in the 4th quarter, Indiana led by 6 after Jermane O'Neal hit a layup plus a free throw. The Sixers quickly rallied to tie the game with 1:45 to go.

Chris Webber then showed flashes of his old brilliance on both ends of the floor. He first forced Jamal Tinsley to adjust his shot in mid-air forcing a key missed layup. Igoudala grabbed the board and walked up court intending to take the next shot himself. A double team forced Iggy to dish the ball into the post to Webber. Webber spun quickly and went up drawing a foul and laying the ball in. The layup and made freethrow gave them the lead for good. Rookie Allan Ray iced the game with a free throw as they held on 91-87.

Igoudala continued his strong start to the season scoring 25 points and grabing 14 boards, while Andre Miller chipped in 19.
O'Neal led the Pacers with 22 and 17 boards, while Tinsley scored 27.

Dalembert, Ray, Overpower Raptors
Philly 94 Raptors 87

The 76ers continued thier winning ways last night with a solid victory over the stuggling Raptors (1-4). Dalmebert domintaed the paint all night continuing his shockly spectacular play, grabbing 17 boards and dropping in 19 points. Ray sparked the 76ers off the bench 13 points despite struggling from the field. Bosh scored 25 in the losing cause as teamate T.J. Ford added in 19.

After the game, Coach Mo Cheeks announced that Kyle Korver is finally healthy enough to play again. He stressed that Korver is still not 100% and will recieve only minimal playing tme to start with. Additionally, after another pedestrian performance by SG Willie Green, he has lost his starting job. Allan Ray will become the starting SG, who will hold the job until Kyle Korver is fully healthy.

Iverson Wins In Return to Philly
Denver 92 Philly 84

Just two minutes in to the first quarter, Coach Cheeks knew his team was in deep trouble. Philly started by scoring the first basket of the game and things went downhill from there. Led by Allen Iverson, Denver went on a 10-0 run and never looked back. Denver led 24-16 after the first as Philly shot a dismal 30% from the field. Martin and Anthony combined for 13 points.

The second and third quarter looked no better for Philly as there shooting woes continued, shooting no better than 35% in either quarter. No Denver player showed any real domination, rather a combo of Martin, Anthony, and Iverson dominated the 76ers.

Down 71-50 after three, Philly finally looked like the team that started 4-1. Led by a spree of offensive rebounds by Webber and Dalembert, the 76ers came roaring back to cut the lead to 79-71. That would be as close as they would get as two big baskets by Julious Hodge and Iverson stemmed the comeback bid. Iverson led the Nuggets with 22 points, 7 boards, 10 assists and three steals in a great all-around game. Teamate Kenyon Martin added in 22 points and 14 rebounds. Igoudala led Philly with 22 points and 9 boards, while Dalemebert had another double double with 14 and 17.

Lewis, Allen, Bury Sixers In Shootout
Seattle 125 Philly 118

The first quarter started out well for the Sixers as Andre Miller matched Ray Allen bucket for bucket to keep his team in the game. Unfortunately, Andre Igoudala struggled from the field as Rashard Lewis shut him down. At the end of the first, Seatle led 32-27.

A big second quarter on the glass spured on the Sixers to overcome the small defict and actually take a 5 point lead going into half time. Philly ripped down a stunning 9 offensive rebounds in the second quarter, which allowed Kyle Krover and Miller to secure the lead for the Sixers.

The second quarter was the end of all the good thind for Philly. Ray Allen dominated the second half scoring 31 of his 51 points. His Teamate Rashard Lewis dumped in 37 points as they ran thier way all over Philly. The Sixers got glimmer of hope when Andre Miller hit a huge 3 pointer to cut the lead to 119-116 with 50 seconds to go. Alas, it went for naught as Ray Allan made both free throws and Korver missed a three on thier end. Andre Miller led the Sixers with 34 points and 9 assists, while Allan Ray scored 24 off the bench.

Korver - 17 3pt attempts in 24 minutes. Almost like me. :D
I play 6 minutes a quarter and when i have a big lead,
I usually attempt about 8 times... Shavlik Randolph - 10
offensive rebounds in 16 minutes.. Just Wow..
Tough loss, but better luck in the future.

