Saw Borat. It was not an easy watch for me, i think simply because i got so disgusted are horrible racist prejudiced shit the americans were telling Borat. While i was laughing for the entirety, if you are easily offended, this movie isnt gonna be your thing. I'm usually the guy who says stuff that make my friends tell me i'm gonna burn in hell. From racism, to retards, i say it all. and so does Borat. Props on the free speech department, props for fucking with the more stupid aspects of American culture, but for some reason just wasnt that easy a watch for me (probly being half jewish). Funniness factor its definitely 10/10....but overall just due to the sheer amount of offensive material, i found myself unsure whether to laugh or be angry. And that may be the best part about it

Borat was fantastic. Completely hilarious throughout. I was not unsure about laughing even once. A lot of the comedy is in how ridiculouly overboard the situations are, and on top of that I can't remember ever being actually offended by anything. I can see what would be offensive, I just don't find it offensive. Ever.

And illini, I don't know if you know this, but Sacha Baron Cohen (Borat) is Jewish himself.

i know colin, but that still doest make it that much better when other people (the people he runs into) agree with Borats comments....the more i dwell on this movie the more i think i like it, my brain was just so overloaded right off the bat i didnt know what to think...possibly need to see it again to catch the more subtle now that i can get over the shock value....i used to never be offended , for christs sake, my favorite show is south park favorite episode being Cripple Fight....but yeah...i think i'm gonna check out the ali g show a little later...

On a completely different note, finally caught up to the rest of the world and saw The Departed. All i can say is Scorsese (spelling?) is becoming one of my fave directors and that Dicaprio may have finally atoned for Titanic....great movie, strange ending, but no other ending would've fit....

Watched an early showing of The Departed, it starts only this coming Thursday. Although it was at 12 a.m. and in another city, I convinced my brother in law to lend me his car. I went to the movie with an old female friend I hadn't met for quite some time from the island. To my surprise she really liked the movie, I think I'll be keeping in touch with her a lot more from now on. She even shushed me during the movie. My kinda woman.

Anyways on to the movie, it was great, the plot was great, the direction was great & the acting was top notch. I literally sat there hoping the movie would not end.

The best character had to be that of Mark Wahlberg's, the only downside of his character was his hairdo, I mean what the fuck? Second best character belonged to Jack Nicholson, then to Matt Damon and finally Leonardo DiCaprio.

Best acting was indeed extracted from DiCaprio but I think that has to do with the fact Scorsese's worked with him before. None the less, a marvelous treat to watch this man in this movie. Matt Damon was top notch as his usual self, this guy is one of the best things in recent years. Now if only Damon & Afleck could get us another oscar worthy script. Lazy bastards.

This has indeed slipped in to my top five movies and has become the best movie of the year so far.

Lastly, I was surprised to see Brad Pitt produce the movie and not even have a miniscule special appearance in it.

Its a representation of what happens when you take an obsession too far. I'd recommend anyone to watch it...I mean its not the best movie ever but its better than most options out there.

i watched it this past weekend and i really enjoyed it. then again, anything invovling Christian Bale i'd probably like hehe

it's an excellent movie but i'm not so sure if it's something for the mainstream. it's similar like a previous Nolan work- memento, though not as out of sequence hehe. the theater i saw it at- there were a lot of kids/teens and they seemed pretty disappointed.

if you're into those Memento/machinist/etc type movies, i highly recommend it- great script and acting. the only 'problem' with this movie is that you'll probably want to see again right away to see it again how everything comes together.

some great movie lists- i thought i was the only one here that loved Ferris Bueller's day off

i saw Swingers was left off the lists so far. that is a classic. this by far is Vince Vaughn at his best. a must see

Hey Don, isn't your country getting an early screening of Departed a bit late cause its been out for ages. Well, don't know where you're from, at least I now know Aussieland isn't last. :D

And no offence but Wahlberg's character was just over the top and not neccesary. Some of his 'jokes' like the 'hows ur mom' joke which ended with his grandma I think it was... was good for humour. But the 100th time he yelled out fuck was just getting too stupid. Sorry man, I don't agree he was the best character. But I guess it was included for comedic reasons.

I suggest you go and watch Infernal Affairs if you like The Departed.

Zoom, I live in the Netherlands, if you want to know how late some of the movies are released here, read my post regarding The Departed after Jae's initial post. Click (the movie) released here on the 19th of October. After I had it on DVD. With menu's.

I think they take a lot of time to release it because the subtitleing takes a lot of time, all movies have dutch subs because a lot of people are just too stupid to speak/comprehend normal english. It's quite sad to be honest.

I don't think he was too over the top, me & my brother in law's are like that all the time, we were really rolling off our chairs. That's what you get with a bunch of little boys in "grown up" bodies I suppose.

I saw Mission Impossible 3 the other day and was very well surprised. It was a lot better than nr.2, and it's extremely rare that a sequel (not to mention second sequel) lives up to the same standard of the first one. But this one did a very good job at it.. I give it a 4/5 despite my disliking towards Tom Cruise

I also saw Superman Returns but I didn't think that was all that great. The only thing I didn't care too much for was the storyline and how it was brought forward. It just felt distant somehow and failed to bring me into it. To me, the whole movie could have been a future season finale of Smallville. :? 3/5

Don, sucks for you. (N) And I thought Aussies got it late...

