Emo's are alright, sure their weird but I get along with them fine. People bashed wiggers for along time now their 'accepted' since most teens dress hippity hoppity, just accept a style as long it's not killing you. (physically) I hate street racer types with their moded cars and engine talk but you just gotta let it go.

Anyway with that being said I think it's really ignorant for people to bash music. Their is no definition as to what genre is the real music, music can be anything to anyone. People by into commercial hype way too easy and cast ignorant opinions over artists and genres, I could easily stop listening to rock when I see and listen to such commercial acts as Nickelback, Blink182, Evanescene and Linkin Park flowing through the air waves or stop listening to rap cause of acts like 50 cent, Ja Rule, Nelly and Lil Kim but I don't cause theirs more to a type of genre than just a few artists that you see on TRL or on your regular air waves everyday.

Moving on...

I can't believe you listed Limp Bizkit, yeah I did like their old material and still do but they've just become such crap. They can't get their style defined, they are just a huge mix up of sounds and it doesn't sound that great and Fred Durst is just pathetic now, I had some respect for him cause he had some hip lyrics earlier on (3$ and TSO) but he's just got too bubble gum. The only thing they have going for them now is Wes returning, I heard they had a new track out but haven't had a listen to it yet.

Nobody listed Smashing Pumpkins here, kinda surpised about that. I'm not sure about worldwide but the Deftones are real popular over here, along with Korn and Incubus. Other bands on mainstream that have a big following here I can think of are Weezer, SOAD, RATM and of course RHCP who are like the biggest/most popular rock act over here.

My personal list of commercial acts would be
Smashing Pumpkins, Tool, A Perfect Circle, Incubus, RHCP, SOAD, Chevelle, Staind, Nirvana, The Strokes, Pearl Jam, Deftones, The Wallflowers and Everclear.

For anyone into underground material
Ablebodymaniac, Phobia Root, Newton's Theory, Matt Willis, Hysteria, Columbian Path, Union of Anger, Cold Anger, Derby Driving Dummies, Sharklane, Puck, Dis Be Glory and Methaprick.

The lyrics do it for me, some people rub off metalcore/hardcore or even heavy metal cause they say it's just a bunch of leads and riffs and some dude going haywire on the drums but you find some very twisted and amazingly intelligent lyrics in them but you gotta catch the drift of what the song is about or you'll be lost and once you do get it you really appreciate and admire the full circle of it all. With that being said I can't stand new school punk, I'm alright with old school punk like The Sex Pistons and Sonic Youth but not any of these new acts some of them which can't even decide if their punks, emo's or mc's.

Worship satan? You do know many rockers are pretty religious. I'm not saying they go to Church every Sunday but even certain metalcore acts never talk about God in a bad way.

Suicide is hyped up, you look at the majority and you'd realise many hardcore rock fans don't wanna kill themselves or at least don't do it. Again this is commercial crap you've gotten into believing.

I'd rather see tons of skaters than kids around the block with a piece on them and some dope in the other hand. Skaters are normally chilled back pussy types that look aggresive due to their attire, maybe you've got some fucked up skater community over wherever you live but over here their A OK.

Yea, I dont even understand why people give a fuck. let hem do as they please. maybe they like dressing in weird clothes and having there own styles of clothes and shit. Atleast they dont go out and buy Hollister like every fucking kid in my school does and just buy to it to become popular. If they dont bother you how does it bother you?

I could easily stop listening to rock when I see and listen to such commercial acts as Nickelback, Blink182, Evanescene and Linkin Park flowing through the air waves

You have a good point but not All commercial stuff is bad. When I first here a commercial Rock song I usually like it at first. Then I go to a party or something and in a 4 hour period they play the song 7 times. Same as on the Radio. I listen to Q102, and they play this one rock song (forgot the name), atleast twice every hour. Also on MTV2. On there video things they play the same song every fuckin hour, it gets old and boring very quikly.

I can't believe you listed Limp Bizkit, yeah I did like their old material and still do but they've just become such crap.

New shit sucks. They just trying to get more people to listen to them and starting to act like fucking Pop singers. The only album I ever listened to by them Is 'Chocolate Covered Starfish and The hotdog Flavored Water'. That is easily in my top 3 Rock albums of all time. Every song was amazing. I suggest all you metal lovers/likers to check this one out.

Sems like all they sing about now is Love and how there lives suck. As in the word 'Emo'. I enjoy this type of music, but come on, SING ABOUT SOMETHING ELSE.

Kriegz, I really like some of those tracks, like Dungeon Family - On and On or a lot of Kanye Stuff (I was and maybe still am a Kanye Fan) and I think the two albums are more than solid, the beats are always awesome, just like you said, "Two Words" or "Never Let you down" are great songs, but I go with "Touch The Sky" in your list, I love the horns.

