Happy birthday Kobe!

Image
Kobe Bryant and his wife Vanessa...

"...Kobe Bryant was born on August 23, 1978 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. His parents, Joe and Pam, already had two girls, Sharia and Shaya. Kobe was their third and final child. Life in the Bryant family was not your normal everyday existence. Joe, a playground legend from Philly’s John Bartram High School, was in the midst of a scattershot pro basketball career that took him to three different countries. After three stellar years at La Salle University, he was drafted in 1975 by the Golden State Warriors..."

"... Kobe grew up eating, sleeping and breathing basketball. A yearafter he was born, Joe was traded to the San Diego Clippers. The Bryants loved being in sunny Southern California. Their neighbors were friendly, and rain rarely forced the kids inside. Kobe developed an intense love of hoops on the West Coast. By his third birthday he was already telling people be would be an NBA star.

In the summer of 1982 the Bryants packed their bags for Houston, after Joe was dealt to the Rockets. Kobe, who was gaining a better understanding of what his dad did for a living, started following the NBA seriously. His favorite player was Magic Johnson, a point guard in a power forward’s body—not unlike Kobe’s dad. The youngster responded to Magic’s flashy style and winning ways, and adopted the Lakers as his favorite pro team..."

"...Kobe got a chance to hone his skills each summer, when the Bryants flew back to visit family and friends in Philadelphia. From the age of 10, he competed in the city’s high-powered Sonny Hill League and held his own against boys his age and older. His father and Pam’s brother, John, counseled him on areas of his game that needed improving..."

Annual Los Angeles Lakers Holiday Party for Children

Image
Lamar Odom plays Santa and gives one young guest a Shell Shocker toy

On December 16th, the entire Lakers team and Laker Girls partnered with The Mattel Toy Store and LA Scores to host the Annual Los Angeles Lakers Holiday Party for Children. Continuing their “A Season of Giving” campaign, the Lakers invited 70 children from LA Scores to spend an afternoon with the team to celebrate the holiday season.

The children were in awe when they walked into the party to find arcade games, foosball tables, skeeball, and Pop-A-Shot Basketball. After a special holiday lunch, the Los Angeles D-Fender players, T.J. Cummings, Devin Green, Jackie Manuel, and Chet Mason, stopped by to say hello and sign autographs. Then the entire Lakers team and Laker Girls arrived and it was time to play some games! Children had the opportunity to challenge their favorite Laker player in skeeball or pop a shot, take on the Laker Girls in foosball, and build crazy hats at the arts and crafts table. Each child received a Lakers t-shirt and disposable camera so they could get autographs and take pictures.

Just before a dessert of ice cream sundaes, the Lakers and D-Fenders handed out goodie bags, foam fingers, pennants, hats, and Mattel toys. At the end of the party the children left with their bellies and their hands full!

The Lakers would like to thank the representatives from LA Scores and Mattel for making this holiday party possible.[/img]

Lakers help unveil new court for NBA Cares "Es Tu Cancha (It’s Your Court)" community initiative

Image
Andrew plays D during clinic

On September 25th, Andrew Bynum and Craig Hodges stopped by the Nueva Maravilla Housing Development in Los Angeles to help unveil the community’s newly renovated basketball court and host a clinic for neighborhood children. The refurbishment is a part of the NBA Cares “Es Tu Cancha (It’s Your Court)” community initiative to renovate courts in Latino neighborhoods across the country. Using basketball as a vehicle to promote physical activity, the program also targets the growing incidence of childhood obesity, which disproportionately affects Latino youth in comparison to non-Hispanic adolescents.

"It is extremely important for us to generate awareness about the prevalence of childhood obesity among Hispanic/Latino children in the United States,” said Andrew Bynum of the L.A. Lakers. “Considering the Hispanic demographic in L.A., this was a key market for the launch of ‘Es tu Cancha (It’s Your Court),’ an initiative we hope will encourage kids to get up and get moving in a local environment that is both safe and fun."

