Rip's Raps Dynasty 06-07

The 2005-06 was considered a lost year for the Toronto Raptors organization. The team finished a dismal 9-19, good for 4th worst in the NBA. The only real brught spots for the team came in the form of achievment and transaction. Star Chis Bosh was voted an allstar after averaging a career high 21.9ppg, 11.6rpg, and 2.03bpg. The team also made a big transaction at the deadline, acquiring Boston rookie forward Gerald Green and post Brian Scalabrine in exchange for point Mike James and center Pape Sow.

Now in the offseason, the Raptors look to improve on a dismal season and maybe make some noise in the "wide open" East by improving via the 4th pick in the Draft and by free agency (17.85mil).

RESERVED (Offseason Recap)

Sun Jun 25, 2006 1:02 pm

You shipped away Pape Sow and got a fucking scrub in Scalabrine, but Gerald Green is definitely an interesting prospect to develop.

Even though Sow is pretty bad in the game, he's one of the few Raptor big men that they have. Hopefully you'll be able to find a more able-bodied replacement.

I hate Mike James. He didnt have a good rating 68, and I needed a swing so I got rid of him, he was a free agent anyway and if I can get a young star in the making for him...im on that! lol

Yeah, Pape isnt a personal Fave of mine. He has no offensive game and i need something else downlow. But Green is someone i want to mess with and see if i cant get him to be really good, next Vince or something. My plan is get a PG with the 4th pick and a Big with my cap space.

Raptor's Draft Results

1st round---Pick 4

Alton Murray
#5
6'3"
PG
LSU

Description- Murray was a scoring point in college and will fit perfect into Toronto's system. Alton can spread the floor with dead-eye three point accuracy and can slam it down once he gets into the lane. Not a very strong defender or rebounder. Could improve free trow percent or 60%.

Best Scenario- Jason Terry
Worst Scenario- Flip Murray

Round 2---Pick 4

Liam Barnard
#33
6'7"
SF
Virginia

Description- Liam was a post in the tough ACC in his college days. His lack of size will force him out to the wing, but he will have a strength advantage over most SFs. Not a good shooter at all, will rely on post moves to score. Rebounding is solid and defense is stellar at the college level which may project well too the NBA. Will probably be a defender off the bench at best over his career.

Best Scenario- Eduardo Najera with a post game
Worst Scenario- Ronald Dupree

Free Agency

The Raptors went into free agency looking to adress the bench and center position. First look went to Nazr Mohammed, who would have been the starter at C but he wanted big money so he signed a 6 year deal with Charlotte to be the 3rd string center...The Raps then targeted back up PG, Damon Jones, a noted three point marksman and according to himself, the NBA's best looking man, was availible for relativly cheap. Toronto needing a punch off the bench picked him up with a 2 year deal. Othella Harrington a solid veteran precense with the Chicago Bulls was brought in on a one year deal to be a secure leader off the bench. With the FA period waining, the Raptors picked up former PITT star Chris Taft for a cheap 375K, to be used as an emergancy C and maybe solid contributer in later years.

TRANSACTIONS
The Raptors made the 2nd biggest trade of the offseason. The most dramatic was Pheonix trading Steve Nash to Clevland For Larry Hughes and a first round pick. Maybe this trade will put Clevland over the bump it hit in its firts trip to the finals?

The Raptor made a deal with the Denver Nuggets. Toronto had a log-jam at SG with the veteran Morris Petersen and the youngster Gerald Green fighting fot the starting job. Toronto put alot of hope into Green, who only averaged 5.8ppg last year, by trading Morris Petersen and Brian Scalabrine to Denver For Marcus Camby. Camby returns to the place where his career started, Toronto.

Yeah, 4th pick with an 83 in threes and field goals? I like. And yup, Rip is pretty much the best playa in tha L. lol

Tue Jun 27, 2006 5:49 am

lol, it took me a while to realize that you were the "original" rip.

I remember you from a while ago, but so many people have rip23198908 or have a rip hamilton avy, so I got you confused for someone else.

Good stuff drating those two rookies, they look like the can contribute right away.

Your roster looks like solid with some depth, although I would have prefered to hae Calderon ahead of Damon Jones in the depth chart.

A decent shooting guard wouldn't hurt either, it seems like that Bernard guy isn't going to be a swingman that can spread the floor with some shooting.
