Just thought I would make this my first post:

Mavs send: Van Exel/Avery Johnson/Eschmeyer/Popeye

Golden State sends: Jamison/Fortson/Mills/Welsch

Antawn Jamison and Nick Van Exel are the kingpins in an eight-player trade between the Mavericks and the Golden State Warriors that was agreed on Friday night, the Star-Telegram learned.

The trade can't be approved until Monday when the NBA offices open.

In addition to Jamison, the Warriors' leading scorer the last season, the Mavericks also receive power forward Danny Fortson, small forward Chris Mills and guard Jiri Welsch. Along with Van Exel, the Mavs send Avery Johnson, Evan Eschmeyer and Popeye Jones to Golden State.

Jamison, who averaged 22.2 points and 7.0 rebounds per game last season, his fifth in the NBA, and immediately becomes the Mavs' starting small forward. Jamison, 27, will be joined in the starting lineup by Steve Nash, Dirk Nowitzki, Michael Finley and Raef LaFrentz.

Fortson adds toughness and rebounding off the bench. Despite playing only 17 games last season because of injury, the six-year veteran has averaged at least 11 rebounds three times in his career.

Welsch, a 6-7 guard, was a first-round draft pick last year and played in only 37 games as a rookie. Mills played in only 21 games last season, his 10th in the league.

Van Exel was the Mavs' leading scorer off the bench and second-leading scorer in the playoffs last season at 19.5 points per game. He spent the last 1 ½ seasons of a 10-year career with Dallas. The Warriors are his fourth team.

Johnson, who spent the 1993-94 season with Golden State, Eschmeyer and Jones were each role players. Jones, a free agent, wasn't expected back this season.

WOW, great deal for both teams, but GS seems to have lost 2 of their best players, with Arenas & jamison gone.......

Dallas will have a very versatile roster........

wow wut a surprising trade...i thought Del Harris would try to keep Van Exel in Dallas...oh well...this is a pretty good trade by Mavs..but GS fill needs at PG and they get a red hot shooter in Van Exel...however they lose inside offense in Jamision....great trade by Mavs...just wut they need...another inside presence...and Fortson to help them rebound...
the lineup will probably look like this

PG-Nash...

Wow, great trade for the Mavs. They get anther good scorer as in Jamison, and excellent rebounder in Fortson.
Warriors got raped I think. Yes they picked up NVE, but who else??Avery Johnson, Evan Eschmeyer and Popeye Jones are all bench players. They gave up a all-star player in Jamison, a excellent rebounder and 2 others for 1 good player and 3 bench players. I guess GS is heading back to a top 5 pick selection in next year's draft.

First when i saw it,i ment what the fuc* are the warriors doing and then i realized that Mike dunleavy will be a starter next season....Jamison can finally play for a playoff team and Mavs can go far this season cause they got their sf who they needed and some bench power :lol:

but steve nash for jamison would be better to gs but that wont happen....warriors most oldest "old" player is Bob Sura 30 years old

Popeye Jones isnt a bad player. Remember 2 seasons ago he was the 4th best player on the wiz behind mj, rip and courtney alexander. he rebounds well and is a decent shooter when left open, which he usually is becuase teams dont pay attention to him. Nick the Quick is also a nice addition... but fuck, they gave up Jamison who was developing into one of the better players in the league. Martin said they made the trade to open up a spot for Mike Dunleavy.. but geeze couldnt they have kept one of them( fortson or jamison)?. Also Nick Van exel... will he share the ball with jason richardson and the rest of the warriors?
Dallas got the better of the trade i think ..

yes, mavs got the better of the trade but i suspect van exel gets an all-star selection, why? because he was getting 30 off the bench on the mavs(sometimes) and i think now that he will start and he most likely will like it in golden state, i think he will play well and score at least 20 ppg plus 5 apg. my prediction.

Theres a good possibility he will get more than 20 ppg, considering like you said he was getting 30 pts off the bench a few times for dallas, and considering who was on the floor for the mavs he was like the 4th option at times, so imagine him as the first option and more minutes?

I know i just didn't want to set it too high but ya considering that(of who is on the floor) ok fine i predict 24.5 ppg, and still 5 apg.

They just wouldnt be the Warriors if they didn't give up the best players they had!!

They were a promising young team... now they have Jason Richardson, Troy Murphy and Dunleavy left from a group which included Arenas, Jamison and Fortson. That's a bit disappointing.
Mark Cuban must have a lot of dirt on some of the other GMs around the league...

Dallas is set to get the better end of that deal, but Van Exel is still capable of being a starting point guard so it's not a terrible trade for Golden State to make. The Mavs have weakened their bench a little, but they have one of the strongest starting fives in the league. The Warriors have found a replacement for Arenas, but hopefully J-Rich is ready to be the primary scorer.

this is a horrible trade for the warriors

they won't make the playoffs for another 10 years at the least...they've completely killed their future. Ain't no freeagents going to go there knowing how they treat players. They either dannyfortson/marc jackon you, or they don't pay you and let you go/trade you

Eric Muss must be seeing something special in Dunleavy, or else I'll head over to Oakland and kick his ass... Shit.

Dallas got stronger and better on the bench, too. Scary how the Lakers, Sacramento, Dallas and Minnesota and the Spurs have just gotten better this season...

Warriors will be the worst team on the Western conference behind the Jazz... J-Rich will bolt...

But i cant see how Golden state has improved on paper, plus they got older so the chances of developing arent as good. Nick Van exel is the key here. If he shares the ball and allows room for richardson to continue to develop and Dunleavy to grow, then maybe this trade is for the best for golden state.
As for Dallas' bench being weaker, i disagree. AJ, Popeye Jones and Evan Eshmyer harder ever contributed to games. They maybe a bit thin at the pg position, but they did pick up what they needed in terms of fortson which is a strong rebounder, and chris mills isnt a bad throw in either.

Last year he willingly traded scoring almost 20ppg and beight the teams go-to-guy but with no win for comming off the bench but with wins. He demanded begh traded from Denver to Mavs, now he is entering a team that has lost 2 of it best players!!! I think he will ask again to be traded to a playoff team!!! no way he can stay there!

I don't think Van Exel asked to be traded. He's just the best player that the Mavericks are willing to trade. Most players don't have a say in where or when they are traded.

What a summer for the Warriors, after coming off a 38-44 season and a 17-game improvement from season before, they manage to lose their starting Point Guard Gilbert Arenas to free agency and trade away their best player in Forward Antawn Jamison. As for the Mavs, they continue to get deeper and deeper.

Mavericks Projected Starting Line-Up:

C- Raef LaFrentz
PF- Dirk Nowitzki
SF- Antawn Jamison
SG- Michael Finley
PG- Steve Nash

I can't even imagine how high the Mavs' payroll is now, I'll tell you one thing, Mark Cuban has some deep pockets.

Bad deal for Warriors. What were they thinking? Jamison is on his way to being an all-star and is still young. He can put up numbers. They are exchanging the new blood for old veterans. It's obvious Dallas gets the upper hand in this trade. Yeah sure, Van Exel is still a scorer for his age, but you need a front court to be a contender in the league and the Warriors just gave that up. He's only got at least 3 more good seasons and that's about it. Avery Johnson is gonna retire real soon; Popeye Jones don't compare to Fortson; Welsch has potential but just needs time to develope; and Eschmeyer is a bust, while Mills can still at least do something even though he's up there in the age column. I really hope this deal doesn't go through because Warriors are on their way up. The last thing they need is a setback.
