Chicago Ruins Miami Celebration
Tonight was a night of celebration for the Miami Heat, everyone was back from last years team and were presented their 2006 championship ring before a sold out crowd. Someone forgot to tell Miami that they had a game to play tonight against the team they knocked out in the first round of alst years playoffs.
Chicago raced out to an early lead, Ben Gordon instrumental in the first quarter netting 10 of his game high 30 points, knocking back to back three pointers to start a 13-2 run. Chicago shot the lights out from behind the arc, netting 15 threes from 22 attempts, Hinrich hitting 4, Gordon finishing with 6, Nocioni went a perfect 3 from 3 and more noteably Wallaces three with time winding down in the fourth quarter to set up the game winning lead. Tyrus Thomas had a rough night out there in his first NBA game, he could not hit a basket tonight going 0 from 6 from the floor but did score 3 from 3 from the foul line, he did though have an equal team high 5 assists, 7 rebounds and 2 steals before he was fouled out.
Dwyane Wade usually doesnt play well against his former hometown team but had an impressive near triple double of 10 points, 12 assists and 7 rebounds. A fully fit Shaq took the floor tonight and it showed on the stat sheet, taking the game to Wallace on the block he finished with 26 points on 13 for 24 shooting. Gary Payton started for Jason Williams tonight prompting speculation that last years starter is carrying an injury through training camp, Williams played just 7 minutes and finished with 3 points and 2 assists.

After Game Comments
Scott Skiles: We wernt overalled by the occasion of the ring presentation before the game, we stuck to our gameplan and got out to a early lead which we fought to hold on to, credit to Miami, they are the World Champions and theyll be thinking about the missed opportunity tonight.
Pat Riley: We got taken apart on the perimeter, players were to lazy to get out and guard the shooters, and they put us away, we must learn from tonights mistake and hope to improve on them, you saw tonight that if you dont defend then you wont win.
Shaq O'Neal: I thought we had them on the run at the end of the third quarter, we were pressing hard and making good plays, we were only down by a point and hadnt really fired a shot and needed someone to step up, Dwyane[Wade] played great, we would have liked him to have more shots but he was content on finding the open man and it nearly worked.
Ben Gordon: I've been working on my jumper all off season, get my feet set and lengthening my base, and I think it paid off tonight, it's great to start the season with a win over the reigning Champs and it will give everyone in the group confidence and to step up against the other bigger teams in this league.
Tyrus Thomas: I was scared man [laughs] running down the court and you see Shaq and Zo waiting on the block for you, I didn't even wanna go in [laughs] it was a great learning experience there, working with Ben [Wallace] all off season to try and perfect my lower post moves, it didn't come off tonight, I didn't even hit a shot, but we got the win, and you can only build on your last performance so watch out for me in my next game.
