The "Post Your Football Manager Game" Thread

Other video games, TV shows, movies, general chit-chat...this is an all-purpose off-topic board where you can talk about anything that doesn't have its own dedicated section.

I think I might pick this game back up either today or tomorrow since I'm not working this weekend and I dont plan to update my Brazil thread til Sunday. My Barcelona side should still be in good condition. I'll update everyone on the guys I picked up last unless I already posted it somewhere in here.

Chile came second to Italy in the World Cup in my game, Tunisia came fourth and Germany came third. Brazil lost to Jamaica in Group A and they didn't make it past group stages.

I'd do a progress update, but I'm too lazy.

I won the A-League premiership by coming in first place by 3 points. Sasho Petrovski and Dwight Yorke were my leading goalscorers. Dwight Yorke was actually useless for the first 8 games, only scoring 2 goals and getting injured but then he scored like a couple of doubles and a hat-trick but Petrovski still won golden shoe. Jacob Timpano won young player of the month one month (my favourite defender) but I think he came second or something in young player of the league.

After the A-League Premiership win, I'm placed 9th in the all-time Croatian managers :proud: . But, I lost in the A-League Championship, I lost to second place Central Coast in the Semi-Finals, 2-2 on aggrogate or whatever it's called, but they had more away goals. I then thrashed Adelaide Utd in the Prelimanary finals to get into the finals against Central Coast but I lost to them 3-2 I think. Oh well.

I qualified for the Asian Club Championships, against a Thai, a Saudi and a Korean club. I won the group and qualified for the next phase, which was like in ages, I'm actually up to it now and I think I won the first game and the second game is next.

The new season has begun and I'm playing quite shitty. I released McFlynn, his contract ran out. I signed a Croatian guy named Pulo from Hajduk. I wanted him because he was Croatian. I thrashed some little Australian club in the Australian Club Championships 12-0 and Pulo scored 5 goals  . He plays quite a few positions, right wing back, right mid and right attacking mid. I play him at right attacking mid, i play a guy at right mid and a guy at right back. So I put the ball on the right lol.

Things started off nicely for team Cameroon. We beat the Ivory Coast in the friendly match with a fairly easy 4-1 result. I wasn't sure what players to play at certain positions, but I got a fairly good idea of which ones to play after that game. One of the positions I wasn't sure about was as my starting striker along side of Etó, and the one I chose to start in the game proved to be the perfect match, as he scored all my four goals.. The team also got a real boost after I subbed in a central defender and a central midfielder, so I'll definitely be using those guys in the upcoming games..

I've also played my first game in the group. It was against Sudan, which I was expected to beat off easily, and so I did with a 6-0 scoreline. The team was playing real solid and the ball seemed to go wherever our players wanted it to.. Let's just hope that it keeps doing that for our remaining 4 games in the group so that I'll be able to take the number one spot away from Ivory Coast and eventually move on to the World Cup..

edit: We just faced Benin and beat them off with a 3-1 score. But what's even better is that Ivory Coast drew their game, and I am now only 2 points behind them.. :)

@ Dahl: Who's your best performer so far? I was thinking about starting an African one a while ago, they're good fun to use.

How much is this game, I want to get it.

Probably about $40.

---

Ryan Babel is an absolute machine. In his last 7 games he has 9 goals, 5 assists and against Sochaux got past his opponent 14 times. Lyon are interested in him now and I can't blame them, he's been incredible.

24 games, 15 goals, 11 assists, 5 man of the match.

Since the 7-0 win against La Chapelle we've been decent, 3 wins, 2 draws and 1 loss but the players aren't happy because we're not as high as they want us to be. My attempts to sign Ale were thwarted because I picked up a 16 year old Swiss striker who for whatever reason counts as a foreign player. He looks great though so I'm not too disappointed.

Another surprise has been Alexandre Bonnet. I picked him up from Toulouse where he was playing in the reserves as a 19 year old, for the first team he's got 2 goals and 5 assists in 9 games, and has easily become our best right sided midfielder. Not good news for Farnerud who doesn't really have a place in the team. Portsmouth came in with a 3 million pound bid for him but I didn't think it was enough so I turnt it down. I'm thinking in the off season I'll sell off Henao (despite the fact he's been great lately) since he counts as a foreign player and sign either Ale or Arthur, another 20 year old Brazilian defensive mid who looks just as good.

Got a game against Le Havre next, last time we played them we won 5-1 so I'm hoping for something similar.

Ryan Babel's goal is disallowed, that's irritating. They're holding us out pretty well which is worrying. They look tonnes better this time around, if anything they've been better and had more chances. Awesome, Bonnet scores from a free kick. I bet you anything this guy is picked for France for the next World Cup.

Second half begins and Kisliy goes close. I have no idea how this guy completely dominates international opponents but struggles in league games. Babel almost scores, this could really cost us. There we go, Everton takes it past his man and delivers for Babel to score. Bonnet goes close to scoring again, but that's the end of the game and we move up to 8th place.

Strasbourg 2
Alexandre Bonnet (45)
Ryan Babel (70)

Le Havre 0

Everton had 2 assists, Raul Bravo has a mild injury which is bad news but he should be alright.