With Dignam... I admit there were some parts of him I enjoyed... the 'I screwed ur mama' joke, the doign the finger to Damon through the window, the part where he quit cause he was taking a swipe at Damon cause he knew there was something fishy with him... but in just some scenes, him saying the f word maybe once too many times really annoyed me. Granted, though, if I was one year younger maybe I would think that he was an awesome character. Now I just can't wrap my head around a cop so high up in the system who acts like a HS bully... wait, he's American...

The movie was really well acted and well scripted. I've read that in order to fully admire the work done in this film, you need to have had lived in Boston... apparantly the film does really well to blend into real life and give it the audience a realistic feel of Boston and it's crime.

I agree, Costello was done really well and portrayed really well by Nicholson. One of the better minor role performances was by Sheen as Queenan. He did a great job! Sheen and Wahlberg looked good on screen together and it was pretty funny how whenever Wahlberg had one of his 'violent' surges, Sheen didn't do anything about it.

Leo turned in his best performance ever and Matt Damon did one of his best ones too. Those two really took advantage of the script and acted the part to perfection. :D I was surprised by Leo, I was always a Leo basher cause his roles in Romeo and Juliett and Titanic made him so sissy-like. I never liked him but this movie has made me think of him differently. He's a decent actor. (Y) Matt Damon did so well, I wanted him to die. Seeing the girl walk past him in the end made me jump out of my seat. Then him walking into his apartment with the gun to his head, I loved that! We all knew it was the end for him.

On a seperate note though, I would have preferred that they didn't kill off Damon especially with a character in Whalberg who had disappeared from the whole stroyline for like the whole second half of the movie... but I guess:

A) Hollywood doesn't want bad guys to win/live
B) It ties up the end of the show to the start where Nicholson says, 'You can choose to be a cop or a robber (or something)... but when you're facing a loaded gun, what's the difference?' or something like that.

So after my long ass post, just wanted to say I'm expecting Oscars for Best Director, Best Supporting actor for Nicholson (I'm not sure if he's eligible since he's listed in a lead role I think...), Best film and a handful of other nominations including a best actor.

The Departed, while i love scorcese and enjoyed the movie thoroughly i dont think is the kind of thing the academy usually goes for. There are many other movies and i dont think this one will take best picture or best director or even best actor...they may get some nods, but i dont think it will win. But what the hell do i know? I hated Crash, brokeback mountain, and am not a huge fan of capote (although i do think hoffman was well deserving of his best actor award), and those were the big 3 last year...so maybe thats why i'm thinking that...i cant remember in recent years liking an oscar movie other than LOTR, and thats simply because of the books

Damn Zoom, for the folks that haven't seen The Departed, that post was full of spoilers. Especially the end.

I'll be depressed if Scorsese doesn't get the statue after this long.

It might not take out Best Film because I'm not sure what the Academy wants to see but I think Best Director is nearly in the bag for Martin Scorsese. He did an excellent job. Best actor is a bit of a strech too but you never know. Reviews have beeen positive for this movie and although I'm not sure where a gross of $ 91, 000, 000 makes it stand; it's still easily been the best film release this year in my eyes.

I don't know, maybe this movie isn't 'deep' enough to win the Best Movie Award... you never know. It was a great action movie with a clever plot, great performances by its actors and apparantly sets the tone and presents the nature of the place where it is set very well. So I'm sure it will get nominated at least. (Y)

Watched Independence Day on Saturday night on TV... I still love that movie. I think it is the best modern Alien takeover the world movie. Day after Tommorrow or watever it was and Tom Cruise has got nothing over Bill Pullman, Will Smith and 'Jurrasic Park guy with Goldblum or watever as his last name'. In fact, an interesting fact is that I wtached ID4 and Space Jam on my first ever airplane flight. Ever since I've been interested in basketball and aliens/paranormal

Watched Borat this evening. Hilarious movie, I loved some of his one-liners that he pulled at the right times. I think the most interesting part was when he participated in the Pentacostal church. Crazy Americans.

I was watching heaps of trailers for Borat the other day when I saw the funniest thing I have seen in a long time, cyanide could you tell me if it was in the movie?

It was something about ettiquete and how to be a gentleman when he was having dinner with some really poncy, rich family. He says to this old blonde woman something along the lines of "You have a gentle face and erotic features", then a man on the other side of the table says "That is true, thats a good observation". Borat replies with "She is your wife?" the man says "No, thats my wife" and points to the woman at the opposite end of the table. Borat then says "In my country, they would go crazy (laughter from the people) uh... for these two.... (points to the 2 women beside him)... (points to the guys wife) uh... not so much..."

The table goes completely silent then husband of the woman just stares him out. It was hilarious, I'l try find a clip on Youtube or something of it if you havn't seen it. Not sure when borat comes out over here but I'm gonna go see it for sure.

Flite_23, yeah that was in the movie. I think it was in every trailer I've seen.
One of the funniest parts is where his driving instructor sais "women have a right to choose who they want ot have sex with.." and Borat in total disbelief, cries "WHAAAAT??"

Did anyone see the teaser trailer for "The Simpsons Movie"?
Homer was in a tractor with a wrecking ball, he says "Time to save my family!" He proceeds to use the wrecking ball to....

Well just see for yourself.
