Sasha Djordjevic Finally Introduces the Future of Olimpia Milano Basketball

Milan – “Today is the day we, or rather you, have been waiting for, the introduction of your new Olimpia Milano basketball team. As you already know, our major owner, Mr. Giorgio Armani, was here with me several days ago to announce this movement in the franchise. Mr. Armani is the main owner, with Mr. Adriano Gallani (president of the A.C. Milan football team), and Massimo Moratti (vice president of Internazionale), as well as our anonymous owner. However none of our owners could be here today, therefore I shall be the ones introducing the players.”

I’ll be introducing the players by alphabetical order, the first player will be:



Name: Sam Anurak (Sam.)
Nationality: Thai (but lives in Canada)
Experience: Massey High School, Nike All-Canada Camp.
Coach’s Note: Sam will most likely start as the staring point guard for us. He starred at Nike All-Canada Camp and was one of the best players in his entire region. He will wear #28.



Name: Ben Branch (Dragon)
Nationality: Australian
Experience: Platinum Playaz
Coach’s Note: One of the most experienced, and older players and will certainly turn into a leader and impact player right away. Ben led his Playaz to the club championship in Australia, and will hopefully bring the leadership he showed there. He will wear #6, a number he’s been wearing all his life.



Name: Alex Buckley (cwebbiverson)
Nationality: American
Experience: N/A
Coach’s Note: One of two fourteen year old players n the team, but shows great potential. He plays like his idol Allen Iverson, dashing down the court with superb passing and penetrating layups. Due to his age and lack of upper body strength he will most likely be at the end of the lineup for development. Will of course wear #3 in honor of his idol Iverson.



Name: Conrad Burry (c0nrad)
Nationality: American
Experience: Tennessee
Coach’s Note: An walk-on at the University of Tennessee, Conrad never really got much playing time, but he has great determination and leadership. His will seemed shattered and he no longer wanted to play basketball after he broke up with his girlfriend. His love for the game soon returned when he got word he could have a professional career here with us; he truly impressed us when we first met all the players. I believe he will be an important player, most likely off the bench in the beginning of the season.



Name: Pui Lam (Cloudy)
Nationality: Chinese/Cantonese (Living in Thailand)
Experience: N/A
Coach’s Note: Lam was discovered off the streets of Thailand, where he was currently going to school. His superb jumping ability and energy made it so that we couldn’t let him go. He is still very raw in terms of his pull-up jump shot and overall professional game experience. His style of play brings back memories of a certain NBA player who also wore #10.



Name: Mark Moore (Mark)
Nationality: New Zealand
Experience: Otago University
Coach’s Note: Moore is the definition of a scorer. He has a variety of moves in his arsenal that make him literally unstoppable. First of all he has a deadly shot from anywhere within 35 feet, and his ability to go inside-outside provides an even bigger threat to the defense. However he needs to learn when to pass the ball.



Name: Ivan Shchipansky (Anthony15)
Nationality: Russian (Living in USA)
Experience: N/A
Coach’s Note: Ivan is the other 14 year old player on the team. He and Buckley will be the ones who will be at the end of the bench, learning from players like Shumpert, Branch, and the other more experienced players. Ivan is a superb shooter, much like Peja Stojakovic. He is the only lefty on the team, and when he does play, he can provide some mismatches.



Name: Will Sit (Sit)
Nationality: Australian-Chinese
Experience: Fakers, Queensland University
Coach’s Note: Sam hails from the same city as Ben Branch, and the two have played against each other many times, with Branch having the upper hand. Sit is a 7’0 tall small forward, also reminding scouts of Peja Stojakovic. Sit is strictly a pure shooting, with not many skills in other fields. Due to this Sit will probably be regulated to near the bottom of the bench. There have been many Euroleague players who can only shoot, but that was back then, and in this newer league players need to not only now how to shoot, but also drive and dribble, something Sit is not totally capable of yet.



Name: Jon Smith (JaoSming11)
Nationality: American
Experience: Vermont Tech, UMass-Amherst
Coach’s Note: Jon is not a particular tall forward, but at 6’5 he is able to out-muscle and out-jump his opponents. His experience at VT and UMass is critical, because they are both teams that have produced players who have played in the NBA, NBDL, as well as other International leagues, especially Euroleague. Jao will most likely start at small forward; he will wear the number he wore at VT, #22.



Name: Andrew Watson (The X)
Nationality: New Zealand
Experience: Celtics (New Zealand)
Coach’s Note: Watson is the oldest player on the team, and he is another candidate for the captains logo. His club team was the best in New Zealand, and Watson was the Ben Branch of his team. Watson is a bit slow, but he has a very good shooting touch from within 20 feet and his ability to pass the ball is great for a big man.



Name: Jing Xu (Jing)
Nationality: Chinese (Living in America)
Experience: High School, Zoodisc Ultimate
Coach’s Note: Xu will be one of the mental leaders on the team. When the team is down, or when someone needs to speak up, people will look to Xu. Xu credits basketball for keeping him in America, without it, he says he would have returned to China long ago. Xu played until sophomore year in high school, when he was cut from the team. He turned to alternative sports such as Cross Country and Ultimate Frisbee, which improved his stamina and decision making greatly. His position in Ultimate is handler, which is the equivalent of a point guard in basketball, and that is indeed what he will play the most. He will wear the number of fellow Chinamen, Yao Ming.

Now these are all the new players that will represent the face of our basketball club. We hope these players will propel our record higher than it was last season, where we finished near the bottom of the Euroleague at 5-9. We played well in the Italian League, but to go further, we must train harder and before. We hope our new players will bring the same strong mentality they brought to their individual teams before they came here.

