Which game should I buy?

Postby beau_boy04 on Sat Jun 03, 2006 12:04 pm

I downloaded F.E.A.R single mode demo and I loved it. I thought I would never again played another first person shooting game but man I really missed out on these games until now. So, I thought since you guys know so much about games I should ask ya which game should I buy now?

As I recall the last time I played a first person shooting game was Doom, and that was like 6 yeas ago hahaha. Recently, I just built a new computer and i'm so excited since my old rig was 3 years old. I think my new system will last me another 3 years since I will be overclocking my cpu and vid card.

But anyways, help me make my decision of which one would I enjoy the most out of those games listed on the pool.

The popularity for BF2 has come and gone, you can still have fun playing it online, but as far as competition with clans goes, its not what it was in its height during Sept.-January.

The best single player game you can get is definitely Half Life 2, and it also comes with Counterstrike: Source which can become almost equally as addictive as trying to beat Half Life 2. If you have a good video card, Half Life 2 is also the prettiest game of the 3, and also probably the last demanding, Battlefield 2 is the most demanding game of the 3.

Here's what you do.

Get Half-Life 2 through the Source Premier Pack. (Or if you want Half-Life also and all it's mods: http://storefront.steampowered.com/v2/i ... &SubId=81& for the Complete Pack) That way you get HL2, EP1, CS:S, DOD:S and can also use all the kewl Half-Life 2 mods, plus you get all those other Half-Life 2 based games.
Counter-Strike: Source
Day of Defeat: Source
Half-Life 2
Half-Life 2: Deathmatch
Half-Life 2: Episode One
Half-Life 2: Lost Coast
Half-Life Deathmatch: Source
Half-Life: Source

If you just buy Half-Life 2, you DO NOT get Counter-Strike: Source or any of the other things. Just Half-Life 2 and the Lost Coast technology demo. Considering all of the other parts seperately would cost $20 each, it's worth it to spend the extra $10 to get the bigger pack as you might decide you want them later and you'd have to buy them all seperately. Not kewl.

After that, then you can consider Call of Duty 2, F.E.A.R., Condemed: Criminal Origins, and FarCry for single player. Though their single players probably aren't as deep as HL2. And their multiplayer functions pale in comparison a ton.

Battlefield 2 has dropped off because apparently EA has broken it with a new patch. And they've never fixed any of the major bugs, mainly ones nobody noticed instead.

I haven't played Battlefield 2 in awhile but when I did it was a great game to play online. But it sounds like they are having problems now so I would also say to get the source premier pack. The best game in your list of choices above is definitely Half-Life 2, it has the most replayability (with CS and the mods and online and whatnot).

I reccomend Half-Life2. (Y) I'm into that at the moment, and have almost finished it. Great game. It's such a believable world that you are in.

Also, jugs, are you serious? The game is short by today's standards. It's pretty much 15 hours worth of playing time.

I'm not good at First person shooters. I got up the second level and I played it for like 90 minutes and I couldn't pass it. Plus whenever I saved, it would fuck up the AI, it would get disabled (maybe because it wasn't an original copy, lol). I don't have it anymore.

get battlefield 2...you can drive planes choppers and tanks

I have Counter - Strike : Source and I barely play it anymore...even Battlefield 1942 is more fun. If only Counter-Strike had vehicles...

but that's just me , maybe you don't like driving things

BF2 runs about as well as F.E.A.R. for me. You can get a demo of it, single player is more demanding than multiplayer because it has to do all the bot AI. I'd get the demo, use single player to tweak the settings until it's pretty smooth, then hop online using the demo as there's plenty of demo servers still. Then you can see how well it runs.

I'd still go with HL2 though, because of everything you get.

damn i went ahead following you guys advice and bought BF2 deluxe version which includes original bf2 and special forces expansion pack. I didn't know you had to play online to get the most out of it... i tried playing single player and it always give me the same map... im kinda getting tired of it. shit now im considering buying call of duty 2 which I saw at work yesterday and it was great.
