news from hoopshype

The Bucks have verbally agreed to deal Jamaal Magloire to the Trail Blazers for Steve Blake, Brian Skinner and Ha Seung-Jin, according to the Racine Journal-Times

I dont understand this move, is it to get more depth? I thought the Bucks would be able to get a solid player with Magloire, not 3 bench warmers. None of the players the bucks are getting are going to be that good. Plus why get Blake when you have Williams, Bell, and Greer. I dont think Skinner or Seung-Jin will be as good as magloire was for the bucks. At least skinner brings some shot blocking ability to the bucks.

From what i hear, the Bucks were desperate to get rid of Magloire. And this deal was initiated by the Bucks. I also don't understand this deal.

Trailblazers have Aldridge, Przybilla, LaFrentz, Randolph.
Maybe Trailblazers are planning on another deal.

And the Bucks don't gain anything from this, except more players.

Looks like this one bad season is going to be followed by a pretty good one in Portland.

Maybe they're planning to deal Randolph? He was complaining a lot during the season.

You can't get much for Magloire because he's an expiring contract...no team will give up very much because he can walk after next season unrestricted.

Considering he's gone after this season, and the main role of big men in Milwaukee is to set up the shooters & rebound, Skinner will probably do just as well. Might even get a few more blocked shots than Magloire.

I agree it makes no sense for Portland...but we've all been saying that about everything Portland does for years.

lol have fun with your dreams.... the only way bucks win the championship is if kukoc becomes about 7yrs younger, bogut magically transforms into kareem abdul-jabbar and michael redd turns into oscar robertson..... other than that, they won't win until hell freezes over
PPL r a little feisty these days:D

I don't think its too bad of a deal for Portland. Magloire IS an expiring contract and he'll provide some temporary relief in the middle.

Aldridge, LaFrentz and Randolph aren't really centres anyway

Skinner is overpaid, Blake is an ok player, but Portland already has enough guards and Ha isn't going to amount to much of anything juding by how he's played so far, so I don't think the Blazers give away too much.

The only way Kukoc will ever get 6th man is if he doesn't turn the ball over 98023984093 times per game. Watching him handle the ball got pretty embarassing sometimes last season.

Terrible deal, it's essentially Steve Blake for Magloire because Skinner is rubbish. Ha will be cut I'd assume. Larry Harris said he wasn't going to just give Magloire away, so god knows what he calls this.

Telfair is on the Celtics brother.

Anyway horrible trade and the only thing I'd hoped to see in this thread were the new jerseys anyway.

I hate to be the one to break it to you, but your "homeboy" blows monkey turd now. He'll still be a decent role player if you give him a couple of minutes here and there, but his age has caught up with him and he can't do anything but shoot anymore.

Larry Harris has already said that all the free agents left aren't going to be resigned. That means Toni Kukoc won't be playing for the Bucks this season.

It is also likely that Ha will be cut to make room for another swingman, as all the SF backups have no nba experience (Ilyasova, Noel, Markota), and Noel and Markota may spend some time in the D-league. The other possibility is if Skinner is fit, then Joe Smith may be traded for a decent SF, as Joe Smith is still a decent PF (expecially off the bench) with solid leadership skills and is an expiraring contract. The folks on Realgm are also considering the likely hood that Mo Williams may be traded for a SF, allowing Blake to start and provide the extra defence and offensive efficiency that this team requires, while not taking very many shots.

Its a bit dissapointing knowing the Bucks gave up Desmond Mason, and their first round pick who could have been someone like Ager, Shannon Brown, Douby, Marcus Williams, Carney, Rondo, or even Lowry, all that for Magloire, and now they give up Magloire for Blake, Skinner, and Ha. I started to think this guy was a really good GM, but selecting Bogut didnt take half a brain, but the Ford/Charlie V was a great deal. I dont like this deal, and the Bucks would have been better off not trading mason and the pick for Magloire. But its easy to sit here and talk about it now after all this has happened.

For some reason after being traded Blake has suddenly turnt into this great player. He couldn't even hold down a starting spot in Portland, Charlie Bell is better than him at the moment.

I guess this means the Pacers didn't make a real run at Magloire. Jackson or Tinsley is better then this shit.

While the trade hasn't bought in equal talent, it has made the team better IMHO. Magloire is in a contract year. If he was stuck on the Bucks bench he could have become a cancer. Plus, the Bogut/Magloire combination didn't work very well last year. Now with CV31 in the line-up it is make or break for the Bucks front court.

I think Blake was the key to the deal. Ha will be gone and Skinner is insurance in case of injuries or a replacement for Smith if he is traded. Blake is a very efficient PG, who is an above average defender and a solid team player. He can come in and not cut into the amount of shots that Redd, Simmons, CV31 and Bogut require.

Even if this trade is an absolute failure, they are all expiring contracts. That will allow the Bucks to have cash to resign Mo and Bell, plus Ilyasova if he earns his cheque. Plus the fact the Bucks have only used a small part of their MLE on Greer and Markota (giving him a 2yr guranteed contract), if the team bombs out this year the amount of young talent (Bogut, CV31, Mo, Ilyasova, Markota, Noel) puts them in a very solid position in the near future.
