Strong 4th Quarter gives Pacers win over the Houston Rockets

An excellent 4th quarter performance @ the Gund Center leaves Houston trailing behind

Starting 5:
C Jermaine O'Neal C Yao Ming
PF Al Harrington PF Juwan Howard
SF Danny Granger SF Tracy McGrady
SG Stephen Jackson SG Shane Battier
PG Darrel Armstrong PG Rafer Alston

Yao Ming and Jermaine O'Neal was the key-matchup in the first quarter, with good feeding into the chinese giant, Ming was able to grab 8 of his final 14pts in the 1st. Harrington and Indiana fought back, only to fall to former "And 1" streetball legend Rafer Alston, with good shooting and 2 steals to give the Rockets a first quarter lead.
1st Quarter: Rockets 19-15 Pacers

Jermaine O'Neal got his head in the game in the 2cnd and scored 6 points and boasted 2 assists, But Yao was simply unstoppable on the boards pulling down 6 in 5 minutes. Danny Granger managed to sneak through the back door for a few easy lay-ups until Juwan Howard rejected him twice, luckily for the travelling fans from Indiana, Stephen Jackson was there to pick up the pieces. Yao and Alston converted for Houston along with a few jumpers from Shane Battier and the Rockets had the lead at half-time despite a dissapointing first half performance from Tracy McGrady.
2cnd Quarter: Rockets 35-30 Pacers

Indiana were clearly given a stern talking by Coach Carlisle as his team went on the court and raced off to an 8-0 run. Stan VanGundy was shocked more than anything and called a time-out with his team playing poorly and letting the Pacers back into this game. Yao Ming came back out and lead the way to the restored lead, making his case even more apparent to become the best big-man in the NBA, grabbing 5 more points and 2 rebounds. Rafer Alston sunk a few but couldn't find his range like he had before hal-time and good shooting from Stephen Jackson gave the Pacers their first lead of the game.
3rd Quarter: Rockets 51-54 Pacers

Both teams offense were unconvincing at the start of the final quarter but Alston managed to control the tempo of the game for Houston until Al Harrington and Jermaine O'Neal portrayed their excellent defense that Rick Carlisle raves about- getting 5 rebounds and 10 points between them in 3 minutes. Darrel Armstrong got 3 steals and Stephen Jackson got one of his best ever shooting-nights as he shot 92% from the field and put Houston away on their own land.
Final Score: Rockets 65-78 Pacers

POG: Stephen Jackson - 16pts, 2 assists, 2 steals

Key Stats: Tracy McGrady played poorly getting just 4 points and shooting 7% from the field. Danny Granger was one of the biggest surprises as he got 10 rebounds to add to Jermaine O'Neal's 16 points. The last Quarter was vital for Indiana as they shot 84% in the 4th.

Cavs cruise past Indiana

On a night were Zyrdaunas Ilgauskas and Larry Hughes were on fire, the Indiana Pacers went down heavy @ Conseco Fieldhouse

Starting 5:
C Jermaine O'Neal C Zydraunas Ilgauskas
PF Al Harrington PF Drew Gooden
SF Danny Granger SF LeBron James
SG Stephen Jackson SG Larry Hughes
PG Darrrel Armstrong PG Eric Snow

The first quarter started off well for the home fans and the Indiana Pacers as they went on a 6-0 run with Granger and Harrington getting on the scoresheet, but as the half progressed, Hughes and Big Z found their feet and got some points of their own with LBJ23.
1st Quarter: Cavs 24-21 Pacers

Larry Hughes led the way @ the start of the 2cnd, putting away 12 in 2 minutes. Excellent defense from Ilgauskas and Gooden meant Indiana were getting nothing in the paint so it was lucky that Armstrong and Stephen Jackson were shooting well from outside the key - meaning Cleveland went into the half with a 1 point lead.
2cnd Quarter: Cavs 42-41 Pacers

The 3rd quarter was were everything fell apart for Rick Carlisle and his Pacers team, Cleveland raced off to a 9-0 run and Al Harrington was forced out of the game with 4 personals. Harrison came in but the strength of Gooden proved too much as he put a couple away. Ricky Davis entered for Jackson and jammed a few but Larry Hughes continued to get the seemingly impossibles and Big Z was a monster on the baords - getting 6 in the quarter.
3rd Quarter: Cavs 71-50 Pacers

It was hard to see a way back for Indy in this one, and so it was no surprise when Hughes continued to convert with a little help from LeBron James. Jermaine O'Neal went on a hot streak and blocked Ilgauskas and Hughes but Indiana could not capitalize on the mistakes with lazy offense. The Cavs left Conseco Fieldhouse, Indianapolis with a 8-4 record and Larry Hughes had 36 points to his name.
Final Score: Cavs 102-79 Pacers

POG: Zydraunas Ilgauskas with 24 points, 11 vital rebounds and 4 blocks

Key Stats: Larry Hughes shot 69% from the field and Zyrdaunas Ilagauskas pulled down 11 influencing rebounds and added to the tally with 24 points of his own. Despiter LeBron James only getting 12 points, the Cavs had weapons elsewhere last night.