Allan Ray, Sixers, Stun Suns
Sixers 112 Suns 102

After suffering back-to-back losses, the 76ers bounced back in a huge way versus the Suns. The first quarter started buisness as usaul for the 76ers as they fell behind right away as reigning MVP Steve Nash led the Suns. Allan Ray led the 76ers as they struggled to keep pace with the Suns. The second quarter was virtually identical to the first and at the half, the Suns led 58-55, led by Steve Nash's 22 points.

The second quarter featured a surprise move by Sixers Coach Mo Cheeks. Despite only trailing the Suns by 3 points at the half, he decided to start Rodney Carney at PF for the 3rd quarter. The result was astonishing as the 76ers went on a 18-2 run. The smaller line up allowed the Sixers to run the floor and actually match up solidly with the quicker Suns. The final result was a huge statement game over the powerhouse Suns. Nash led the Suns with 38 points, 6 boards and 10 assists, while teamate Amare Stoudamire had 22 and 7. Allan Ray led the Sixers with 29 points off the bench while Andre Igoudala added 19, 6, and 7.

Dalembert injured, Sixers Sign Lee Nailon

Hours before the Sixers were to take the floor versus the LA Clippers, Coach Cheeks announced they had signed PF Lee Nailon to a 1yr deal for the league minumum. This signing comes on the heels of an arm injury to center Samuel Dalembert. Although Dalembert will only be out for a couple of days, Cheeks felt his team needed some additional depth at C/PF.

Maggette, Clippers, Bury Sixers
Clippers 111 Sixers 95

The Sixers started off decently considering the were miising thier leading rebounder and defensive enforcer, Samuel Dalembert. It was a see-saw battle throughout the first half, highlighted by 8 offensive rebounds in the first quarter by the Sixers. Cuttino Mobley carrried the first half load for the Clippers pouring in 18 points. At the half, the Sixers lead 50-47, and the home LA crowd was in stunned silence.

The Sixers were hopeful coming out of the locker as Coach Cheeks once again was going small in a mimic of thier last win. Then this happened...
Image

Small Forward Rodney Carney suffered an arm injury driving to the basket, and things deteriorated rather quickly. No Sixer player seemed able to buy a basket and finished the quarter shooting an appaling 5-19 from the floor, and trailing 80-65. Despite keeping pace point for point in the 4th, there was no way Philly could surmount the deficit. Andre Igoudala led the Sixers with 20 points and 12 rebounds while Allan Ray scored 17 off the bench. Maggete led the Clippers with 36, 20 of those coming in the second half.

nice dynasty thus far. I'm about to toss myself into the same challenge with the AI- and C-Webb-less 76ers. Good luck with your dynasty. It will be interesting to see the different paths we both take with the same teams.

Hot Shooting Propels Sixers
Sixers 114 Pistons 101

Finally back at home, the 76ers came out like a team possesed versus the visiting Detriot Pistons. During the first quarter niether team seemed able to miss any shots, the Sixers led by Allan Ray while the Pistons were led by Rip Hamilton. The biggest impact may not have been the hot shooting by the Sixers, but the fact Chauncy Billups picked up 2 quick fouls along with Andre Miller. At the end of one, the Sixers led by 3, 32-29 who would never surrender that lead.

The second quarter featured more balanced attacking by the Sixers as the ran up and down the floor with ease. The lead quickly balooned to 17 points before late back-to-back baskets cut the lead to 66-53 at the half. Billups continued to be plauged wit foul trouble, leaving the Pistons without thier best player and team leader. Back from injury, Samuel Dalembert enforced his will in the paint blocking a couple of shots and altering others.

Leading by 18 in the fourth quarter, Coach Cheeks emptied his bench, which turned out not to be the greatest decsion. Hamilton got hot from the field and poor shooting by the scrubs, quickly saw the lead sink to single digits. Quickly getting is starters back in the game, Philly secured the win. Kyle Korver buried a long 3 pointer, Webber threw down a viscous dunk, while Kevin Ollie scored a layup. Andre Igoudala led the Sixers with 18 points 7 boards, while Allan Ray continued his huge play off the bench scoring 20 points. Rip Hamilton led the Pistons with 30 points.
