After losing on a buzzer beater to Maccabi, the Armani Jeans team came back in full confidence, ready to prove themselves again. Their matchup against Benetton Treviso of Treviso, Italy wasn’t going to be any easier; however Armani Jeans will be looking to exact some revenge for what happened the previous night.

Starting point guard Sam Anurak sustained an injury the previous game against Maccabi, and though he will be able to play, he was pulled from the starting lineup; in his place will start backup guard Jing Xu. Anurak’s injury is being called a strained right shoulder, and he’ll probably be affected by this for about 5 days to a week.

Benetton started off the game with a three pointer, but Armani Jeans answered right back with two jumpers to put themselves up. Benetton point guard Drew Nicholas was on fire, scoring with three pointers and penetrating layups. Andrea Bargnani also made has presence felt with several put-back dunks and fadeaway jumpers.

With only 2:09 left in the first quarter, Benetton forward Uros Sloakar tried to take a charge on Ben Branch, and took a hit to his arm; it appears he was favoring his left arm. However less than a minute later, Armani Jeans suffered their own loss as Ben Branch received his third foul with only 1:25 left in the first quarter, and had to be substituted out. By the end of the quarter Benetton had opened up a 33-27 lead on Armani Jeans.

The second quarter did not start out well for Armani Jeans. Since Will Sit is not a strong presence down low, he couldn’t do much against Andrea Bargnani. Within two minutes Benetton opened their lead to ten points, 39-29. Everytime Armani Jeans managed to score, either Nicholas or Bargnani managed to score one right back. However at this point Anurak entered the game for the first time, and instantly took over. He scored 6 quick points and Armani Jeans was right back in the game. Along with Anurak, center Andrew Watson came alive as well. Watson began taking over the offensive boards. Him and Anurak led the attack and before anyone knew it, they were up 57-55. From this point forward Armani Jeans never trailed again. Watson alone scored 14 points in the second quarter.

Headed into halftime, Armani Jeans had a 65-61 advantage on Benetton. Watson was the Player at the Half for Milano with 14 points and 6 rebounds, while Nicholas had 17 points and 5 assists; however he also had a team high 8 turnovers already, along with 4 fouls. Being one of his team’s strongest players, he will most likely not be able to play until near the end of the game.

The second half started off brilliantly for the guys in red as they started the half on a 10-0 run, dictated by two huge Sam Anurak dunks and two straight Andrew Watson blocks. Andrea Bargnani tried to carry the team by himself, but one vs. five just won’t do. As the quarter went on, Milano kept scoring while grabbing Benetton’s misses. The end of the quarter finally came, but the damage was already done. Milano had scored a ridiclious, almost unheard of, 104 points by the end of the third quarter; Benetton had 90.

With the game seemingly in hand, Armani Jeans brought on some of their younger and developing players, namely inexperienced Pui Lam, and fourteen year olds Alex Buckley and Ivan Shchipansky. The youngsters got some good playing time, but they didn’t do too much. With the game out of reach, Ben Branch came back into the game, where he and Andrew Watson put on a offensive rebounding and inside scoring showcase. At the 2:09 mark, when the score was 131-113 Armani Jeans, Andrea Bargnani finally fouled out, leaving Benetton with no more impact players.

Finally the buzzer rang, signaling the end of the game. Armani Jeans had more than shown they could survive in Euroleague, they’ve shown they could possibly become even a championship contender. The final score showed 144-123. Andrew Watson had almost achieved a quadruple-double. His final line was 29 points, 13 rebounds, 8 assists, and a career high 9 blocks. This brings Armani Jean’s record to 1-1 and hands Benetton an opening game loss.


Game Notes

- This second game both teams combined for 99 rebounds, with Armani winning by 1 board.
- Milano shot even worse from downtown, going 3-21 (14.3%). Benetton was slightly better at 5-24 (20.8%).
- Milano committed 24 fouls to Benetton’s 29. Milano had three players with four fouls, while Bargnani, Slskauskas, and Nicholas fouled out.
- Milano attempted an incredible 49 shots from the line, making 39 of them for 79.6%. Benetton went 18-28 for 64.3%.
- Armani Jeans Milano out-assisted Benetton 37-21. They also out-blocked them 10-2; 9 of those belonged to Watson.

Elan Bearnais Absolutely No Match For Armani Jeans

After the gigantic win against powerhouse Benetton Treviso, Armani Jeans took a two day vacation before traveling to Pau, France, for a game against the Elan Bearnais Pau-Orthez. This is also the first game that Diego Fajardo will be facing his former club.

