post per page limit

it seems that people on this forum are in a competition to see who can have the biggest signature picture or something...everybody's got this huge ass picture that makes the pages take forever to load

on 56k anyway

But regardless, the posts per page limit is way too high...usually it's around 15-20...but it seems you got it at 50

which not only makes the forum really slow to navigate compared to others, but then you're scrolling down forever once you get in the thread. The pages never seem to end

I personnaly like w/e it is now because that way I don't have to keep clicking next page. I'm on dsl though, so that does make a difference.

The number of topics and posts per page is actually 100. 20 is too low, and I say that as a 56k user. The minimum I would consider is 50.

I know we talked about this before and I know I was one of those who didn't care the posts per page, however, I didn't count with those huge sigs and Kobe pics people are attaching to their sigs.

100 is fine by me, otherwise u have too click pages the whole time too read all the posts , but i have cable so i dont have to wait that long, i think u should lower the limit for sigs cuz i think they are the main reason for long loading times

Enough with the blatant partisanship. Everyone was making suggestions, I made my own. I don't see you attacking anyone elses suggestions?

But perhaps you were simply wrongfully assuming (since we know what assume does...) the meaning of my suggestion. As I was obviously saying, it should be an option in my profile to choose how many posts I want to see. If want 25 a page or 20,000 a page it should be my choice.

I've seen boards that use the same code that have that option for users

Ben's idea was pretty good. although there probebly is like 1/2 of all the members here that doesn't bother with such small personal settings. and just leave it at 'forum default'...

if you'r gonna change it; i would also go with 50...

I still think 100 is best. it takes longer to browse through stuff if the page limit is smaller, even if it takes ages to load...you're going to have to load it all anyway.

if that's the case why not make the limit 5000??

I haven't seen that many threads with a serious amount of replies

there are very few threads with replies in the 100's...let alone thousands

It all comes down to the amount of images on the page really...if it were just text it wouldn't even be an issue. But you have people with an avatar AND and signature picture...sometimes more than one. That's really what kills it

and then obviously people posting 500K previews...

if the limit is at 50, most threads will be tops 2 pages.

And really, scrolling down a thread with a 100 posts per page with almost every post having a signature picture taking more space than the text in it is more annoying than clicking on a little number that will take you to another page that loads quicker

There's a good case for a reduction to 50 topics/posts per page. I'll make a decision within the next few days.

i kinda changed my mind.. 75 sounds better than 50 (and a lot better than 100)

I'm thinking of leaving the number of topics at 100 per page, but changing the number of posts at 50 per page. That way, large threads will load a little quicker, but you'll still be able to find most recent threads on the first page.