Looking forward to the next 10 ;) Maybe again some things I do like, too.

yea over here, the country is basically full of wiggers and skaters, both of them will get smart, talk shit, then get knocked the fuck out... after a while it just gets annoying.

Worship satan? You do know many rockers are pretty religious. I'm not saying they go to Church every Sunday but even certain metalcore acts never talk about God in a bad way.

From what i see on music videos, and ppl that are into this sorta music, alot of them are so into the whole satan thing, i dnt really knw many details about it but they are

Suicide is hyped up, you look at the majority and you'd realise many hardcore rock fans don't wanna kill themselves or at least don't do it. Again this is commercial crap you've gotten into believing.

i dont know how many songs i have heard about suicide from the rock genre (emo punk wateva it is called) to me, an emo is a whiney 14 yr old with rich parents having a lil suicide session over the fact the his dad wont let him drive his car. Again, i am only speaking for those that i have seen/know. alot of ppl at my skool hu wear the dark makeup, the nail polish, the trenchcoat sorta clothes talk about suicide ALOT, in fact, on a school survey thing, we had to put down what we think we would be doing at 25, i knw at least 3 "emos" or "goths" put dead. they said it was coz they were gonna kill themselves.

To me, the majority of ppl that listen and are into this sort of music (in CHCH anyways...) are wierd, over reactive, suicidal (maybe for attention), smart asses, gay, or just plain fucked up.

i would listen to game rap about his life story over a 35kg kid with tight jeans and makeup sing like a girl about his weekend wen he didnt get his allowance. but thats just me.

I'll explain you why rap/hip-hop isn't really a music genre: Music has born to be played with musical instruments. That doesn't happen in almost every rap/hip-hop song.(most of the bases are made with a computer or with a DJ box)
Music has also born to have a singer that sings over the notes of the musical instruments. Once again, in almost every rap/hip-hop song, rappers don't sing, but just talk, following the rythm of the sound.
So technically, I wouldn't consider rap/hip-hop a music genre.

In some ways you could say a computer or a dj box is a musical instrument. Rap music isnt the only genre to make use of it either and also they shouldnt have to be constrained to prehistoric means of beat making.

Oh well, let me get out.

What do you think of The Arctic Monkeys?

You ruined my list! You put At The Drive In twice. That avatar of yours better At The Drive In's Omar and Cedric and not Mars Volta's Omar and Cedric, otherwise i'm really convinced that you're either stalking me/lost brother. :P As for Artic Monkeys, haven't heard a lot of them. One of my mate's has told me good things though. Are they that band that sings that song that goes "It's 5!"?
Stevesanity wrote:Anyway with that being said I think it's really ignorant for people to bash music. Their is no definition as to what genre is the real music, music can be anything to anyone.

Hmm, i disagree. i think the main thing is not that real music is this or real music is that, but more that it's much harder to appriciate a band or artist's music when it's clearly money making gimmicky shit. This includes most, if not all, commercial music. Some people like some poppy stuff to dance to and tap their foot to and whatever, and that's fine. But those people are missing out on the lesser-known musicians who put their creativity and sole together and making stuff that appeals to themselves and is enjoyable to them, without worrying about marketability. That's real music to me.

The definition of music according to dictionary.com:

The art of arranging sounds in time so as to produce a continuous, unified, and evocative composition, as through melody, harmony, rhythm, and timbre.

In there I see no mention of instruments.

Yeah, I was wondering that too

I hate this music

Well...this IS music. Other "genres" (except Classic music and Jazz) are only sounds mixed with the voice of some dude who isn't capable to sing, and that repeats the same verse everytime (the verse changes in each genre. ie: in Rap it is :"Yo!" and "Yeeeeah baby". In R&B it is whatever the thing Alicia Keys does and in Pop it's not a verse. But a different accentuation, better known as the "Robbie Williams bi-sexual accentuation")
I hope you understand.

Nope I dont understand why you would say rap is not music.

The definition of music as sound with particular characteristics

That says it all, it classified as music. Also, rappers just don't say "yo" or "yeahh baby". Actully Ive never heard a rapper really say "yeahh baby". Its a lot more of music than you think my friend.

I would have to aggree with joe. As much as i love some of the earlier rap music i would have to say its not music. No vocals+no instruments=no music. You might argue that they have beat boxes and creativity but anyone can rap about rims, bitches, crime, drugs, and gangs. Classic rock is music though. It takes some skill to play a 16 string Sitar and make a guitar screech. Its easier on the ears and it doesnt make you want to fight or act aggresive.

Rap is basically chanting beats and percussion, which is how music originated. So STFU. It's music. You may not like it, or may not think it's GOOD music, but it's music.
