Ingame save???

Postby brownie on Fri Jul 18, 2003 8:01 pm

Hi, I was wondering if NBA Live 2004 will have the ingame save option?? I don't understand why they don't put it, it's so easy and very useful. Many of us don't have time to play for nearly 2 hours, it's much more important than what people says...

Does soomebody know???

I haven't heard any news with regards to the In-Game save. Who knows? it could make a triumphant return in 2004

cheers!

Yes, an Ingame Save option would be extremely useful. I have lost count the amount of times I have had to quit games halfway through the 3rd quarter (In 12 minute and 8 minuter quarters). Fair enough it can be used to cheat (Being 1 point down with 10 seconds to go and restoring when you lose), but it sure beats having to play the game over again. Plus you lose your GREAT or crap stats from the previous game, which is just annoying.

There hasn't been any word of being able to save during a game, but I don't think it was mentioned when it was first introduced back in NBA Live 98, so you never know. It's a handy feature, though I've never really needed to use it.

hehehe,
trade them for a couple of future draft picks
anyway the ingame saves was cool, i remember people used to make senarios with them for nba live, ie. nba finals game 6, bulls have the ball, down 1 pt...

that was pretty cool

I can think of numerous times on 2003 that i needed an in game save but is there a way that u wouldnt lose the stats to your profile or the stats of that game?

Not sure if this is what you mean but there's a button at the bottom of a stats screen that says "save stats" and it saves a text file of the stats you're viewing.

Wat im saying is once u save that game will the stats be saved also so wen u come bac and finsh u get the compete stats.

for example if i stop a game at half time and save will the stats from the first half be there wen i come bac and finish the second half? and if they r will the be included in my user profile or will i jus get stats of the second half in my user profile? if they put the ingame save in live 2004

I imagine it would retain all game statistics. It wouldn't be much use in Dynasty Mode if it didn't.

I think anyone understands that it's very difficult to play for one hour and a half without stopping, so... The ingame save option is ESSENTIAL, specially in a game that proudly says is the best basketball simulation.

It's not about tricks or cheats, it's just about comfort. I am sure that people who would make cheat with this option should not feel as good as a fair player...

Hope EA will put it again!

I don't think the possibility of using in-game saves to cheat is any reason to leave it out. I think the more likely explanation is that EA have been focusing on other areas of the game, or have been unaware of how popular in-game saves are.

Obviously, it's not impossible for everyone to set aside time to play a full 48 minute game so in-game saves are not essential. However, a lot of people would find that feature useful, and even those of us who wouldn't make regular use of the feature would surely find use for it every now and again.

And of course as Jowe mentioned in-game saves can also be used for scenarios, as well as their intended function. :)

i don't think the cheating issue would factor too much in people saving games. 2003 seems to be the first year that i really remember players complaining about losing games, or it being more difficult to win. i still remember all the threads about getting tired of winning every game by twenty or more, and wanting it to more of a challenge.

We all agree that it will always be a useful option, so why don't they do an effort and include it?

I agree with Andrew, EA has focused on other aspects of the game. their only interest seemed to be making an arcade-type basketball game, the gameplay, etc. I think they have forgotten other easy aspects like this one...

actually, i don't know why i didn't remember this before but, in madden 2001 or 2002 there was an auto save feature, and i think this would be more important than just having an ingame save. with the auto save in madden if for some reason your computer were to freeze or crash back to the desktop while playing a game, the game would automatically start back up at the point that it crashed. i don't know how much it would benefit the consoles, but they should really have this for pc's. then you wouldn't have to stop and save your game, just quit and when you reload your dynasty or franchise you automatically go back to the game you were playing.

Focus on other areas. Not much point in having in-game saves if people aren't going to want to play it enough to utilise that kind of feature.

Of course, the stats should be there. Otherwise, what's the point of the ingame save?

It wouldn't be much use at all !!!

Yeah, but first of all, they focus on graphics and movements. :?

True, but since Dynasty Mode (and Season Mode and Playoff Mode for that matter) keeps so much statistical data, it would be especially irritating to have your Dynasty stats messed up because you continued a saved game in progress.

Yeah, but first of all, they focus on graphics and movements.

I think EA does concentrate on the gameplay first. Take the addition of Freestyle Control as an example of that. I just think that in trying to make a game that was fun to play, they did so at the expense of realism. It's just a matter of finding the balance between fun and realistic - hopefully NBA Live 2004 will accomplish that.

Entirely agreed.

Anyway, gameplay in NBA Live 2003 is way better than in previous version. And Freestyle Control was a great innovation  (Y) (I hope EA will continue improving it).

Even if NBA Live 2004 won't become the golden mean, it ... (I said it before and I'll say it again) ... becomes better. :D  (Y)

There were improvements in NBA Live 2003, no question. Little things, like being able to pass if a dribble move is taking you out of bounds. That was a problem in NBA Live 2001 and NBA Live 2002. As you said, Freestyle is a great innovation, and it's good to hear there'll be improvements to Freestyle in Live 2004.

You're totally right!!!
But I think it's not "little things", it's "quite BIG things"!!!
And in NBA Live 2001 you wasn't being able to pass while dribbling at all!!! In my opinion, that was a big omission!!!
