your favourite basketball move?

Fri Aug 01, 2003 6:33 pm

what's your favourite move to use during games -- like which ones work best for you and such?

even though i dont really play in the post that much except when a smaller person is guarding me i like to post up my defender until i'm about perpendicular and 3 feet away from the basket, do a quick spin move to the right and lay it in off the backboard.. its a great move..

another move i like to use is the post up.. pump fake.. step through -> bankshot..

whats yours?

I used to like going baseline under the backboard, stepping back and laying it in. Not only does it allow for a high percentage shot, it's easy to draw contact for a three point play (or two free throws as the case may be ). Simple, but effective.

facing up a defender crossing him to the left with the right hand but swish the ball to the right side. When this is done perfectly with a little body faking involved, the defender goes left while I go right!!!

Fri Aug 01, 2003 10:43 pm

yeah i use the play Finnboy just mentioned above
both of us know that it's a great and really effective move the leaves the defender in the dust

well, i'm a SG (played PG before) but i actually would prefer to be a PF. I just love rebounding, playing post defence, posting up and shotblocking.........so, one of my fav moves is posting up, spinning to the baseline and a fadeaway J.........don't use it in games though cos i never get the chance, i do in street ball though

My favourite would be the simple jab right, then go hard left move. Simplest of moves and pretty effective and I use it all the time. Then after a while, you jab right, hesitate for a second, then take it hard right. After that the defence has no idea whether you're going left or right... Ofcourse it's not going to work on pretty good defenders.

This one I haven't done in a game, but like doing when I'm playing pick up ball: as I approach the defender sort of walking the ball towards him, bring it through the legs from left to right and take a quick step to the right with my right leg. This creates enough space between my legs to dribble the ball back to where I brought it from (basically reverse the dribble), only I'm moving forward pretty quickly now because I used my right foot and pushed off it in the other direction. I guess this is another one of those where you get the whole body into the move and the defender thinks you're going one way (and you are for a split sec) while you go the other.

There's one move I've been using a lot lately but I don't know what to call it. It's basically faking a crossover. It works well because it freezes the defence, and a lot of time while they're back pedaling. Simple but effective (y)

I'd have to go with the crossover too. It's a lot of fun to blow past your defender and score an easy two.

my MJ fadeaway and Kareem hookshot work pretty well for me. (Y)

Sat Aug 02, 2003 1:11 am

gotta love the MJ Fadeaway (y) I just hate to see people butcher it, much like with crossovers or any kind of move.

Pavel told me his favourite move is the John Stockton pick up the soap move! :P

Sat Aug 02, 2003 2:36 am

my move hmmmm....shake the defender with crossover ,fake the shot and 3 pointer in your face!!!!i am good shooter, very good.

my favourite move is windmill dunk too!i use it very often.

Jab step. One of the most important moves in basketball for the beginning of the MJ Fadeaway. I love the Iverson jab and pull up, which is a move I tend to use a lot.

Sat Aug 02, 2003 4:52 am

one of my favs is post up my man on the left(from looking to the net)and than bounce the ball than fake to the left with out the ball than grab the ball than spin to the right and go for the easy layup. it has worked every single time i have done except once.

another one is, i think someone mentioned it, is fake a crossover with your right hand than drive right. very effective.

another is my fadeaway, it is kinda like MJ fadeaway but i do somethings differently and have made it my own

Sat Aug 02, 2003 6:18 am

how do you guys set up for the MJ fadeaway? i don't really try attempting that move because it seems like you need lots of arm strength to do that.. which i don't have.. i can do the turn around jump though.. post up.. fake left, turn right, swish

Sat Aug 02, 2003 6:43 am

I forgot one more move: the step back 3 pointer like Reggie Miller. Very difficult to block and quite effective if you practice it right and enough times.

Sat Aug 02, 2003 7:12 am

oh ya, i used to always do that, but now i consentrate on taking my man of hte dribble more now.

I think that's one of the best feelings in the world. Crossing over your defender and blowing past him for two. :)

Sat Aug 02, 2003 10:10 am

i actually do the step back move a lot.. not the 3 pointer though.. just the long J.. its a good move if youre quick.. kinda like peja..

Sat Aug 02, 2003 2:47 pm

Well I am 5'3 and I can dunk, nothing nasty just a basic one hander, but that aint my fav..

Other than my patented move(I get close 2 da defender, but the abll on his back, grab the bottom of his shirt lift it over his head with the ball in his shirt, swing the shirt & ball above my head 3 or 4 times, then bring it down and thorw the ball & shirt between my defenders legs and rive for the layup.) I love when a defender thinks he can house me anda rise up and slam his shot or layup back... I love that.

Drive on full-spead to the hole, then while I make a jumpstop I dribble the ball from my right hand to my left behind the back, the defender still is in the motion of defending the bucket while I have created space for a open jumper

Sat Aug 02, 2003 10:20 pm

you are 5'3" and can dunk? what is your vert?

i don't know why but i can hit the mj fadeaway, but it not like i have lots of upper body strength

Sun Aug 03, 2003 1:14 am

windmill dunk rulez!

thats a nice move.. i use a variation of that.. i go from my left to the right while doing the jumpstop.. and throw in a high arching layup.. i've been told it looks pretty sweet too.. should try it out :)

I haven't taken my vert in 2 years. Last time I took it was at some Sports bonanza at the Ben Franklin Museum in Philly. It was like 41, but I couldn't even dunk then, rim blocks all day.