Along with the Laker Girls and Fernando Gonzalez, play-by-play broadcaster for Spanish radio, Andrew and Craig participated in the dedication ceremony and ribbon cutting for the new court. Afterwards, the children of Nueva Maravilla Housing Development learned basic passing and shooting drills from Andrew and Craig while the Laker Girls took pictures and signed autographs for members of the community. The activities concluded with the children having an opportunity to play 3-on-2 with the NBA stars.

Los Angeles Lakers win his first game in regular season versus Phoenix Suns. That was first game for Kobe, after knee operation. He scores 26 points, grabbed 6 balls and added 12 assists. Very good match played Lamar odom with 22 points and Smush Parker, who was outstanding from 3 point range (4-5 ; 18pts, 2reb, 3ast).
The most important element in the game was defens and rebounds (37:26 for LAL). Lakers in all 4th quaters played very good basketball (in defens and in offens). Bynum didn't scare Amare Stoudemire and 2 times, dunked over him.
Lakers can stopped Suns, but can't stop Steve Nash, who scored 33 points and added 16 assists!
The most beautiful play of the games was Kobe's dunk on Steve Nash... He did it again...

Jordan™ Player of the game

Kobe Bryant 26 points (13-18), 6 rebounds, 12 assists, 2 steals, 1 block

Los Angeles Lakers played back 2 back, after game with Suns. But They didn't look tired... Kobe was "ON FIRE" from 3 point range (5-6) and he collected 33 points and 11 assists. Another great game played Smush Parker, who scored 16 points and added 5 assists.
Lakers played very good in offens, but worst in defens. They can't nothing to do when Baron Davis or Jason Richardson were drive to the basket. They collected 57 points! But they can't stopped Lakers, who win 2 game in a row. The most important was 4th quater. Lakers win it 33-21. They played great in last 3 minutes. The key was "3" by Kobe Bryant (2:21), and rebounds by Lamar Odom (14 in a game).
Lakers in all game grabbed 44 balls and added 30 assists. Warriors grabbed only 34 rebounds and added 15 assists.
Lakers next game will play against Seattle SuperSonics in Staples Center.

Los Angeles Lakers played terrible in defens. Ray Allen and Rashed Lewis do what they want to do. Layup, easy shoots, dunks... Lakers players only watch for this show by SSS. They can only nice play in offens, but the key to win in matches, is defens... In Lakers Kobe Bryant was again the best player with 27 points, 10 rebounds and 8 assists. Odom scored 27 points too, and Smush Parker added 15... But that wasn't enough for 32 Rashed Lewis's and 42 Ray Allen's. Allen was just "ON FIRE". Sonics won this match, because they were better in offens than Lakers. Seattle has got great shooters and they used it. Next game will be play in Seattle... Los Angeles want to win this match...

Jordan™ Player of the game

Ray Allen 42 points (17-26, 1-1, 7-7), 5 rebounds, 3 assists

Only start of 1st quater wasnt good, but from 4 minute 1st quater, Lakers were "ON FIRE". GREAT defens and offens were the keys to win. Kobe Bryant was amazing. He scored 43 points, grabbed 10 balls and added 10 assists! Lamar Odom added 17 points and 14 rebounds, and Smush 14 points. Vujacic scored 7 points from the bench. Sonics cant nothing do... Lamar Odom show what he got... He scored 23 points, grabbed 14 rebounds and added 5 assists. He 2 times blocked Ricky Davis. Kobe Bryant this time played only in defens, but Roy Foye sometimes was "ON FIRE", and Kobe had nothing to do. That was great match for Luke Walton and Vladimir Radmanovic (13 points ; 14 points). Good job by Shamond Williams who scored 9 points from bench.
Los Angeles Lakers started play good game in end of 3rd quater and 4th quater and they outstanding Wolves. Shammond and Odom were the best in the end of the 4th quater. Good in defens and great in offens! Odom was unstopped. He was better in rebounds than Kevin Garnett! He was the Jordan Player of the Game, first time in season.
Next gamea Lakers will play against Portland Trail Blazers, in Portland.
