Your Basketball Performances

Postby hammertime23 on Mon Dec 04, 2006 1:09 pm

This thread is for people that play on a basketball team to post their own personal performances. Tonight I had a game, and we lost 64-48. I scored a team high 13 but only went 3-7 from the free throw line  . I also had 8 rebounds, 4 assists, and 4 steals. I had one dazzling pass behind the back that gave me my first career moment when the entire crowd was "oooing and aaahhing." Lol yea but it was my first game and I think we can do better next time which is on Wednesday.

But what are your guys' personal performances on your basketball teams?

:shake: I'd bench you if I was the coach.

My career moment was scoring 48 points in a game, and I've been retired the last 3-4 years.

My career moment was a behind the back pass too. It was sorta different though... A lose ball (someone on our team stole the ball on defense, then made a bad pass for the fast break) flew down our end. It got to somewhere between half-court and the key where me and this other opponent guy were chasing down the lose ball in a fast break situation. We were going head on with eachother. I had a teammate on my left running with me on the break. I beat the guy to the ball, and all in one motion caught the ball whipped it around my back (even though it was a forward pass) with my right hand, span around the defender to avoid collision as i make a perfect bounce pass in front of my teammate who ran onto it and made the open layup. I was just like "woah... what did i just do".

Probably doesn't sound that great but the spotaneos-ness of it made it spectacular. Plus our division is low standard so you don't really ever seen anything like that. :P

Note: Blocking > scoring.

Love a good read of defense with up and under layups too.

Nick’s story reminds me of one of my games in sophomore year of high school; I have to say that would be one of the better games I’ve played both offensively and defensively.

Just minutes into that game one of our teammate threw the ball towards me. The ball is too high and goes over my head, so I turn around and leap out of bounds, bats the ball back in, taking out half of our bench. One of my teammates grabbed it and drained a shot just inside the 3-point line.

About couple minutes before the end of the first half, I was running with this lefty kid towards my own basket. One of my taller teammates caught up so I backed off and let my teammate take him, but he got past my taller teammate. I got back on marking him, and he drove towards the basket. Just outside the lane he puts up a little floater with his strong hand. I get up with the ball and stuffs it into the stands. Probably one of my best defensive plays.

As for offensive, I was driving along the 3-point line. This blonde kid on the other team had about half a foot on me came and guarded me. I went to my right, then crossed over to my left. I went up for the 3 and he literally mugged me. He grabbed me and as I was going down I pushed the ball up still, and since I was off balanced, the shot was a rainbow. It still managed to swish in and I just laid on the floor pumping my fist. Can’t remember if we won that game or not, if we did, it would have been even sweeter.

Was never much of a scorer… my high was probably 20 something points, though I mostly averaged under 10. I was mostly the kid who dove for lose-balls, boxed out and hit the boards, and person who was more willing to pass.

Basketball for me was pretty quiet on the last week of November.
Since our team is now finalized, all we are doing right now is waiting for the other teams around the city and wait till the third week of Dec. for our Invitational Classic Tournament.

a few months back i chased a guy on a fast break for the entire length of the court, and rejected him from behind on the layup. i took off a good half a metre behind him as he was putting the shot up. i still have no idea how i got to the ball in time

I perfectly get what you mean, I did the exact same move once and everybody was going crazy too. I've had some more crazy passes that would've made the NBA Top 10 if some NBA player pulled them off (eg. the Devin Harris pass where he was almost laying down and threw a fast-break pass over his head with two hands).
I've thrown down some nice dunks but that's only in practice.

Damn, you can read my mind can't you? I love playing defense. Actually my best performance ever was defense-related too. We were no. 3 in our competition and we played the no. 2 team and I had 6 blocks as a point-guard. I blocked the center twice and a forward where he was coming at me for the lay-up and I just 'caught' the ball.

But apart from some good moments individually, I've never reached anything with the teams I was on, it's probably because I've always been the best player on my teams (I'm not saying I'm that good).
So next year I'm gonna play on a team that's (hopefully) gonna play in a nationwide league and where I won't be the best player per se. Should be cool.

i once had a game winning shot.
it was sort of like damon jones series clinching shot against the wizards.
i was entered in the last 4 seconds and i got it to go.
it was the best feeling in the world.