Got Nice away from home now, we've struggled against them a fair bit and I've got injuries galore so not really looking forward to this.

Decent start, plenty of chances only 12 minutes in but people aren't converting. Nice look lost, which means they'll probably end up winning. Another wasted chance by Kone, could've had 3 goals by now. The first half ends 0-0. Camara goes close to scoring for them, this game is a mess. They're attacking like hell now, if they don't score I'll be shocked. Kone misses yet another chance, and another. Completely useless. I'm starting Kisliy next game. Babel misses a great chance at the death, 0-0

Edit: Ok this is insane. Coming up against St. Etienne, as you all know I hate playing them. They have stacks of good players and constantly make life difficult for us. However...

Strasbourg 5
Sergey Kisliy (12)
Ugur Yildrim (16)
Ryan Babel (25, 29, 80)

St. Etienne 0

The best win I've had with Strasbourg (Y) Babel had 3 goals and 2 assists

The best player based on the average ratings is my right midfielder, Achille Emana, who's averaging 8.75 (he's also my leading assist maker). Etó is my top goalscorer and man of the match leader though, and is probably the most important part of the team..

I beat Libya 2-0 in my most recent game, but unfortunately the Ivory Coast also won their game against Sudan, so I'm still two points behind them. And it is them that I am facing in my next game. Basically, if I win this, I'm fairly safe that I'll move on, but if I loose or tie, I need Ivory Coast to loose their last game (against Sudan) and for me to win mine (against Egypt). Though I'm hoping that we'll play like we did in our friendly match earlier and beat them (though the pundits aren't too sure about that)..

Achille Emana... I might see if he's worth a look. I've been linked with the vacant St. Etienne job, which I thought was quite cool.

Well, the guys I brought in for my second season are:

Javier Mascherano- DM- Corinthians (22 yrs old)

Betinho- ST- Sevilla (19 yrs old)

Naldo- D- Werder Bremen (24 yrs old)

Fred- ST- Lyon (23 yrs old)

Love the youth because there will be room for improvement on already good stats.

Here are the significant guys who are out, or are about to be out (not listing the no-names):

Larsson- ST -Levante 35 yrs old

Rustu- GK- Galatasaray -Woulda made a good backup but he's 33.

Ezquerro- ST- Villareal

Sylvinho- WB- Lazio

Saviola- ST- Sevilla- (January window)thats the least I could do cuz I know he loved his time there and I want more competition in the league. He's good but I have Leo Messi to do what he does so its a waste if I kept him.

Jorquera- GK (Bidding in progress)- I have a younger guy I brouht in the previous year who I want to bing into the first team and he has also been whining about being in the starting 11.

Gabri- D/M (Bidding in progress)

Giuly- AM (Bidding in progress) 30 yrs old

Pena- D (Bidding in progress)

The one thing I dont know how to approach is the management of the second and 3rd teams. They keep whining about getting on the pitch and its kinda annoying. I just wish I could forget they were there. Also, when guys leave those teams am I the one responsible for replacing them? Oh well, I'll ignore it until something comes up.

SEASON SO FAR

The season has been pretty good so far. Had one loss to At. Madrid after leading by a goal before a controversial red card (controversial in my mind at least ). I also had a draw after fulltime with Werder Bremen but eventually won that match on penalties.

Besides from that one loss, I have been cruising this year, highlighted by a 6-0 thrashing of Rangers FC in the Champions Cup and a 5-0 win vs Levante in La Liga. I also got a god win against Sevilla, 3-0. The core guys are mostly still in tact, with Rafinha commanding the WBR spot from Belletti. Naldo also gets a starting spot every now and then. He has been getting good ratings also.

Preferred Lineup

GK- Valdez
WBL- Grosso
D- Marquez/ Naldo
D- Puyol (captain)
WBR- Rafinha
DM- Mascherano/ Xavi
LM- Van Bommel/ Deco
RM-Xavi/ Deco
AM- Ronaldinho
ST-Podolski
ST- Eto'o

Notes

Podolski- 10 matches/ 11 goals, 7 asts

Eto'o- 10 matches/ 8 goals, 2 asts

Ronaldinho- 10 matches, 4 goals, 5 asts, 8.5 avg rating

I also wanna add that I was very close to making a move to the Premier League after Chelsea were about to sack Mourinho. Decided I prefer La Liga at the moment but the Premier League is a place I wanna coach in the future. What I really want is a good national team job.

EDIT: Just started my next match against Recreativo and Ronaldinho put us ahead after 32 grand spanking seconds with a free kick after a doul on Eto'o.

Good read (Y) Fred is a great player, wish I had the cash to sign him at Strasbourg.

I've been starting Kisliy lately and he's got 4 goals in 2 games, so I had a look at his form for Belarus and I had no idea exactly how good he's been...

