I have to admit it's tempting. I haven't actually bought an MK game since MK4 but I'm definitely considering picking this one up.

Haven't played the MK series in years.
I didn't know Kintaro looks like a tiger freak until now.
Since when did Scorpion get a sword instead of his rope with a spear edge? Lame.
Sub-Zero now looks like Shredder from TMNT.

The game is worth taking a look though, especially if it has my favorite MK character, Kung Lao, in it.

Scorpion still has the Spear. The weapons option was added in MK:Deadly Alliance.

I'm getting this one for sure...Although I am not digging the create a fatality concept..The reason why MK is popular is because of the unique fatalities. By making the fatalities generic you are ruining a big aspect of the game...
Bored.

Well I got the game.

Pros
-SO MANY CHARACTERS!!
-Aerial Kombat is quite neat and not overpowering.
-Just plain old solid MK action.
-Kreate a Kharacter (It's kreate a figher, but I prefer calling it Kreate a Kharacter...) has quite a lot of options...and a lot of street fighter, FF7 and DBZ look-alikes which will surely please those fans (especially street fighter...there are so many faces and outfits that fit the SF series).
-Konquest mode is much better than the old Konquest modes.

Cons
-Motor Kombat = shit.
-The special moves in Kreate a Kharacter are usually moves that an actual MK character has (or so it seems like it) hardly any original moves. So even if your guy looks like Ryu or Ken, you probably won't be able to have the exact same move-set...unless there are some secrets that I don't know of.
-Kreate a Fatality is bad...The fatalities are now easy to do..but they go by so fast and it usually will be boring.
Bored.

Sounds good. I actually went out and picked up the other MK games that are out on PS2 second hand and was very impressed, so I'm thinking I will end up getting this one when it comes out here.

SOunds interesting. If only I could get out of this sports game only mode I would actually give it a try (even though 1 guy said its sucky). I loved it back in the day when groups of me and my buddies used to have tournaments at my house all day and hnight until our fingers started to bleed.

Love the game so far. But Motor Kombat is lame - they should have kept MK Chess.

Kreate-A-Fighter is sweet. I made the original Sub-Zero from MK1.

Picked it up today, it's quite impressive so far. The only downside so far would be the fatalities, I have to say I prefer the old concept of fatalities being character specific.

looks good but a couple questions
1)when the hell did sub zero turn into the shredder from Ninja Turtles?
2) What the hell happened to smoke?
3)is liu kang a zombie? i heard he died in the last one
4)does anyone even attempt to keep track of MK story lines anymore

You just answered your own question.
What the hell happened to smoke?

Went up in smoke.
when the hell did sub zero turn into the shredder from Ninja Turtles?

Licensing issues. The real Sub-Zero refused to appear in the game because the pay was too small, so Shredder was put in the game instead.

lol shadow...Well here's my thing about liu kang though...Johhny Cage-Not a Zombie, Sub Zero-there's like 18 of them but none of them have been ever zombies...just seemed odd for them to bring him back as a zombie character and sort of pisses me off...i miss the MK I and MK II days...when i could follow the plot still

Liu Kang should be given special treatment. He's a past champion of the tournament.
Johnny Cage didn't really die, I think. The developers just removed him from the game then.
Why would you resurrect the 18 other dead Sub-Zeros? They died, it means they suck, and none of them ever won the tournament like Liu Kang did.

Spoilers ahead; don't copy and paste if you don't want to know. You've been warned. ;) Note: None of the spoilers mention endings for Armageddon.

Liu Kang was killed at the beginning of Deadly Alliance as part of Shang Tsung and Quan Chi's plan to eliminate their greatest threat. Johnny Cage's fate has been retconned a couple of times. At first it was said he was killed and during Outworld's invasion (Mortal Kombat Trilogy) his soul rejoined his body and he lived on. Then it was suggested that when it was said he was killed, it referred to him being "killed" at the box office.

There has only been two Sub-Zeroes. The original Sub-Zero (MK1) was killed in revenge by Scorpion and entered the Netherrealm, where he was reborn as Noob Saibot and joined the Brotherhood of the Shadow, who worshipped Shinnok. Noob also found Smoke in the ruins of Shao Kahn's palace and reprogrammed him to join him during the events of Deception since he planned to use Smoke's nanotechnology to create his own army.

Since then, Smoke is back on his own.

The current Sub-Zero, the younger brother of the original, has been the Sub-Zero since MK2. The reason he returned unmasked in the original MK3 was to distinguish himself from his older brother but since then he's also donned a mask from time to time. He has also discovered that his family has descended from an Outworld race known as Cryomancers which explains his freezing ability. After Deadly Alliance, he discovered the armour of his ancestors which he wore as his main costume in Deception. As illini noted the design came out looking a lot like Shredder from TMNT.

illini wrote:4)does anyone even attempt to keep track of MK story lines anymore

It's difficult at times because they've retconned so many of the character's history and tournament outcomes but the storyline is still there and does make sense once it's pieced together. The thing is, with so many endings that conflict with one another you have to wait until a new game comes out so that you know which events are canon and which ones were just possible outcomes.

Cage died in MK3, killed by Shao Khan's extermination squads. They brought him back to life in MKT.

There've only been two Sub-Zeroes. Sub-Zero I was killed by Scorpion in MKI. Sub-Zero II(the younger brother) has been in every MK since then.