I hit the game winner last week ... it was a three with no time left on the clock. We were down by 1, I inbounded, sprinted down the court, called for the ball to bail out the guy with the ball, and bam, it went in. It felt freaking sweet; I ran all the way back down the court with my hand still up in the air  . It doesn't sound like much, but for a guy who's only just starting to play guard and lead the team, it felt soooo good. And my teammates going crazy and laughing and jumping was cool too. Plus, everyone forgot we had given up a 10-point lead with about a minute left and had just barely won.

I know exactly what you mean, I was that player for the longest time but now my team sucks and I've improved over the summer so I have to take the scoring load. It's tough adapting to that type of player becuase everytime you get the ball your coach is yelling at you to shoot more and you dont know how to handle it. But I like it  .

When I was younger I played for a shit ass Catholic School so I averaged in the low 20's including 2 32 point games. But I got asked to go to another small school (public though) that was ranked #10 in the province. I was the third leading scorer on that team and led us in assists by a longshot (playing SG most of the season) (including one game where I got 25 Points going 11 for 13. Every Shot was a J except one. And 3 of my buckets were for 3.), but my D was just so shit from playing in the Catholic league that I got burned alot. Now I play on the JV team at the #2 ranked school in the province. And I'm playing amazing Defence coming off the bench. Our last game i had 2 blocks and 3 steals to go along with 8 points and 3 dimes. I play kind of a point forward position cause I'm one of our bigger guys, but I'm the best passer. We havew a legit shot at winning provincials so this year is gonna be sweet :)

I've been a good player the past three years (averaged almost 17 points and 11 rebounds and most important 5 steals/game with U14 team and almost 15 points and 4 rebounds/game with U16) but this summer almost all my muscle became fat (my weight has not changed much but I feel heavier and less fit now) and now I can't do most of the stuff I used to be able to do, especially defense, I used to be a very good defender but now, being and feeling more rigid and heavy, it is more difficult to slide my feet and keep the position.
Plus, we started FIP (regional championship) this year and stupid people continue to ask me for a residence certificate (because I was not born in Italy) even after I showed them my citizenship certificate, Italian documentation and Italian passport, and they keep saying that if I don't show them my residence certificate I won't be able to play. Problem is: I don't have a residence certificate because I don't need it, because I've been Italian since the day I was born (even my Argentinian ID stated that I had Italian citizenship.)
This year I played two games (friendlies) averaging 8 points and something like 5 rebounds with a 13-point high.
Yeah, I know I suck, please don't repeat it.
I have lost motivation to play and I can't seem to find it again, I think this will be my last year as a basketball player.

I got 13 assists yesterday but i had no points. I play point guard and our team run like the suns so i get a lot of alley oop and fast break passes in to my team mates. My best scoring affair was 30 points where i nailed 5 threes. I was being a bit of a hog tho, but i was hitting em so it counted for something. I love passing, assiting a great shot or dunk makes you feel good because its basically your points as you made it happen.

Once I delivered 32 assists in a game, well, we were playing against one of the worst teams and we had few players, we all had to play so much time! But my best moment in my basketball career (I left the team this year, the organization was a total mess) was a J-Will-like elbow pass in a fastbreak. It was so damn cool, but my coach didn't want me to play more in that game. Anyways it was cool because in the bench everyone was congratulating me and all that stuff, it was great!

I basically...retired from school basketball because of some tough subjects I'm having this year. But recently we had Sports Day and I played for around 15 minutes.

1/4 FG
1/4 FT
2 Rebounds
4 Blocks
2 Assists

Yeah, statline for a starting SG. And we lost by 2 to the Seniors.

Best basketball moment wasnt even playing organized ball. It was a summer where my cousin and some buddies would just go around looking to play at different courts and we went to this one and played a full court 5 on 5 against some guys who supposedly were the best around. They were trying to intimidate us by pushing us around and calling us bitches if we called foul then we started getting rough and pounding the ball on the inside every time down the court. Since I was the tallest on our team I got plenty of touches and I had so much fun just taking it straight to his chin. I elbowed that guy so many times on purpose. In the end we won the game and I basically bagged around 3/4 of our teams points. Even more refreshing considering they were making fun of me being Jamaican by saying "Shaba doesnt know how to play ball."

The icing on the cake really was when they tried to jump us after the game when we were leaving. We jumped in the car and dipped really quik but it just was so refreshing to know you pwned someone so bad they would go to that length.
