2nd Chance Audition - Voices

Image
Competing for a roster spot will be tough for every player. Stats are not what we are looking for. It's teamplay we are focusing on. It's the will to compete, to hustle, to show that one can still be part of a team. Today when we helt our first training session it was clear that most of the players still have it. Nevertheless, till the tournament begins 3 players will be cut from the roster and the rest will play against the other three teams. - Don Nelson

Image
I think it is the right thing to do. Our team is very talented but it lacks experience. I'm sure that this tournament will help us to improve our roster in order to compete for a playoff seed. Don [Nelson] introduced a complete new direction. It's very tough for players who are not familiar with pro-sports. There has been a lot of critizism recently but that's what this team needs. I'm very much looking forward to watch the game - especially because I can enjoy it from the stands near to our die hard fans who are still loyal to our team. - Baron Davis

Image
I'm happy to get this chance. The Warriors are a good team and I'm looking forward to show my best game. It will be tough for us because we're not exactly in shape but that doesn't matter. If you really want to be on the team you shake off everything which is disturbing you and you battle out on the court. I've been on a couple of teams throughout my carreer but I never wanted a roster spot this badly. And I'm confident that I will succeed!

According to Don Nelson, Head coach of the Golden State Warriors, three players have already been cut from the roster for the upcoming 2nd Chance Audition.

Nikoloz Tskitishvili, Power Forward, was unable to practice with the team due to a nagging back injury. His spot will be replaced by Brian Grant who has recently been released by the Boston Celtics.

Anthony Carter, Point Guard, is the first player who was cut from the roster without another player replacing him. "His game unfortunately does not fit in our system, but we wish him the best for the future." - Don Nelson

Doug Christie, Shooting Guard, who was cosnidered having the best chances to make the team left San Francisco today. "I'm not in shape and it's very hard to compete with those guys" he said. The Warriors, who are still keen on having him on the team, were unable to talking him out of his decision. "It's his decision, and we have to accept it" - Jason Richardson said.

The Golden State Warriors face the Toronto Raptors this evening in the Arena in Oakland. The Warriors' roster include several league veterans who will play against Chris Bosh & Co in order to secure a roster spot on the Warriors' team. "We don't expect a win today but we expect to see the fire in the eyes of the guys out there" - Don Nelson, Head Coach. Great idea man (Y)

However I thought Darvin Ham is with Detroit... ah well...

Looking forward to see what Penny, Wagner can to...

Don't think you should keep Foyle or Davis on your team... I'm a bit iffy bout Grant...

Thx Zoom.
Ham was cut from Detroit's roster and is currently a Free Agent.
I'm not very keen on Foyle either but Davis can still contribute especially regarding rebounds. Only a couple of hours and we'll see how game 1 turns out.

cheers

Golden State Warriors vs. Toronto Raptors 68 - 72

Quarter by Quarter
The first game of the Second Chance audition began with an early 3 pointer by the Raptor's Fred Jones answered by a jumper by Anfernee Hardaway. Antonio Daves felt obviously comfortable on the defensive end blocking two shots early in the game. Allthough the Warriors played very well on the defensive end they struggled on offense allowing the Raptors to go on a 12-4 run in the first. The raptors controlling the boards extended their lead quickly not allowing any easy buckets for the Warriors. The Warriors obviously stunned by the performance of the Raptors were not able to get their game going giving the Raptors a 21 - 9 lead at the end of the first.

Key play of the quarter:
Ryan Bowen steals the Ball from T.J. Ford to prevent a bigger lead of the Raptors.

Quote of the quarter:
"It's unbelievable, even with two defenders on him he hit the shots" - Anthony Roberson about the performance of T.J. Ford.

Key stats of the quarter:
2 blocked shots by Antonio Davis

Early in the second quarter the Warriors obviously played more organized. Not allowing the Raptors to extend their lead Brian Grant and Jahidi White narrowed the gap to 8 with a couple of beautiful
plays in the paint. The Warriors again struggled to score and the Raptors got away with a 43 - 20 lead at half-time. But the home team hit some key shots near the end of the quarter preparing for a come-back.

Key play of the quarter:
DaJuan Wagner hit 3 consecutive shots, 2 of them 3 pointers, to help the Warriors to come back into the game.

Key stats of the quarter:
2 Blocks by Jahidi White
7 Boards, 4 of them on the offensive end, by Jorge Gabarjosa

Penny Hardaway opened the third quarter with hitting the consecutive shots in a row and dishing out 3 assists to narrow the gap to 15.
The Warriors battled their way back in the game due to an outstanding performance of Erick Strickland and Penny Hardaway. They hit shot after shot and really battled defensively recording not less than 4 steals till the middle of the third. After a 23 point deficit at halftime the Warriors able to fight back outscoring the Raptors by 5 in the quarter.
The visiting team still leads 64 - 46.

ImageImage

Key play of the quarter:
Matt Barnes steals the ball two times in a row and finds Hardaway open for an easy 3 pointer.

Quote of the quarter:
"He may be old but he is still very very quick" - Jose Manuel Calderon on defending Penny Hardaway.

Key stats of the quarter:
4 steals in the quarter by the Warriors.
13 points by Penny Hardaway.

The Warriors played as organized as they were playing in the third and were able to narrow the gap to 14 early in the final quarter. The home team really battled in the 4th quarter hitting key shots and defending like the Britains against the Frechn. With 2 minutes left to go they were able to narrow the gap to 5. After a great dunk by Andrea Bargnani which gave the Raptors a 7 point lead they took the speed out of the game allowing the Warriors no more points. A three point play by Ryan Bowen narrowed the gap to 4 with 13 seconds left. But the Warriors unable to get the ball lost after an outstanding comeback 72 to 68.

Seems my decision of waiving Foyle was the right one :) Thanks guys. And yeah it was a fun match. I could'nt find any rythm in the first half. It's tough to play with guys who can't hit long jumpers or score in the paint.

Charlotte Bobcats vs. Denver Nuggets 97 - 99

Smith hits buzzer beater to lift the Nuggets over the Bobcats
The Bobcats started their first game in the 2nd chance audition with a strong first quarter performance, outscoring the Nuggets 38 - 26. But Carmelo Anthony, who leads 4 nuggets in double figures, wasn't willing to allow the Bobcats an easy win. After narrowing the gap to 6 at half-time the Bobcats were able to keep this lead until the fourth quarter. Then the showtime for the Nuggets began. Smith and Anthony, combining for 20 points in the fourth, led the nuggets to a single point deficit with 22 secontds to play. After a timeout call by the Bobcats, Boykins stole the inbounds pass. With only a couple of seconds to go, he found Smith wide open for a three and he hits it at the buzzer allowing the Nuggets to come away with the 97 - 99 win.