Pacers clinch OT thriller @ Cleveland

Following their loss 3 nights ago to the Cavaliers, the Indiana Pacers looked for revenge and returned to Cleveland with Marquis Daniels, who missed the last 2 games due to injury

Starting 5:
C Jermaine O'Neal C Zydraunas Ilgauskas
PF Al Harrington
PF Drew Gooden
SF Marquis Daniels SF LeBron James
SG Ricky Davis SG Larry Hughes
PG Sarunas Jasekivicius PG Eric Snow

The first quater started off well for both teams, sinking 3 straight baskets until LeBron James went on a 4-0 run and put the Cavs into a 10-6 lead. The Pacers bounced back through Jasekivicius, Davis and Harrington until Jermaine O'Neal picked up his third personal foul and on came David Harrison, who got the ball from Ilgauskas' missed free throw, dribbled downcourt, got fouled but converted along with the free-throw for a 3-point play. The Cavaliers remained consistent and good shooting from Harrington and Daniels ended the first quarter.
1st Quarter: Pacers 28-23 Cavs

Indiana attacked the basket from the the start of the 2cnd and forced Drew Gooden out of the game with 3 fouls and Donyell Marshall entered. Good defense from Harrison allowed Davis and Al Harrington to combine to put their team in a 40-31 lead. Harrison then blocked James, Hughes and Ilgauskas in a row and the lead extended to 50-40 late in the quarter. Despite LeBron James and Eric Snow shooting the mid-rangers, Indiana executed perfect offense and ended the quarter with 13 consecutive shots made and silencing the home crowd.
Half-Time: Pacers 58-42 Cavs

Larry Hughes and Cleveland came out with a purpose and did their best to claw back into the game but when Marquis Daniels hit two three's in a row, the energy was sapped out of the team apart from one man - LeBron James. Good Ilgauskas defense meant that Indy missed 7 straight and LeBron James got 5 consecutive as he made the score 69-63. Feeling the game starting to slip away, Rick carlisle smartly called a time-out and bought Jermaine O'Neal back into the line-up. Hughes, James, Harrington and O'Neal all got on the scoresheet before the end of the quarter.
3rd Quarter: Pacers 73-67 Cavs

Drew Gooden announced his return to the game with a monstrous slam-dunk to set Cleveland on their quest. Zyrdaunas Ilgauskas did exactly what changed the game 3 nights ago and got 3 offensive rebounds and punished Indiana and the crowd were sensing a come-back. After missing again on the offensive end, LeBron James soared for the fast-break dunk and tied the game. Having already seen a 16 point lead squandered by his team, Rick Carlisle had some serious talking to do. It seemed to have worked because O'Neal and Ricky Davis got points back. As the quarter progressed, Big Z, Davis, LBJ and Harrington all added to their tallys with 1:21 left on the clock, and the game tied at 86-86. The Cavs took their time in setting up the offence and thanks to a clever pass from Eric Snow, Ilgauskas got the easy bucket. Davis wasted no time and raced down the other end and dunked over Larry Hughes. With the score @ 90-90, Cleveland took a time-out. Again they set up their offence but the quick hands of Sarunas Jasekivicius got the vital steal from Snow, the Pacers held the ball but with the shot-clock winding dwon to 2, Harrington put up the fade-away........ it bounced of the rim and into the hands of Jermaine O'Neal who kicked it back out to the top with Jasekivicius. The shot-clock was now inactive and the away team had the chance of getting the game with only seconds left on the clock. The countdwon from started.....4.....3...... Jasekivicius spotted Daniels on the weak-side and fed him the ball...2...... he put up the shot from just in front of the arc...1..... EEEEEERRRGGGHHH. The shot missed and Indiana and the Cavaliers went to Over-time.
4th Quarter: Pacers 90-90 Cavs

Over-time started well fro Indiana as Marquis Daniels swished a three pointer and Davis and Harrington dunked home 1 each too. Larry Hughes fought back but the Cavs still trailed with the score at 102-96. Eric Snow got a three but Ricky Davis jammed home over Gooden - 1:48 left in OT. Gooden pulled down vital rebounds and LeBron James converted to put Cleveland ahead 107-106. Davis got a three point play and scored again along with Drew Gooden to make it 110-109-Pacers- 38 seconds left. Ilaguskas failed to convert the jump-shot and Harrington pounced upon the rebound and was sent to the free-throw line with 3.2 seconds left. He nailed them both. TO Cleveland. The Cavs fans couldn't take another over-time by the looks of them but they cheered their team onto the court. Ilgauskas found the inbound pass to LeBron James...he faked the shot and got it to Eric Snow who was waiting for the pass....... the buzzer went as the ball bounced of the rim and the Indiana Pacers had won a thrilling game of basketball and took their record up to 7-4.
Final Score: Pacers 112-109 Cavs

POG: Al Harrington - 27 pts, 16 rebounds, 4 assists.

