Civility, according to dictionary.com, refers to being courteous and polite.
polite and swearing dont mix.
fourm rule.
there are rules that must be followed in basketball. otherwise the game would be a mess.
rules are...
rules, and we need to play by them.
let us (the mods) do our job, and you can do yours (posting).
I won't sit here and tell you how to post so please don't tell me how to do my job.
Yes, the forum rules do address profanity, and we should all be civil about it, but did you happen to also read:
Profanity
Profanity is tolerated on the forum, but we ask that you try not use it in excess or unnecessarily. If you direct profanity towards other members, it will be treated as flaming and you will be asked to cease such behaviour.
yes, profanity is tolerated.
"tolerated", according to dictionary.com, refers to permission, and a lack of prohibiton.
tol·er·ate (tl-rt)
tr.v. tol·er·at·ed, tol·er·at·ing, tol·er·ates
1. To allow without prohibiting or opposing; permit.
2. To recognize and respect (the rights, beliefs, or practices of others).
3. To put up with; endure.
4. Medicine. To have tolerance for (a substance or pathogen).
so "polite and swearing" do mix, as swearing can be a way to express frustration without directing it towards someone else in the forum.
so once again, like you say, let's play by the rules...
and let the moderators decide when profanity goes over the line. thanks.
