If anyone is interested in ska music at all... lately ive been listening to Keasbey Nights by Catch 22, and it has got to be one of the best ska cds ive heard...

I strongly reccommend either buying or downloading it, even if you have no idea what ska music is (Y)

illini wrote:kick ass Indy. I was a big RATM fan, and although i'm not a huge fan of audioslave, morello is not the reason why. He is one of the few great guitarists of this generation. The best story i have even close to meeting rockstars is the band chronic future played a show and i got to have a couple drinks with them which at the time i thought was awesome...too bad they kinda one hit wondered it....

I don't like Audioslave either, but its because of the singer first and foremost.

Plus I just don't think the song writing is nearly as good as it was for Rage.

Pretty sweet new stuff too. Magius, have you heard of The New Pornographers? Neko Case does vocals for some of their songs. And if you like that kind of new stuff, maybe check out the CBC Radio 3 podcast, it's got a variety of new, independant music.

definitely! i love them too. there is some really great canadian music out there. off the top of my head: Final Fantasy, Arcade Fire, keren ann, The Dears, Godspeed You Black Emperor, Silver Mt. Zion, Weakerthans, Chad VanGaalen, Wolf Parade, Lovely Feathers, New Pornographers, Julie Doiron, Broken Social Scene, Feist, A Northern Chorus, Of Montreal, We Are Wolves, Black Mountain/Pink Mountaintops, Caribou, Constantines, Joel Plaskett, Cuff the Duke, Geranimo, , The Dudes, Ninja High School, Buck 65, Islands, Death From Above 1979, Stars. all pretty nice. I also have a cd that I bought from either a club or somewhere else by les finnigan... and its just acoustic guitar, but i really like it.

i will check out the cbc, thanks for the heads up.

and yes the tribe rocks. :D

I've heard about 3/4 of those bands on the podcast. (Y)

I don't think Zack dela Rocha ever pre-wrote a song. He just writes what he said after a jam session. :)

For Canadian music it's all about k-os. His three albums are probably the three best hip-hop albums to come out of Canada. If you want to classify his work as hip-hop, it draws from a multitude of genres. He also features the aforementioned Buck 65 on a track on his latest album. And Sam Roberts if you know of him.

Check my site, for a long ass writeup I just did. I'd been meaning to do individual writeups for all these artists albums or singles, but my exams have meant little spare time for me.

So instead, I did one long post. I just added it onto my site now, go check it:

I'm not a fan of Hip-Hop at all, but I checked out the site and it looks really sweet. The write-ups seemed good as well. But I didn't read to much cause it doesn't really interest me to be honest but I can appreciate the dedication and work.

Thanks for checking it man (Y)

Anyone heard about the new Who album Endless Wire? It came out here today, but I haven't got it yet. From what I've read it's better than expected after a 24 year hiatus.

Thu Nov 02, 2006 8:27 am

I got to hang out with Tom Fucking Morello last night.

 I would love to talk politics with him. R.A.T.M. is the most influential band of the last 15 years imo.

I don't like Audioslave either, but its because of the singer first and foremost.

Plus I just don't think the song writing is nearly as good as it was for Rage.

I liked Chris Cornell in Soundgarden, not so much in Audioslave. Ahh grunge music.

I don't think Zack dela Rocha ever pre-wrote a song. He just writes what he said after a jam session.

What the hell happened to him? Did the government get him? :shifty: BTW "Ashes in the Fall" from "The Battle of Los Angeles" is my favorite Rage song. :headbang:

Thu Nov 02, 2006 9:06 am

OleEnglish, i have to disagree on influential bands of the last 15 years. Rage was too "hard" to get their message widespread....you have to be able to package your politics in a way the general public will accept and listen. I think my vote for influence politically is REM...Michael Stipe made a whole new generation of hippies.

Also while on politically charged bands: The Clash I'm slowly realizing could easily be one of the greatest bands of all time....

Yeah Artest album didn't even bother dowloading. New albums I'm liking... Wiz Khalifa - Show & Prove, Tech N9ne - Everready (The Religion) & AZ - The Format. Akon and Game not bad either getting some listens.

Sat Nov 04, 2006 9:04 pm

Wiz is real nice, he sent me out that album a few weeks ago...definetely a rapper to check for in the future.

How's Tech's album? I might end up buying that
<Huge Tech N9ne fan (Y)

Sun Nov 05, 2006 2:29 am

It's definatly different, but theres a few tracks I can't get enough of. Tech being different is kinda something you expect though. The 2nd CD is good to it has like 2 tracks from all the artists on his new Strange music label. I'd at least download for sure.

Sun Nov 05, 2006 10:57 am

Sounds good, there's been so many damn albums to check for lately...I cannot wait till my exams are over, so I can give them some good listens.
Thursdays the day (Y)

Sun Nov 05, 2006 7:48 pm

Anyone here listen to the Killers CD? "sams town" Thats an excellent cd. "Bones" , "The river runs wild" and "Bling(Confessions of a king)" are my favorite tracks. When you were young isn't bad either. I also have the Ludacris cd, my friend burned me these two cd's. Nice album, "grew up a screw up" is my favorite track in the cd.
