LAKERS PRESEASON SCHEDULE RELEASED

Image
Kobe will be starting where he left off - against Raja Bell and the Suns.

EL SEGUNDO-The Los Angeles Lakers have released their 5-game preseason schedule, which will be the tuneup before the season gets started. The Lakers will field their 15-man roster, and coach Phil Jackson will work out his rotations.

"We will also work out some of our prospects," the Lakers coach said. "We will see if they are deserving of a roster spot, or if they have to be sent down to the D-Fenders for development, or a spot on the Lakers at all. We will also be looking at free agents."

The Lakers will open their preseason against the Phoenix Suns at STAPLES Center, then go on to play the Wizards, the Los Angeles Clippers, the San Antonio Spurs and the New Orleans-Oklahoma City Hornets.

Schedule
vs. Phoenix Suns
@ Washington Wizards
vs. Los Angeles Clippers
vs. San Antonio Spurs
vs. New Orleans-Oklahoma City Hornets

BEHIND THE SCENES Part 1: The Beginning

34-48.

45-37.

3-1.

4-3.

24.

29.

These numbers were going through Kobe Bryant’s head as he drove up the Interstate 405 to the Toyota Training Center in El Segundo.

Two years ago, everyone was against him. His rape charges were dropped. Phil Jackson retired. Shaquille O’Neal was traded to the Miami Heat. Kobe was accused of orchestrating this trade. Lamar Odom arrived. Rudy-T was hired, then stepped down at midseason. Bryant and Odom couldn’t mesh. The Lakers finished 34-48. They missed the playoffs. All eyes were on Kobe Bryant.

The Lakers organization felt like they needed change. Phil Jackson was brought back. Kobe was silent. Phil was silent. The Lakers were silent. No impact on the season, no jabs in the media. Then everyone started talking. Kobe Bryant scored 62 in 3 quarters. Kobe Bryant scored 81 a month later. Shaquille O’Neal made peace with Kobe. The Lakers beat Detroit. The Lakers beat San Antonio. The Lakers went on a very strong stretch run. They finished 45-37 on the season, earning the 7th seed. They were back in the playoffs.

Kobe started passing. The Lakers started winning. They were up 3-1 against the Suns. But then, he stopped shooting, and kept on passing. The Suns beat the Lakers 4-3, eliminating them from the playoffs. All eyes were on him again.

Then the number change. 24. It raised some eyebrows, started rumors. But only Kobe knew the reason.

Then came now.

The new season. 29 games long. Such a short time to make up a lot of ground.

As Kobe entered the training center to start his running drills, the first he’s going to be running after his offseason knee surgery, he thought of all these things.

“Forget about them,” a voice said.

It was Phil Jackson.

“Focus on now, what’s coming ahead,” he continued.

“You think I’m not doing that?” Kobe said with a grin. “We gonna be rollin’ soon.”

Training camp was fast approaching. Right now, that’s all that mattered.

Welcome to another season of Lakers basketball.

Poll: WHO MUST PROVIDE KOBE BRYANT WITH THE MOST SUPPORT?

LOS ANGELES-With the NBA Preseason and Training Camp nearing, the Lakers cable network FSN West as well as FSN Prime Ticket have started a poll with the question: Who must play a big role in order for LA to make the playoffs?

Image
Who will support Kobe's high-wire act?

Last season, Bryant averaged 35.4 points per game, seemingly having to do it all alone. In the playoffs, his teammates got more involved, and the Lakers were able to take the Phoenix Suns to 7 games before eventually losing.

Feel free to make your choice, and leave some comments if you like, and we will see if your choice will really provide significant contributions once the season starts.

CHOICES:

LAMAR ODOM

Radmanovic needs to assert himself as a premier Sf or a shooting PF. If Odom starts at Power Forawrd, Radmanovic could dominate teh small forward position and they needed a shooter and radmanovic needs improve his defensive a lot.

I think you should start Walton. Although I'm not a fan of Walton, I don't like how soft Vlad is.

i used to start walton back in 06..but he ended up producing little..but his defense was great..never really used Vlad before..

haha...well he would be on the team nonetheless..

I find it hard to see which starting lineup the Lakers will/should use.

I like Odom at SF still so I would lean towards a lineup of:

C:Kawme
PF:Walton/Radmonvic (I like Walton simply because of his hustle and the way he played in the playoffs)
SF:Odom
SG:KB24
PG:Smush

That way if you start Walton you have some good outside scoring coming off the bench for when Odom, Kobe and Smush are cold, or if you start Radman you have some really good hustle from Walton off the bench.

In either case I would usually have Odom marking the opposing teams PF and the other on the SF, although if its Radman you might want him on the PF is the SF is exceptionally quicker than him.
