Jing,

I really like your Dynasty Stories with all the pictures and stats very organized
Unfortuanely for us Celtics fans the season was not off to a good start I feel the Celtics have really good players but for some reason there are not getting things done I feel big changes in Boston are needed to return it to it former glory of the Bird Era classic matchups Bird vs. Magic i find to very slim in this day and age in the NBA
The Hamilton trade is sweet but i feel that in real life the trade would not go down it must be hard to program what the CPU takes and rejects

Bogut and Bucks unable to stop Celtics’ Winning Streak

    November 25, 2006
    Boston Celtics – 129
    Milwaukee Bucks - 112
Click on team names for Boxscores!

Going into the last quarter the Celtics held the lead, and they were not about to let it go. By triple-teaming shooter Michael Redd, Boston completely took him out of the game; Redd managed only 3 points in the last quarter, a three pointer. The Bucks perhaps killed themselves as well, by not taking care of the ball and not being aware of what was happening. The Bucks had two 24-second shot clock violations as well as a 3-second lane violation. These mistakes took away many chances for the Bucks to mount a comeback.

The Celtics later put in their second-string, namely Dwyane Jones, Kedrick Perkins, Rudy Gay, Gerald Green, and this lineup still dominated. Gay hit several tough shots in the paint while Jones had a nasty dunk on Andrew Bogut and Charlie Villanueva.

Delonte West was named POTG with a season high 39 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists; he also stole the ball 3 times and only turned it over once. Another notable performer for the Celtics was captain Paul Pierce, who scored 24. Rudy Gay and Wally Szczerbiak had 11 and 12 respectively. For the Bucks Redd led the team with 28 while Bobby Simmons had 25. In a surprise, Charlie Bell came off the bench to reinstate himself with 13.

Celtics Win Overtime Battle With Nets

    November 29, 2006
    Boston Celtics – 173
    New Jersey Nets - 165
Click on team names for Boxscores!

The Celtics and Nets shattered the quadruple overtime game by the 1952/53 Syracuse Nationals, who were playing… the Boston Celtics! The Boston-New Jersey game took 6 overtimes to settle the score.

The final quarter of regulation had the teams already neck and neck with each other. New Jersey took off a tired Vince Carter and put on Kiwi rookie Andrew Watson. Watson started off slow, but soon got into the rhythm and helped his team stay with the Celtics while putting a hard defense on Paul Pierce and Richard Hamilton. Jason Collins was also very big for the Nets, stuffing two Celtics dunks, including a fast break attempt by Hamilton. With just seconds left in the quarter and the teams deadlocked at 98, Antonio Wright was whistled for the offensive foul when he collided with Pierce, but the Celtics weren’t able to convert and the game headed into its first overtime at 98 – 98. At this time the backcourt of the Celtics has been what’s keeping them in the game, with 25 for Hamilton and 24 for West. At this time Al Jefferson already has 13 points and a team high 16 rebounds. For the Nets, they were led by Collins and his 28 and 14 performance.
      Image Image

The first overtime began with the Nets winning the tipoff and scoring right away. Boston played from behind for several possessions before Wally Szczerbiak drained a three pointer to give Boston a 104-103 lead at the 3:30 mark. The Nets opened a four point lead with just 40 seconds left, but again the Celtics tied it on two West free throws and a Gerald Green poster of Watson and Nenad Krstic. Jason Kidd missed a last second shot attempt, causing the second OT. During this quarter Pierce picked up his 5th foul and was forced to the bench. Collins of the Nets extended his great performance by totaling 19 rebounds, though he didn’t score any points in the first overtime.

Richard Jefferson took the winning tip off and shot a dagger into the Celtic fan’s hearts when he took off for a “statue of liberty” 360 dunk on Green. But the Celtics countered with a gigantic dunk by Green after he broke away from Jefferson on the other end. Jason Kidd was the good and bad for the Nets as he drained a three pointer to give them the lead, but on the ensuing possession, plowed over Delonte West for a charge call. Again with the score tied at 123, the Nets had possession, but Krstic’s shot over Gay clanked off the front of the iron, drawing yet another overtime. By now Jefferson has 19 points and 20 rebounds, but also picked up his 5th foul. RIP Hamilton has also been confined to the bench with 8 turnovers.

