Help with graphic card..

Can someone tell me what are the best graphic cards in the market?

I'm planning to buy a new computer becasue mine is old and all the new cards are AGP type and my computer doesn't support it..

I'm looking for a very stong graphic card that could run the latest games on at least 1600x1200 resolution and anti-aliasing 8x.

Well most of the newer cards (that are good) are PCI 16x not AGP. If you are planning on getting windows vista then you will want to get a Direct X 10 card. (those are just starting to come out)

yeah you probably have the old PCI, not PCI-E.... it's more about personal preference and budget. I mean in some price ranges, ATI is better, in others, Nvidia is better. But I'm pretty sure the "other" brand is not going to be better than either ATI or Nvidia.

Edit: I feel like a dummy my computer supports AGP, but not PCIe like the new cards..

Well I'd recommend a Nvidia dx10 card. Ati still rocks with the 1950 series but nvidia seems to be better when it comes to high-end cards. But I'd wait 1-2 month after the Windows Vista release if you're not in a hurry.

I need a new graphics card. haha, mine isn't reeaally that bad, most of the time it does the job, like i can play the nba lives on full settings, but i have a nvidia 5500. The newer games only allow me to play 1700x520 or whatever that one is. But the rest of my computer is fairly good.

Actually, there's a bunch of cards from different manufacturers, such as EVGA, MSI or Gigabyte, but they're still based on ATI and Nvidia chipsets. For example, EVGA did a bunch a very good cards based on the Nvidia 6800 and 7800 technology.
I have an ATI X850XT, but technically it's been developed by a manufacturer called VisionTek, which named the card Xstasy2, but it's still an ATI chipset in the first place.
Right now, I believe that the only card released card that supports directX10 is the Nvidia 8800. I'd suggest that you wait a couple of months maybe, because a bunch of new cards are gonna be launched and the prices will go down quickly.

You need to check the specifications in your manual and see if your mainboard has available slots for a new video card, and if it's AGP or PCI-E. I'm pretty sure you have at least one available...

Well, you got a PCI express slot, which is the fastest, so I'm pretty sure a Nvidia 6600GT or even 6800 Ultra would be a good choice, they must be pretty cheap now.

On your computer specs it sais PCI-E x1 not PCI-E x16, like the card you linked.

This is what your Dimension E310 motherboard looks like. At the bottom right there are two cards, those are normal PCI cards. Look right above those cards and you will see a miniature black slot. That is the PCI-E x1 slot. PCI-E x16 cards won't fit because they use a slot that is alot bigger.

I suggest just going for a moderately priced normal PCI card. Open up your computer case and see if you have a free PCI slot. If you don't, you may have to look around for a video card that fits in a "PCI-E x1" slot.