Arnold's Buzzer Beater Saves Maccabi

For their debut game, the new players on Milano could not have drawn a more difficult opponent than two-time defending Euroleague champs Maccabi Tel-Aviv. However there is a silver lining in all this: if they can perform well as Maccabi, they can prove to all the doubters they were worth splitting up the previous team. The stadium was packed as everyone wanted to see the new guys play basketball.

Armani Jeans got off to a very quick start, winning the tip, and dishing it to power forward Ben Branch for a thunderous dunk over Maccabi star Anthony Parker. This play instantly got the entire crowd on their feet. They were looking at a great start to a promising season. Branch thwarted Maccabi’s next several chances down on the defensive end; in fact, he scored the teams first 6 points and Armani Jeans jumped to a 6-0 lead. However at this point Maccabi’s Parker came to life, instantly answering with 6 points of his own. Parker simply played lights out, as he proceeded to score 10 more points in the next 3 minutes on a variety of pull-up jumpers, dunks, and putbacks. Throughout the quarter Maccabi managed to hold on to a slim three point lead, and the first quarter ended so, with them up 33-30. Anthony Parker had scored 20 points while Branch had 13.

The second quarter started off badly for Armani Jeans, Andrew Watson and Ben Branch both picked up their third fouls, thus had to be replaced by Will Sit and Conrad Burry. In the big men’s absence Parker took over, pushing Maccabi’s lead to ten, 53-43. But as quick as they got their lead it disappeared. Branch and Watson came back into the game, and after drawing a fourth foul on Maccabi forward Yaniv Green, Armani Jeans went on a run of their own, cultivating with a made 15 footer by Branch at the halftime buzzer to put Milano up 58-57. Anthony Parker led all scores at the half with an astounding 32 points. Branch paved the way with 17 points and 7 rebounds in limit time due to foul trouble.

Throughout the third quarter Armani Jeans managed to hold on to their slim, one point lead. The quarter ended with the score of 89-88 Armani. Anthony Parker had increased his scoring to 43 points while Marco Baston had grabbed 17 rebounds. Branch led his own attack with 21 points and 10 rebounds.

The striking blow came for Armani Jeans when Branch drove into the lane, but was whistled for his fifth and final foul with 8:14 left in the last quarter, and the game tied 93-93. Soon after his pal in the middle, Watson, fouled out as well, leaving their team depleted in the lane. Due to this small forward Jon Smith, at 6’5, and backup forward Sit, at 7’0, were pushed into placing them. Anthony Parker took advantage of this to score his 50th point at the 6:53 mark, as well as putting Maccabi up 101-99. His counterpart on Armani Jeans, Mark Moore, wasn’t doing has hot. Up to that point Moore only had 4 points and 3 assists, and had twice as many turnovers as Parker. Yet another blow was dealt to Armani Jeans when starting point guard Sam Anurak, who took over the scoring after Branch fouled out, was injured in a collision with Parker under the basket. Anurak came off the court grabbing his back. Up till now, there has been no news on his injury status. Due to this, fourteen year old Alex Buckley was brought in to shoot the free throws, however he missed both. With 1:21 left on the clock, Buckley drained a three, and on the inbounds, Mark stole the ball and scored, putting the team up 120-118 and less than a minute left. Anthony Parker brought the ball down the court, eager to score, but Will Sit sacrificed his body and took a charge, sending Parker off with his last foul. With the ball and only 1.1 seconds left, Armani Jeans could not make the shot, and the game went into overtime with the teams tied at 123. Just think, the first game of the season may turn out to be the most exciting game of the season.

Overtime did not help the foul cause that happened during this game. Will Sit fouled out just a minute into the overtime, and on the following possession, Maccabi forward Green finally picked up his fifth foul. With the score at 137 and 136, Armani Jeans had a 137-136 advantage, and tried to run out the clock, but the game clock and shot clock had a one second difference, and in trying to run the clock out, Burry did not manage to get a shot off in time, getting called for a shot clock vacation. Jamie Arnold, an American forward on Maccabi, caught the hail-mary pass under the Armani Jeans hoop and tossed up a shot just as time expired. The shot swished over the shorter Preston Shumpert’s hands and swished in, sending the defending champs to another win.

Despite this loss, Armani Jeans’ new players proved to everyone that they can handle even the toughest of competition. They even almost beat defending champs Maccabi.


Game Notes

- The teams combined for 121 rebounds, with 61 of them belonging to Armani Jeans.
- Neither team shot well from downtown; with Armani Jeans shooting 19.2% while Maccabi shooting 19.0%.
- There were a combined 64 fouls in the game. Armani Jeans committed 28 fouls while Maccabi fouled 36 times.
- 8 players fouled out total. Andrew Watson, Ben Branch, and Will Sit for Armani Jeans Milano. Marco Baston, Tal Burstein, Anthony Parker, Will Solomon, and Yaniv Green for Maccabi Tel–Aviv.
- Armani Jeans shot only 58.3% from the free throw line.

I just noticed you're playing the 2005/2006 season, not 2006/2007: Well, I just wanted to say that in 2005 the coach wasn't Djordjevic but Lino Lardo. Sasha Djordjevic replaced Lardo in January I believe.
Anyways, tough loss, but Maccabi is the greatest team in Euroleague along with TAU so I think it's a pretty good result after all.

sadly yeah.. I noticed that the coaches were different, but that was after I had played this game... and since I've written so much.... i will not bother to change it. I mean, if the players are so different, why can't the coach be.