Key Stats: Ricky Davis got a career-high 43 points and shot 71%. Sarunas Jasekivicius continued to find his team-mates and by the end of the night had 9 assists. Despite anther excellent scoring night for SG Larry Hughes who had 37 points, the Pacers managed to get the win on the road.

Jermaine O'Neal takes wings off the Hawks

An MVP-worthy performance by Jermaine O'Neal helped give Indiana the win over the 5-5 Atlanta Hawks @ Conseco Fieldhouse

Starting 5:
Image
C Jermaine O'Neal
PF Al Harrington
SF Marquis Daniels
SG Ricky Davis
PG Sarunas Jasekivicus

Image
C Zaza Pachulia
PF Shelden Williams
SF Josh Smith
SG Joe Johnson
PG Speedy Claxton

Indiana Pacers set up their offense well in the first getting good looks at the basket as did the Hawks, with Harrington, Davis, O'Neal, Claxton and Williams all getting on the scoreboard early on. As the quarter went on however, it seemed to deteriorate meaning not much points were put up by either team late on
1st Quarter: Hawks 12-14 Indiana

Sarunas Jasekivicius made his case even stronger on keeping his starting PG place over Darrel Armstrong geting a steal and a three-pointer much to the home fans delight. Speedy Claxton raced through the lanes for some and good rebounding by Williams kept the scores close.
2cnd Quarter: Hawks 25-27 Pacers

Jermaine O'Neal kept pushing the Atlanta defense to its limits and Pachulia couldn't cope as he got 11 ponts in 3 minutes. Shelden Williams and Josh Smith dunked 6 points between them but Harrington and Davis hit back with jams of their own meaning the scores were tied at the end of the 3rd, making way for an exciting 4th quarter @ Conseco Fieldhouse
3rd Quarter: Hawks 41-41 Pacers

Harrington and Claxton got the 4th quarter going but good defense from Jermaine O'Neal kept draft-pick Shelden Williams out and Marquis Daniels was able to convert. Joe Johnson almost singel-handedly bought Atlanta back though and the score was 53-52 Indiana. Then Jermaine O'Neal sprung to life, swatting away 4 attempts on 2 plays - Williams, Claxton (x2) and Josh Smith. He also did his part on the offense getting 3 assists to his outside men, and Marquis Daniels stretched the lead. With 57 seconds to go - Atlanta called a time-out with the score at 63-57. However the defense of the Pacers stayed strong and Davis and Harrington were sent to the charity stripe to end the game
Final Score: Hawks 57-66 Pacers

Quote Of the game: "Wow, what a great defensive player. Jermaine O'Neal is underrated, when you think of shot-blockers you think of Andrei Kirilenko, Tim Thomas but O'Neal is right up there with the best in the league" - Steve Kerr

POG: Jermaine O'Neal - 18pts, 14 rbs, 5 assists, 6 blocks

Keystats: Jermaine O'Neal made the paint his own with 6 blocks and high-point man Ricky Davis grabbed 19 points to clinch the victory despite 13 rebounds by Shelden Williams and 16 pts by Speedy Claxton

Big Match Countdown

Image
VS.
Image

East meets West tonight @ the Staples Arena - LA.

Probably the most even match-up you are going to see in the NBA, both teams have a current record of 8-3. The Clippers have a impressive list of victorys, over the Hornets, Lakers and even the Mavericks. The Pacers have beaten the Bucks, the Bobcats, the Rockets, the Cavaliers, the Magic, the 76ers, the Nets and the Hawks.

The Clippers' Sam Cassel has been very impressive thus far, getting 18.6 points a game and shooting 47% from the floor. Elton Brand has 3 blocks a game and 18 PPG.

Surprise arrival Ricky Davis has been Indiana's best offensive player. Since his arrival in October from the Timberwolves, Davis has averaged 24.3 points a game and shot 51.1%. If the game is going to be won, fro Indiana it will be won on defense. Harrington and O'Neal have a solid partnership in the key and O'Neal averaging 3 blocks a game and 6 rebounds.

Rebounding may become a problem for the Pacers tomorrow night as '7''0 Chris Kaman has pulled down 6 a gameand put back 7.1 PPG.

Key Match-up: Elton Brand vs Al Harrington

Big Match Countdown Update:

Massive news has come to the NBA tonight - just 2 hours before the big-match the Indiana Pacers vs. LA Clippers, Chris Kaman has been ruled out of the clash.
It is believed that the 7 footer has strained his right knee ligament and will be out for7-10 days.
Filling in for the Clippers will be out-of-position, former Sun, SF: Tim Thomas. This will mean that Elton Brand will be moved from his preffered PF position and will be playing Center as Thomas moves to PF.
