Texas Hold Em

In the last year or so I have gotten completely addicted to No-Limit Texas Hold em. I play every day, mostly with friends, but sometimes we go to the $200 buy in $2/4 blind games at card rooms. When I play with my friends there are usually 3-5 of us, and we play small stakes, just $50 each, and we usually play untill one of us has it all.

I was curious if anyone else plays, if they'd want to share some stories and strategy. I know LouisvilleLip was a poker junkie too, but he doesn't post here anymore.

I dont have the slightest clue how to play ny of those card games but I've always wanted to learn. Seems exciting seeing them play in the WSOP. Yall should enter an event one year and try your luck.

The only thing that angers me about Texas Hold 'Em is that sports channels are now showing Poker as if it is a sport. I feel like slitting my wrists when I rush down to my television to watch a Raptors game when I see Wang Ping Chung taking 80 minutes deciding whether or not he'll fold or go all in.

Its_asdf, worse was when they started the world series of darts...but anyway I play once in awhile indy but you call 50 low stakes? shit we'd never have a buy in of more than 3 when we played back in the dorms....i'm not very good so i dont play often, but its fun when i do. Maybe you and me should play hold em and smoke a blunt some weekend :chug:

I play.
Just learned a few months and gettin good at it from getting tips from friends, cousins, uncles, etc.

We play tournament style.
$20 to get in and no buy-ins when you lose.
So we have about 7-9 people playing every Friday or every family, friends party or something.
The pots are close to $200 and thats pretty damn good playing so many rounds.

Hey, at least darts requires some sort of athletic ability. It is WAY more of a sport than poker....

I'm so glad it's over an hour drive to the nearest 18+ casino (since I'm not 21 yet). I would go all the time if I was bored or something.

I'm afraid to play NL at the casinos... I like limit because it keeps me in check despite all those people that stay in to the end to catch something. I usually play 3/6 kill or sometimes 2/4. I'm not a high roller :wink:

That's nothing more than a matter of opinion. Some would say soccer, or hockey are incredibly boring. I myself love watching the former, but can't stand watching the latter. I'd much rather watch Tiger shoot 18 holes at Augusta than a Sabres or Rangers or whomever hockey game.

Yeah, I just go all in even without anything... half the time the other guys get out of the game so more chips for me... It's not smart or anything... the only gameplan I follow is: Pretend to have something, try to be intimidating...

I dont like texas holdem cuz its 90% luck and 10% skill. Other games, like 5 card draw and 7 card stud are much more skill based.

That's not true at all. No-Limit hold em is the most skilled poker game you can play. You have to read the cards as they come and read the way players bet according to different situations.

To be truly good at poker is to acquire experience. I've been playing it off and on for a while, and it's especially fun to play against other people. Granted, there's a lot of luck involved, but keeping a neutral, emotionless face, or some consistency all the way through, and trying to read everybody else's face is just as important as the cards themselves.

I think I'll pick up a poker game for the pc instead of blowing my money to follow up on my interest. Hopefully in time I can join in on this convo with informed lines like "I drew a 3 way slip and he folded deuce dobles".

nah it's actually 10% luck, 20% skill, 15% concentrated power of will, 5% pleasure, 50% pain... ah forget it.

but seriously, I think holdem requires more skill because you're dealt two cards that make all the difference between you and your opponent. You have 4 rounds of betting to convince them that you have a better hand, and it's a poker game where you can win without having the best hand.

in draw poker, you just hold on to your best cards and hope that you get the cards you want. With usually only 2 rounds of betting, you can't really bluff people out of the pot.

Stud is a lot like holdem where it all depends on your hole cards. the difference is that people can see mose of your cards, so you have to try to use that to your advantage

It started with normal poker in early high school, then Hearts, followed by Hold'Em..

Haha me and my friends play. I SUCK. I always seem to either win it all or lose completely. Usually the latter. My stratergy tends to be betting on the first 2 cards i'm given, and then losing.

I play texas hold em all the fucking time on xbox 360. You start off with a bankroll of 20,000 and now my bankroll is over 4 million. 8-)

After I got home from the Pacers game I played for about 30 minutes and won $250.

It was a pretty good night all around.