The theme of this overtime is mental mistakes: New Jersey had a three-second lane violation on them as well as two shot clock violations. In such a close game, such mental lapses cannot happen. Despite these lapses, New Jersey had a 137-134 lead before Wally World drained a three to tie the game with just 16.1 left. Facing a chance to win the game, the Nets blew it yet again; the fourth time. The Nets have Collins and Krstic with 20-plus rebounds, while Jason Kidd needs 4 more assists for a triple-double.

The fourth overtime started off beautifully as the Celtics drained a three-pointer from the corner and took the lead. Things looked even better as Richard Jefferson was called for the offensive foul; the game could have ended here. Jason Kidd however had different ideas as he drew the game the Nets’ way with a jumper for the lead. Down 154 – 152 with just 1.5 seconds left, the inbounds pass went to backup forward Dwyane Jones, who laid it over a Nets defender just as time expired, forcing a fifth overtime. Pierce, West, and Jefferson are players on the Celtics who have 5 fouls, while Krstic fouled out for the Nets while Kidd has 5.

Headed into the last overtime, Boston fell behind early again, but several big shots by Hamilton put them on top. From there the Celtics never looked back and never gave the Nets any more chances. Hamilton’s three-pointer was followed by West’s three. Eventually the Nets were forced to intentional foul, but Boston calmly sank all of their free throws. Finally the buzzer sounded and Boston fans could breathe. The final score was 173 – 165 Boston. Delonte West was named POTG with a game high 40 points, 14 assists, and 4 steals. Jefferson led the Celtics with 22 rebounds to go along with 23 points. For the Nets, all of their starters scored over 20 points, and rookie Andrew Watson pitched in 18 points and 6 boards during the loss.

    November Recap
    Courtesy of the Boston Celtics

    Image

The Celtics finished the first full month of the NBA season by going 10-4, one of the best records in the Eastern Conference. The Celtics did not have any games on Sundays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. Boston had its best week during the second week of the season, going perfect. Their biggest win came against the New Jersey Nets in the longest game in NBA history.

    Image

Chicago rookie Jon Smith is currently at the head of the pack for the NLSC players. Currently he is the best candidate for the ROTY award with 24.9 points and 10.9 rebounds. Ben Branch and Sam Anurak are right on his tail though as they are averaging 21.9 and 21.2 points respectively. Anurak also currently is leading the NLSC rookies with 6.1 assists a game. The worst performer on the NLSC-ers is William Sit of the New Orleans Hornets. Sit is stuck behind minute-hog Chris Paul and Patrick Willis. On a separate note, Ben Branch is still recovering from a injury he suffered near the middle of the month; he still has several days on his recovery.

    Image

For Boston the only player thats yet to play a game is foward Brian Scalabrine, but there has never really been a need for him to play with the way that Boston's season has been going so far. Newcomers Nazr Mohammed hasn't done very well since coming over from the Pistons and might be on the verge of yet another trade. His counterpart Richard Hamilton has flourished however, averaging 13.6 points and 5.6 assists a game. Paul Pierce has been the leader however with 23.3 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 5.6 assists. Power Foward Al Jefferson is close to averaging a double-double with 11.5 points and 9.3 rebounds a game. Boston's only rookie Rudy Gay has been performing well so far, putting up 11.9 a game as well as 4.8 boards off the bench.

    Image

Pau Gasol finally gets the recognition he deserves as he is head of the MVP race as he is averaging 24.5 points, 12.3 rebounds, and 2.8 blocks a game. Right on his tail however is Kevin Garnett with 27.6 points, 13.2 rebounds, and 3.15 blocks. The Jazz have two surprising players in this mix, Small Foward Andrei Kirilenko and Center Mehmet Okur. Amare Stoudamire brings up the rear with 19.9 and 10.9.

    ImageImage
    ImageImage

Since Gasol is the leading candidate for MVP, then its a give that he is the West Player of the Month. Chris Bosh of the Raptors is the East Player of the Month despite his team's horrible record. He and rookie Branch have co-existed pretty together though, however their backcourt is weak and thats the result of their horrible record. Jon Smith and Sam Anurak are the leaders in their respective divisions, and thus given the award for the Rookie of the Month in their respective conferences.

    ImageImage

Philadelphia definitely is the surprise of the league at 13-1. Going into this first month break, Milwaukee has been the team going down the drain, on a 6 game loss. For the West, San Antonio Spurs are the top team in their conference at 13-3.
