I had trouble understanding both the lyrics and the synopsis. I think I need to take more English lessons. Or take introductory courses to ebonics.

Have you guys heard the song Mountains by Lonestar? It's a pretty good song.

I can't listen to this without first the lyrics and synopsis, like Hip-Hop is Dead. :P

Fri Dec 22, 2006 9:45 am

You guys don't know good music.

Fri Dec 22, 2006 9:46 am

It's all opinion, not fact. I don't care for formulated twangy country-pop.

Fri Dec 22, 2006 12:37 pm

"Who Killed It" is well-written, has nice production, etc., I'm just not a fan of the accent. It obviously furthers the concept, but I see it as sacrificing quality to go further into the metaphor. But, without the accent, it may simply too confusing to understand, so maybe lose the accent and get some film noir samples going instead? That would work best for me.

But the song is still good enough, and the rest of the album is fantastic. Great stuff.

Gotta agree with the poster formerly known as Donatello (sorry cant keep up with the 18 name changes he'd had today)...overproduced twangy pop country is not my cup of tea. It scares the hell out of me country is crossing over into "mainstream" now. It was too mainstreamed from the start....

Damn I despise teh merged music thread. It goes so "off-topic" you know what I mean? You try to carry on a conversation about Papoose, two posts later somene's talking about the White Stripes or something.

... but the White Stripes are music, and Papoose is debateably music too, so how is it off topic?

Fri Dec 22, 2006 2:32 pm

Sorta like how Kendrick Perkins is a basketball player and how Kobe Bryant is a basketball player but they're pretty much unrelated other than that. Why not just scrap "NBA Talk" and make an NBA thread? What was wrong with two seperate threads anyway?

It may be on-topic since it's the music thread, but I think he's just saying that the discussion goes every which way and conversations are really stilted.

That makes no sense though. The rap thread is/was and has always been a spam thread. The fact that it even had the honour of being merged with the unique spam free greatness of the various rock threads should be enough to keep you quiet.

To be honest, if anyone really wanted to talk about "Papoose" whatever that is, surely they'd just quote + reply to what was previously said about him. It's not rocket science. There's various team threads in NBA Talk with various different topics being discussed in them at any one time, they seem to manage fairly well.

Anyways feel free to complain to the moderators. Something tells me a 3 man protest won't really get anything done though.

If the primary focus of the forum were music, you'd have a little more ground to stand on -- but it's not. The thread is fine the way it is. Do your best to cope with it.

my favourite song on the Hip Hop is Dead album is Hope.

Eh, they know what I'm talking about, they just feel the necessity to be hard to get along with because they think it makes their cajones bigger.

But whatever, I'm wasting my time arguing with a couple of dictators. Soon enough this forum is just gonna be full of "the official _____ thread"s and it's going to be practically dead.

@ Jugs, you should hear some of the remixes people do with Hope since it's an acapella. It sounds pretty good on a lot of beats, like Kanye's Family Business and whatnot.

Nothing like crying foul when you don't get your way.

No, it just genuinely makes no sense. Talking about music in a music thread is off topic?

 have a fucking cry. I don't understand how I'm dictating since I have no power here, I'm just another poster like you. Maybe I should start acting like a whiny little bitch if I don't get my way aswell. Grow some balls you little girl, surely you have more important things to worry about than this.

Cajones size +2 (Y) The NBA breaks down into teams just as music breaks down into genres. We have official team threads, we had official genre threads.

I thought you had more important things to worry about which is why you "retired." Guess I was wrong about that too.

All people did was ask a couple times for the rap thread to be stickied since it was one of the biggest threads in the section yet it can't be stickied without being combined with another thread for whatever reason. Heck, the last rock thread we had made it to like 7 or 9 pages and then just died flat out. The Hip Hop thread was one of the biggest and still growing. Why go fix what wasn't broken?

Right, that has nothing to do with what you or Colin said. Colin's reply was refering to you thinking that talking about the White Stripes while you were trying to beat off over "Papoose" was off topic in a music thread.

The rap thread was basically just three people posting over and over again. I'm not going to sticky a thread for three people, it's stupid. The fact that you three posted in there alot is really irrelevant, but I figured merging it into a single music thread (this is a video game forum btw, it does not revolve around music) would encourage more than 3 people to post in it, and it has. If you really wanted to talk about rap that much you'd go to one of the other forums the three of you already post at.

I wrote:To all the rap fans, in my eyes it's about time to start some type of poll for the album of the year. Maybe everyone posts his top 5, the 1st place gets 5 points, the 5th gets 1 and then we count the points to find out which rap album of 2006 people around here liked the most.

Now that Nas' album has been released I think it's time for me to post my top 5. Also, if anyone's still down with that idea post your top 5 aswell.

So here's mine:

1. Jedi Mind Tricks - Servants In Heaven, Kings In Hell

2. The Roots - Game Theory

3. Akir - Legacy

4. Ghostface Killah - Fishscale

5. AZ - The Format

Sun Dec 24, 2006 11:31 pm

In my opinion 2006 was no where near 2005 when it comes to album releases. 2005 was really a dream for my taste of music, one sweet album after another. This year it is hard for me to even find 5 albums I did like.
But I do have a number one. Lupe Fiasco´s Food&Liquor is just an amazing album with everything you need. After that it is difficult to name any other LPs since my favorite artists did not release one this year, so I go with this top5:

1. Lupe Fiasco - Food&Liquor
2. John Legend - Once Again
3. Jurassic 5 - Feedback
4. Outkast - Idlewild
5. Jay-Z - Kingdome Come

Pretty much of a Hip Hop list, but I dont care. I hope 2007 will be a bit better at least Common should drop one and Ill be satisfied.

Tue Dec 26, 2006 7:45 am

I thought 2006 was the best year for hip-hop in a while. 2005 was pretty sub-par by my standards. There's a good 4-5 albums from this year I think are better than anything from 05.

LOL your actually serious? When I first started this Rap thread, the Rock thread already had 15 pages...a year later, the rap thread was still going strong and had the biggest thread on the forum. The rock thread was dead...no one cared about it.

Now you've simply made one topic for music, which as Black Death said goes very off topic. Who the fuck wants to read about White Stripes and other shit like that, thats why I created a rap topic all them years ago. So it could be a place on NLSC for rap fans to discuss the music WE like not other music.
3 posters? hell no, we had at least 10 constantly in the thread.

You don't do sarcasm in the hood?

Who the fuck wants to read about White Stripes and other shit like that

Well obviously someone does if it's being discussed enough to take talk of (Insert ridiculous rapper name here) off topic and cause you lot to start crying. You obviously do care about the state of the rap thread since you didn't even get involved in this discussion until 9 days after it ended ffs.

hell no, we had at least 10 constantly in the thread.

Bullshit, absolute bullshit.

What the you even complaining about? That sounds like every other thread in NLSC existance anyway.

For a guy with such a hardcore name, you sure are a baby. :boohoo:
