Just a note, I'll be using this recapping style for a few games here and there.

Warriors Pound the Spurs (103-85 Warriors)

Image
Warriors Boxscore
Spurs Boxscore

A 16-2 run by Golden State in the first quarter was just a sign of things to come
as the Warriors pummelled the Western Conference powerhouse San Antonio
Spurs. It was a clear-cut blow out from start to finish, and the largest lead
by the Warriors at one point was 18. San Antonio fell in love with the three
pointer, but they shot only 5 of 28 from beyond the arc. The Warriors' weakest
lead was during the third quarter when Tony Parker scored 10 of his 28
points on 5 of 6 shooting to narrow the gap to 57-50. It was smooth
sailing from then on though, as Jason Richardson led the Warriors with 20
points 4 rebounds and 5 assists.

Post Game Comments

"Once we were down by a large margin we wanted to turn things around quickly and thats not how coach (Popovich) wanted us to play." - Tony Parker on his 2 of 10 three pointer attempts

"Defensively, they (Richardson and Davis) limited Tony Parker and Ginobili to the outisde and forced them to take too many perimeter shots. It really hurt us throughout the game." - Tim Duncan

"He's such an explosive player and I look foward to playing with him on the next national team. I wish him the best of luck in the future, but I'm glad we got the win." - Mickael Pietrus on fellow Frenchman Tony Parker

Pictures

J-Rich was spectacluar to watch this game
Tony Parker lit the Warriors up in the second half, but relied too heavily on his perimeter shooting at times
Troy Murphy was perfect from the field
Terrell Hanson continues his steady play off the bench
Ginobili around his back
Ellis was a huge spark off the bench and passed the ball well
Tim Duncan was 7 of 7 from the field, but never got enough touches
Davis throws it down hard
Biedrins was a monster rebounder when he got playing time

Lakers Get First Win Over Warriors (94-80 Lakers)

Image
Warriors Boxscore
Lakers Boxscore

Kobe Bryant got the Los Angeles Lakers off to a hot start by scoring 12 of the
Lakers' first 18 points. Bryant would go on to score 28 points, but did almost
nothing in the second half as the rest of his teamates took care of the Warriors.
Golden State managed to keep up with Kobe Bryant in the first half, allowing
the Lakers to only have a 4 point lead by halftime. This changed as Bryant
relied more on his teamates throughout the game and started passing the ball.
The turning point for the Lakers happened in the third quarter, when an 8-0
sparked by kwame Brown gave the Lakers a 75-59 lead in the end of the third.
The cloeset Golden State would get was 75-65, but Kwame Brown and Lamar
Odom's offensive rebounding kept the huge Laker lead intact for the rest of
the game.

Post-Game Comments

"He ran circles around us and when we finally were able to stop him, he was able to find his teamates very well." - Mike Montgomery on Kobe Bryant

"He makes you work so hard defensively and when you're on offence you struggle because he's also such a great defender." - Jason Richardson on his worst performance of the season

"When I realized that they started to double and triple team me, I could rely more on my teamates to finish the play than myself." - Kobe Bryant on his change of roles in the second half

Pictures

Kobe Bryant won the individual scoring battle against Richardson
Davis led the team in points (20), assists (6) and rebounds (9)
Bryant played more like a point guard in the second half
The newest Laker acquisition is Eduardo Najera, but he sucked
Lamar Odom recieved limited touches, but tries to call for the ball
Despite his poor shooting, Richardson had a few fast-break dunks
Kwame Brown lived up to his potential... At least for tonight.

I'm not too sure about MVP, but he can certainly light it up and get in the top 10 scoring. It'll be a bit difficult though, since I'm on 8 minute quarters.

Wow you won in a thriller nice job

Its one of those games where it was either going to be really rewarding, or really disappointing.

I'm glad to see someone enjoys my new recapping style. I guess I'll use it for single game coverage since it'll be a hassle and too long to read if I used it for those double-game recaps.

Gasol and Grizzlies Have Last Second Win (96-95 Grizzlies)

Image
Warriors Boxscore
Grizzlies Boxscore

With 1.6 seconds remaining and the Warriors up by one, Golden State looked
like they had dodged a nail-biter, when in fact it was the Grizzlies were the
ones that came out on top. Up by as many as 8 at one point, the Warriors
fell to the defending champs during the third quarter, when the Warriors
commited 6 turnovers and this led to a 7-0 Grizzlies run which later ballooned
into a 71-59 Memphis lead heading into the fourth. Golden State came storming
back in the fourth, going on a 17-6 run and gave the Warriors some hope to
win the game when they were down only 89-86 with 49 seconds remaining. Pau
Gasol, one of two Memphis Grizzlies with at least 20 points and 10 rebounds,
hit a baby hook to give Memphis a 5 point lead. Baon Davis nailed a three
pointer at the other end, but Josh Boone, the other player with 20 points
and 10 rebounds, got fouled and the 27th pick by the Grizzlies sank two
clutch free throws. Baron Davis hit yet another three pointer to close
the gap to 93-92, but time was running out and Mike Miller had to be fouled.
Despite being an 80% free-throw shooter, Miller split the freethrows with
18.1 seconds remaining. The Warriors then drew up a play for Jason Richardson,
and nailed his only three pointer in the game over Pau Gasol. The Grizzlies
called time-out and then immediately fed Gasol the ball for a tough layup
over two defenders.

Post-Game Comments

"I thought I played pretty well for my first start; I thought I did a good job defending and finding my teamates, but that means nothing unless we win the game." - Ronnie Brewer on his first NBA start

"I was comfortable all game long, as soon as a started getting a lot of rebounds I felt good about myself and started hitting some shots in the key." - Josh Boone on his career highs in points and rebounds

"I was able to see a thin opening between Troy (Murphy) and Jamaal (Magloire). I knew that if it wasn't going in, I was going to be fouled anyway." - Pau Gasol on his game-winning heroics.

"We battled back, but we just ran out of gas on the last play. We celebrated too early, we should never count out a team, regardless of how much time is on the clock. Give them credit though, they're the defending champs." - Baron Davis on the final play.

Pictures

Hakeem Warrick was injured in the second quarter, but showed no signs of slowing down
The 5'10, 174lb Stoudamire takes a charge on the 7'0 255lb Terrel Hanson
But Stoudamire got posterized by Davis on this play
Richardson might've celebrated too early after hitting that three pointer..
Mickael Pietrus was efficient off the bench
Mike Miller's free-throw to seal the game clanged off the rim
The winning points...
Josh Boone was a thorn in the Warriors side all night with his rebounding.

Too Much of Carter in the Fourth Gives Warriors 3rd Loss (96-88 Nets)

Image
Warriors Boxscore
Nets Boxscore

Yet again, the Warriors blew a lead and lossed their third consecutive game.
The pace in this game was entertaining; both teams were aiming to run and
gun which allowed Jason Richardson a lot of easy transition baskets as he
scored 15 points by halftime. However, near the end of the third quarter
as J-Rich was resting, the Warriors fell apart and their offence fell stagnant
and both teams were exchanging leads throughout the quarter. New Jersey
finally pulled away in the fourth quarter when a 6-0 run was sparked by Vince
Carter and Richard Jefferson. Rookie big man Saer Sene had all 5 of his offensive
rebounds in the final quarter for the Nets', who had a total of 20 offensive
rebounds in the game. The Warriors' were pummelled on the glass and as
a result they were out-rebounded 48-37.

Post-Game Comments

"That Scott Padgett guy was one dirty player. I don't know how he got away with it, but that guy was doing a lot of things that shouldn't be done in a basketball game." - Jamaal Magloire on how he got out-rebounded 14-5 by a scrub.

"He was on-fire in the fourth quarter. He carried us through stretches in the game and he was instrumental helping us come back and win it." - Richard Jefferson on Carter's 33 point offensive night

"All I focused on was rebounding the ball, playing defence and trying to keep our lead alive in the fourth quarter." - Saer Sene

Pictures

James White had a career high 9 points
Saer Sene seemed to want it more badly than these two big men
Richardson cocks it back and hammers it home
Richard Jefferson drew a lot of double teams in the paint
What kind of Nets game would it be without a Carter slam?
But this time its Magloire doing the slamming on Carter

Yep. After abusing his highflyer FFS, he finally got a taste of his own medicine from a 65 rated dunker...

Warriors Stampede Over Bulls (103-89 Warriors)

Image
Warriors Boxscore
Bulls Boxscore

Troy Murphy helped Golden State snap their ugly three game losing streak by
scoring 29 points and grabbing 12 rebounds on 14 of 20 shooting. The dynamic
duo of Jason Richardson and Baron Davis also racked up 22 and 21 points
respectively. The Warriors had only led by one after the first quarter, but
Golden State had outscored Chicago in the second and third quarters by a
margin of 55-31, which was untypical of the Warriors because their previous
three games were lost mainly during the second or third quarters. Golden
State had a comfortable 86-61 lead heading into the final quarter. The Bulls
played well, but it was too late as the Warriors coasted the rest of the way
for the victory.

Post-Game Comments

"Coach told me not to settle for outside jumpers because I could hurt the Bulls on the inside." - Murphy on his big double-double effort.

"We knew that if we kept Ben Gordon and Kirk Hinrich in front of us all game long, we would eventually get the win." - Mike Montgomery

"Bargnani was really trying hard defensively, but he just isn't ready to contribute defensively." - Ben Gordon on second overall pick Andrea Bargnani.

Richardson's Near Triple-Double Gives Warriors a Magical Win Over Wizards (119-105 Warriors)

Image
Warriors Boxscore
Wizards Boxscore
Golden State had a 65-56 lead by halftime as Baron Davis scored 20 points
on 6 of 8 shooting, including a suprising 4 of 6 from beyond the arc. The
Warriors gave the fans a scare as they lost their third quarter lead and
fell behind by as many as 4 points, since Golden State has notoriously been
known for falling behind in games duirng the second or third quarters. However,
the Warriors seemed to have broken their bad habits as they fought back to reclaim
an 87-83 lead by the end of the quarter, recieving huge contributions off the
bench from the young but inconsistent Mickael Pietrus and Andris Biedrins.
Biedrins scored 8 points after filling in for Troy Murphy who had to sit out
with 5 fouls. Washington also lost a ton of momentum when leading scorer and
starting point guard Gilbert Arenas fouled out, showing that he was unable to
contain Davis. The fourth quarter continued to go in Golden State's favour, as
they went on an 8-0 to create a double-digit advantage. Baron Davis finished
the game with 22 points, 5 rebounds asnd 6 assists, but was a non-factor in
the second half as he nearly fouled out. Jason Richardson easily picked up
where Davis left off, scoring 9 points and grabbing 4 rebounds in the final
quarter to give him just 1 rebound and 2 assists shy of a triple-double.

Post-Game Comments

"I didn't really try to score a lot of points, but I got in the flow of the offence and that also helped me grab a lot of rebounds and assists. The fans really wanted me to finish with a triple double." - Jason Richardson on almost getting a triple-double

"When me and Baron picked up our fifth fouls, a lot of people thought that we might lose the game. Luckily for us, Gilbert also fouled out and Biedrins was able to step up in a big way." - Troy Murphy

"I didn't want to waste any opportunities to prove to coach Montgomery that I can play, so when Troy sat out, I took advantage of it to the fullest." - Biedrins on his best game of the season

"They were clicking on all cylinders, give them credit because Baron Davis really killed us in the first half, and Andris Beirdins and J-Rich did the rest in the second half." - Antawn Jamison on the blow-out loss.

Picutres

Jason Richardson got plenty of assists in the up-tempo pace that both teams played in
Rookie point guard Dee NOva was forced to fill in for Arenas
Baron Davis helped the Warriors by making Arenas foul out
Caron Butler was extremely agressive throughout the entire game
Ronnie Brewer comes out of no where to slam it over fellow rookie LaMarcus Aldridge
Biedrins had a team-high 3 steals thanks to his hustle and long arms
Biedrins also showcased his athleticism and his ability to run the floor
Raja Bell was acquired in the off-season by the Wizards
LaMarcus Alridge, the number one pick of the draft, was a non-factor (Kwame Brown anyone?)

Fixed. Thanks for spotting that minor typo.
November Recap

Overall Record: 4-5
Games Played: Mavericks (L), Sonics (L), Pacers (W), Spurs (W), Lakers (L), Grizzlies (L), Nets (L), Bulls (W), Wizards (W)
Overall Grade: B-

Before the season had started, Golden State had pulled the trigger on a 5-man
trade. This deal was orchestrated to create some cap flexibility in order to
be under the cap by the end of the off-season to try and acquire a big-name
player, most notably a player from the '03 draft class. Expensive veterans
Adonal Foyle and Derek Fisher along with the fan-unfriendly Mike Dunleavy were shipped to
the Milwaukee Bucks in exchange for Jamaal Magloire and Joe Smith. Magloire
was a big man that filled a need, while Joe Smith and Magloire's multi-million
dollar contracts would come off the books by the off-season, giving the Warriors
the cap space that they had desired. Magloire made an immediate impact with the
Warriors, becoming their starting centre and scored 17 points in his debut.

The first month of the NBA season was quite a rocky one for the Warriors, as
they seemed to go through stretches of both losing and winning. However, in
the end, the Warriors managed to to end the month on a positive note by having
two huge blow-out wins over Chicago and Washington.

November also had some disappointing moments as well. The Warriors had
lost three consecutive games before winning their last two, and before that they
had lost their first two games of the season followed by two wins. When the
Warriors were losing, the main problem seemed to be their lack of intiative
during the second and third quarters. A lot of their losses would either
come from losing a lead and allowing the opposing team to make a huge run
in the second/third quarters, or they would keep the game close, but lose
momentum as the starters would tire out and the offence would become stagnant.

Aside from winning games by a large margin, the most exciting Warriors game
would be their third game against the Indiana Pacers. Trailing 51-38 by half
-time, The Warriors clawed back into the game thanks to the hot shooting of
Jason Richardson, who scored a season-high 29 points. The game would be
sent into overtime, but it was unlikely hero that bailed out the Warriors.
Terrell Hanson was an undrafted centre from Africa that had gathered almost
no media attention when he made the team, but after this game he would become
a fan favourite of Golden State because of his hard working demeanor and
hustle off the bench. Hanson had got an offensive rebound after a missed
shot with 3.6 seconds left in overtime to tip in a shot at the buzzer to
give the Warriors a two point lead. Hanson also had 16 points and 8
rebounds to help lead the Golden State comeback in the second half.

Player Report Cards

Centres

Jamaal Magloire: C-
Stats: 7.4 ppg, 5.8 rpg, 46% FG
Best Game: 17 pts, 6 rebs, 4 asts vs Dallas
Worst Game: 2 pts, 5 rebs, 1-6FG, 0-4FT vs LA Lakers

Magloire seemed to be a great fit for Golden State; he was guranteed a starting
job, playing time and and filled a dire need in the front-court. However, Jamaal
has been up and down to say the least. After having an amazing start against
Dallas, he seemed to have slowly faded away from the Warriors offence. Magloire
almost never asserts himself on the inside. His rebounding has also been very
lacking, especially since the only top-notch rebounder on the team is Troy Murphy.
Overall, Magloire has been given the opportunity to contribute and potentially
return to his all-star form from a few years ago, but perhaps he hasn't finished
adjusting to the sun-shine state just yet.

Andris Biedrins: B-
Stats: 5.7 ppg, 4.6 rpg, 48% FG
Best Game: 14 pts, 5 rebs, 3asts, 3 stls vs Washington
Worst Game: 2 pts, 0 rebs, 1-3FG vs Indiana

Biedrins hasn't gotten many minutes with the arrival of Magloire and the emergence
of Terrell Hanson, but Biedrins remains a solid sub off the bench nonetheless.
When he's given the minutes, Biedrins shows incredible potential to rebound the
ball and even though his offence is still a bit raw, you can tell that he has
worked on his back to the basket game throughout the summer. The only problem
is that he needs a lot of minutes to showcase his effectiveness, which is difficult
to come by for someone in his position.

Terrell Hanson: B+
Stats: 5.3 ppg, 3.5 rpg, 60% FG
Best Game: 16 pts, 8 rebs, 8-10 FG vs Indiana
Worst Game: 0 pts, 0 rebs, 0-3 FG vs Dallas

Hanson has been a pleasant suprise for the Warriors, bringing in a ton of hustle
and a strong interior presence on both ends of the court. Although statisically
Hanson doesn't wow you, he's very unselfish, committed to the team and always
maintains his composure (as seen in the Pacers game when he scored the winning
basket), which are all traits that most 22 year old NBA rookies don't posess.
The only knock on Hanson is the fact that he's made only 2 of his 16 free-throw
attempts.

Power Fowards

Troy Murphy: B
Stats: 14.1 ppg, 9.3 rpg, 50% FG
Best Game: 29 pts, 12 rebs, 14-20 FG vs Chicago
Worst Game: 4 pts, 3 rebs, 2-8 FG vs LA Lakers

One of the more consistent Warriors, Murphy has consistently brought a strong
rebounding presence along with a decent scoring punch. Despite regressing from
last season where he scored 17 ppg, Murphy is still a capable scorer (an example
would be the Chicago game) and also had that 20 rebound performance against the
Pacers. Overall, there's not much Murphy can improve on, except for his three
-point percentage, which has regressed as the month passed.

Ike Diogu: F
Stats: 1.3 ppg, 2.8 rpg, 17% FG
Best Game: 2pts, 7 rebs vs San Antonio
Worst Game: 2pts, 1-8 FG vs Dallas

Hopes were high for Diogu since Mike Montgomery practically made Diogu the sixth
man for the first few games (which Golden State had lost, by the way). However,
Diogu has underachieved in a big way. Diogu has either been shooting a piss poor
percentage from the field or doing nothing on the court. Although his value seems
to be low, look for Golden State to potentially move this big man for a more agile
big man that can run the floor, which is more suitable for the Warriors' run and
gun style of play since Terrell Hanson and Biedrins have already picked up the
slack tremendously and both of them have practically taken all of Diogu's playing
time now.

Zarko Cabarkapa: N/A
Stats: N/A
Best Game: N/A
Worst Game: N/A

Zarko isn't an important part of the Warriors' roster or future plans, but it
would be unfair to simply give him a poor mark when he hasn't done anything.
I guess he'd get an A+ if the grading system was based on how well you can stay
on the IR without pouting since he knows that he's only on the team for his
expiring 2.5 million dollar contract.

Joe Smith: N/A
Stats: N/A
Best Game: Logged one minute of PT
Worst Game: N/A

Like Carbarkapa, Smith hasn't been able to showcase what he can do, so we
cannot properly grade him.

Chris Taft: N/A
Stats: N/A
Best Game: N/A
Worst Game: N/A

Taft has been stuck in the NBDL since day one of his rookie year. Taft
has been reportedly working with assistant coaches in his spare time to
help improve his game and land him a shot at playing with the team. Maybe
Diogu's terrible performance could be a blessing in disguise for Taft, who
has been simply itching to play and is the athletic big man that fits well
with the Warrior system.

Small Fowards

Jason Richardson: A
Stats: 22.7 ppg, 6.3 rpg, 4 apg
Best Game: 26 pts, 9 rebs, 8 asts, 3 stls vs Washington
Worst Game: 13 pts, 6-19 FG, 0-5 3ptFG vs LA Lakers

Richardson has done nothing short of lead the Warriors, whether its with his
scoring or his improved all-around play. Richardson seemed to slow down a
bit during the middle of the month, but inserting ROnnie Brewer into the
starting lineup and sliding J-Rich over to small foward seems to have
re-juvenated his field goal percentages (he's shooting a career high 46%
from the field).

Mickael Pietrus: C+
Stats: 9.1 ppg, 3 rpg, 53% FG
Best Game: 11 pts, 2 rebs, 5 asts, 5-8 FG vs San Antonio
Worst Game: 5 pts, 3 rebs, 1-5 FG

Even though Pietrus has improved from last year's horrendous flop, Pietrus
still hasn't shown anyone anything spectacular. Like most young players,
you just see flashes of potential in his spectacular athleticism, but he
hasn't really done anything extrodinary to live up to the hype when he was
drafted. In fact, Pietrus got demoted from his starting job after Brewer
began to out-play him. Although Pietrus hasn't done anything big so
far, he has been a solid defender and role player for the Warriors and
his tremendously improved shot selection has led to an efficient 53% field
goal percentage and knocks down the three ball at a 42% clip; both career
highs.