The game started brilliantly for Armani Jeans, who went on a 13-2 scoring run. What was worse for Elan Bearnais was that during this run Fajardo picked up three fouls, having to be replaced right away. Finally Elan Bearnais started to score, and but Armani Jeans didn’t slow down either. Both scored 7 points in the next two minutes to put the score at 21-9 with still 5:48 left in the first. By the time the quarter ended, Armani Jeans was more than comfortably in the lead, 37-23.

The second quarter’s pace was even faster than the first. Elan Bearnis managed to even the scoring, with both teams scoring 34 points. By the time the quarter ended, it was Armani Jeans 71, Elan Bearnais only 57. Ben Branch nearly had a double-double with 20 points and 9 rebounds; Loonie Cooper had 13 points and 5 assists for the other side.

Despite having such a ridiculous lead already, Armani Jeans didn’t slow down at all, and continued their offensive barrage. It was 83-69 by the 6:32 mark and Diego Fajardo got his fourth foul at the 26.8 second mark, when his team was already down 102-82; keep in mind that the game is still in the third quarter.

Again with the game out of reach, Armani Jeans put in their youngsters in to the game. Center Andrew Watson was the only starter remaining in the game. Due to the inexperience of the younger players, Elan Bearnais slowly begun to catch up; they were so far back however that it didn’t really matter. In the end Diego Fajardo fouled out with 1.9 seconds left in the game… what a great way to end a horrible game.

Finally the game ended. The Armani Jeans played walked to the visitor’s locker room laughing and patting each other on the back while Elan Bearnais and their fans walked out with their heads down. Ben Branch was named POTG with 30 points and 13 rebounds. Small Forward Jon Smith managed 8 assists. For Elan Bearnais, their only star was Artur Drozdov, who scored 30 points; shooting guard Lonnie Cooper had 28 points and 10 assists; Alvin Sims grabbed 10 rebounds for his side.


Game Notes

- Armani Milano again outrebounded their opponent, 49-48.
- Armani Jeans had an assist advantage of 31-30.
- AJM shot significantly better from downtown. They shot 8-24 (33.3%), while holding Elan Bearnais to 6-24 (25%) shooting.

Will Sit has career game against Efen Pilsen

With several days of rest, point guard Sam Anurak completely healed from his shoulder injury and was inserted back into the lineup; Jing Xu returned to his spot as the 7th man. Their next opponent was Efes Pilsen of Istanbul, Turkey, who had a 0-1 record compared to Armani Jean’s 2-1.

Efes Pilsen showed their power by going up 11-7 and drawing a foul on Ben Branch right away; Branch has been in foul trouble the several past couple games. It was 20-12 before Armani Jeans finally came alive and Branch took the game into his own hands. In a matter of 30 seconds Armani Jeans scored 7 points while Efen Pilsen only scored 2. While Branch took over the scoring, Andrew Watson cleaned the boards, grabbing 8 in the first quarter alone. 35-28 was the score by the time the quarter ended.

Armani Jeans continued their onslaught as they expanded their lead to 44-34; however as soon as they got their lead, Efen Pilsen scored 6 points in a row. One on play, Sam Anurak ran over an Efes Pilsen player, and no charge was called. The crowd erupted in madness and the game had to be delayed in case of riot. Once the crowd calmed, the game continued and the teams traded baskets until the end of the quarter. They were only up by one point, 66-65. Domercant was the player of the half for Efen Pisen with 24 points while Will Sit came off the bench to score 13 points and grab 5 rebounds.

Armani Jeans tried to run away with the game, but Efen Pilsen kept on pushing back; the deficit more never more than 2 or 3 field goals. Will Sit continued his hot shooting, scoring 10 points in the quarter, while Domercant scored 10 more points as well.

The last quarter showed the tired and weary Efen Pilsen completely falling apart defensively, allowing Armani Jeans to open up a huge 15 point lead. Forward Ben Branch managed to foul out yet again, with the game at 130-117 with 2:01 left. Whenever Efen Pilsen tried to come back, Armani Jeans managed to hold them off. The teams walked off the court and Armani Jeans on top, 136-122.

Backup forward Will Sit was named the POTG, he came off the bench to score 31 points and grabbed 12 boards. He also shot a season high 5-8 from downtown.


Game Notes

- There were 104 rebounds; Armani Jeans grabbed 53 of them.
- Armani Jeans out-assisted Efen Pilsen 26-17.
- Armani Jeans shot the same as they did last game, going 8-24 from downtown, for 33.3% again. Efen Pilsen shot horrible, only 1-19 for 5.3%.
