Plus these so-called "Knicks" are a bunch of wanna-be stars.

the knicks is the 2004 lakers minus the superstars and plus more headcases..... how do you compare a team that went 56-26 to one that got the 2nd pick in the lottery this year

was that directed at me? i said the knicks are trying to put together a team for of so called "stars" and so far, failing miserably, those lakers had a couple of minor disputes, the knicks are far worse

what will jeffries bring to the table in New York? nothing, NY already have a cesspool of talent that just needs to be awaken. Isiah should have worked with what he already has instead of screwing the cap even more

Hey Amp, that's some front line the Knicks will have - Curry, Frye & Jeffries.

Did I hear the word SOFT?

Look up soft teams in the dictionary and you get this Knicks team.

It's horribly constructed.

Maybe the team's failure will help if tickets ever stop selling, Dolan will have to sell the team and the new management will get rid of Isaiah.

Well, it's a thought.

Webber to NY is still possible..
Chris Webber, still hampered by the aftermath of microfracture knee surgery at 33, is due more than $42 million over the next two seasons -- a perfect fit for the Knicks' seemingly infinite budget.

The five-time All-Star could also fit the win-or-else mandate president/coach Isiah Thomas faces this season, but initial discussions haven't produced a fit to send Webber to New York.

Still, the 76ers have approached the Knicks (and anyone else willing to listen) about Webber, league sources say, but weren't offered enough to make the kind of deal they've sought to shake up things this summer after several Allen Iverson scenarios fell through.

The package offered by Thomas, who is on vacation this week and could not be reached Tuesday, starts with Quentin Richardson (with his back issues and $33.8 million over four seasons left on his contract) and Maurice Taylor (whose $9.75 million contract expires after this season).

For the necessary salary-cap match, the Knicks would have to send more to Philadelphia to take on the $20 million Webber makes next season. So they'd likely try to include another albatross salary, such as the two years and $13.7 million owed to Philadelphia native Malik Rose or the four years and $24 million still due to Jerome James.

Webber-to-the-Knicks talk, however, is nothing new as he's been on their radar screen since before he re-signed as a free agent with Sacramento five years ago.

Last season, he averaged 20.2 points and 9.9 rebounds in 75 games as the Sixers failed to make the playoffs in his and Iverson's first full season together. Thus, team president Billy King has vowed to change the Sixers' culture.

He couldn't complete deals that would have sent Iverson to Boston, Denver or Atlanta, so now he's looking to move Webber, who turns 34 in March. And although Webber's knee severely limits his mobility, in New York he would join Eddy Curry and Channing Frye in a three-man rotation at power forward and center.

If the Sixers and Knicks can make a match, that is, or King can't find a better offer elsewhere.

ummm i guess its ok if we could get Jerome James to go in the package.. we giving up a bunch of unneeded players for a big contract that'll expire after next year. Its not like its a 5 yr contract he last remaining..

i dont know what to think about the trade........we dont need another scorer, but he is a good passer, but he also cant play defense and thats what we need in the paint........i really wouldnt care if they made the trade or not, because he is a good player and he does play team basketball.......its a win-win situation...

I wonder why that trade didn't bite??? Because it bit wind... C'mon... That's just embarrassing for Isaiah. Giving up basically nothing for a fading star... Webber is still better than Rose, Richardson, Taylor and James combined...

Knicks would undoubtly pull the trigger on that trade in a heart beat, but what does it do for the Sixers... Absolutely nothing... They get a bunch of "has-been" big bodies...

If I were King, I'd demand Rose and a tradeable contract (Q, if he's healthy) and possibly someone like Lee. And getting Webber would hurt NY badly. He'd demand starting spot and would only take away playing time from Frye. If you think Philly's D was bad because of Webber, what would a lineup of Curry-Webber-Jeffries-Francis-Marbury play like? Jeffries is the only one who plays at least above average defense.

Webber wasn't absolutely pathetic last season, he could still do 20-10.

Philly's trying to get rid of him anyway, after he and Iverson showed up late on Fan Appreciation Night.

That wouldn't be a bad deal for New York at all. That's not to say it's a deal that would propel them to contender status or even ensure a playoff appearance though, so I guess you could question whether it be worth making (Webber's contract coming off the books would still leave a huge payroll). However, I can't see Philly wanting to do that deal. Webber can still command a better deal in return than that and if they were to take on lesser players they'd likely want them to have expiring contracts.