Shooting Guards

Ronnie Brewer: B
Stats: 8.1 ppg, 2.6 apg, 2 rpg, 50% FG
Best Game: 10 pts, 5 rebs, 4 asts, 1 stl, 1 blk vs Memphis
Worst Game: 2 pts, 1 reb, 1 ast, 1-5 FG, 4 TO vs New Jersey

Brewer has been a welcome addition to the Warriors, bringing a nice inside
scoring punch while doing a little bit of everything else. Aside from his
first game against the Mavericks and the Nets, Brewer has made few rookie
mistakes. He is playing smart, efficient basketball while also using his length
and athleticism to bother smaller guards; especially since he can play the
point from time to time. Brewer has made such a strong impression on Golden
State that he has even beat out Mickael Pietrus for the starting shooting
guard spot. The only shady part of Brewer's game is his ho-hum 28% from
beyond the arc and his abysmal 46% from the charity stripe. These problems
tend to be becoming smaller and smaller though, as Brewer seems to be hitting
his free throws at a higher clip and attempting less 3's these past few games.

James White: B
Stats: 4.4 ppg, 1 rpg, 80% FT
Best Game: 9 pts, 2 rebs, 1 ast, 1-2 3ptFG vs New Jersey
Worst Game: 2 pts, 1-3 FG, 1 TO vs San Antonio

For a second-rounder, White has been another solid rookie for the team. At
first, White was simply a filler-type of player that logged a minute here or
there when Richardson or Brewer was tired. As the month progressed, James
"Flight" White seemed to have become more comfortable with the team and it
is obvious that both his confidence and role with the team is growing steadily.
Not only does White lead the team in free throw percentage, he provides that
energy and hustle on both ends of the court that make him such a fun player
to watch, especially in the open court where he abuse his athleticism to the
fullest. White has clearly become a fan favourite of the team.

Point Guards

Baron Davis: A-
Stats: 18 ppg, 4 rpg, 7 apg, 47% FG, 42% 3ptFG
Best Game: 20 pts, 9 rebs, 6 asts, 2 stls vs LA Lakers
Worst Game: 8 pts, 4-11 FG, 5 TOs vs New Jersey

After a mediocre season a year before, Davis has gone full throttle again.
The first thing that most people will point to is Davis' shooting percentages
have sky-rocketed. Normally, Davis would only hover around 40% from the field,
but this year he has been very effective shooting the basketball, both from the
field and beyond the arc. Davis' amazing three point percentage is also quite
decieving, though. There would be games where he'd be lights out shooting the
ball, but some games he'd go 0-5. Davis has had a couple of bad offensive games
now and then, but normally he would contribute in other areas such as rebounding
or assists to make up for his offensive woes.

Monta Ellis: C
Stats: 5.1 ppg, 2.4 apg, 1.2 apg, 42% 3pt FG
Best Game: 11 pts, 4-7 FG, 6 asts, 2 rebs, 2 stls vs San Antonio
Worst Game: 2 pts, 1-3 FG, 2 TOs vs New Jersey

Although he's more of a two-guard, Monta Ellis is trying to be molded into more
of a pass-first guard since he lacks the height and strength to play shooting
guard. This experiment has come up with mix results this month, though. There
was a stretch of games when he played extremely well; he was under control,
distributing the ball and occasionally using his explosiveness on both ends of
the court to wow the crowd with an amazing play, making him a dangerous threat
off the bench when Baron Davis was resting. However, Ellis seems to drift in
and out of playing this way. One play he'd do everything right, then the next
he'd settle for a pull-up 24 footer on a 4 on 1 fast-break. There's no doubt
that he can become a point guard though; just ask Tony Parker when he practically
got burned by Ellis on many different occasions during the Spurs game. Ellis seems to
be slowly catching on to how to play point at an NBA-level pace and style, he
just needs to tone down those run-wild plays that he can sometimes get carried
away with like most high-schoolers do.

The only knock on Hanson is the fact that he's made only 2 of his 16 free-throw
attempts.

that sucks, nice report cards keep it up (Y)