European Championships Qualifying:

vs Liechtenstein: 0 goals, 1 assist, match rating of 7
vs Poland: 2 goals, 0 assists, match rating of 9
vs Serbia & Montenegro: 3 goals, 0 assists, match rating of 10
vs Georgia: 2 goals, 0 assists, match rating of 8
vs Croatia: 0 goals, 1 assist, match rating of 7

So all up, that's 5 games, 7 goals, 2 assists and 3 MoM's for Belarus. Because of him (he's been their best player by far, even ahead of Hleb of Arsenal) Belarus are currently sitting 1st in their European Championship qualifying group, ahead of Czech Republic, Croatia, Serbia & Montenegro and Poland. They've played 5, won 4, drawn 1 and lost 0 with a goal difference of 9. What a player, only 19 years old too and cost me 600k.

Bullshit

What I really want is a good national team job.

Chile!

Well, enough of the get-a-chilean-team crap. I want to start a new game with an european team in a mid-to-big league (England, Italy, Spain, France, Germany, etc), but not with a strong team, like Barcelona (*stares at dada*), just a regular team. Any suggestions?

St. Etienne
Wolfsburg
Real Betis
West Ham
Udinese

I'd say St. Etienne and Wolfsburg out of that group.

Try Sevilla. Make sure you keep Saviola. (y)

Anyways, the match ended 2-1 vs Recreativo. I led 2-0 at halftime and they hit back on the counter then played strong defense until the end. Podolski missed a couple one-on-one chances with the keeper. Oh well.

I have finally got into 1st in La Liga after Valencia lost a match. We are tied on points but I have the better goal difference.

Sweet :P I won over Ivory Coast 2-1. Ivory Coast made the first goal in the 13th minute, but one of their players got a red card 32 minutes into the game, and after that I was able to take over more and more. A player called Thomas Job made our first goal on a penalty in the 71st minute, and Etó was the one that gave us the victory in the 83rd minute.. The World Cup just got a whole lot closer..

edit: I won against Egypt 2-0 after one goal by Etó and one by one of my central midfielders. Which means I win the group by 1pt over Ivory Coast and I'm going to the World Cup

Drex: Chile doesn't sound bad at all actually. I'll consider them for my next game if I choose to take a team from South America.. (y)

Finished my 2nd season (Y) Another run-down:

We went on a bit of a rampage to end the season, going 12 - 5 - 3 in our last 20 games. Unfortunately though we lost the plot in the last 2, drawing with Lens and getting smashed by Paris. We could've finished as high as 5th but settled for 7th, which is still an improvement over last season... a massive improvement actually:

2005/06: 15 wins, 8 draws, 15 losses | 58 goals for, 55 goals against, +3 | 53 points
2006/07: 16 wins, 13 draws, 9 losses | 64 goals for, 45 goals against, +19 | 61 points

So if we had played like this last season we probably would've come 4th. A 61 point season is also the most the team has ever had.

And as usual, the Strasbourg Reserves/Under 18's dominated again:

Top 5 Players

STRASBOURG

Giorgio Chiellini
20 games, 0 goals, 0 assists, Average Rating: 7.24
Juventus would be kicking themselves for letting this guy go. I credit him almost entirely for our turnaround in form, without him we were really struggling on that left side of defense but Chiellini has come in and solidified it, also opening up space for the likes of Everton and Babel.

Alexandre Bonnet
22 games, 4 goals, 7 assists, 1 MoM, Average Rating: 7.23
The former Strasbourg Reserves star made the leap to the first team to cover for injuries and eventually became one of the best midfielders in the entire club. He's only 20 years old but the kind of performances he's been putting in will definitely see him playing for France eventually.

Everton
27 games, 1 goal, 8 assists, 3 MoM, Average Rating: 7.22
Tortured defenders all season and was rewarded for it:
Named in 2007 French First League XI of the Season
Named in 2007 French League One Stars Team of the Season
2007 French Players League One Player of the Season (3rd place)
And all of that for no more than 1.4 million pounds.

Ryan Babel
34 games, 21 goals, 13 assists, 6 MoM, Average Rating: 7.21
Amazing season from Babel who's still only 20 years old. After being poor in 2005/6 he really jumped out of the games and dominated the goal scoring for our team. God knows where we'd be without him, though sometimes has injury problems.

Noe Pamarot
38 games, 3 goals, 4 assists, 5 MoM, Average Rating: 7.16
When I signed him from Tottenham I wasn't expecting much, maybe a decent back-up I could depend on. Instead I got the cornerstone of our defense, and a player who hasn't had a bad game in the entire time he's been with the team.

Future Transfers

Players In:
Lelo Mbele, 19 years old, Republic of Congo, ST

He's just a throw in for another transfer. Looks pretty good, if he improves, great, if he doesn't, who cares.

Players Out:
Arthur Boka to Lens for 1.3 million
Salim Arrache to Pachuca for 2.3 million
Yves Deroff to Al Rayyan (QAT) on a free transfer
Abel Mphela to Orlando Pirates on a free transfer
Omer Peretz to B. Jerusalem for 1 million
Jean-Christophe Devaux to Falkirk on a free transfer
Julien Gorius to Le Mans for 1.1 million
Talla N'Diaye to Lens for 500k
Gaetan Krebs to Reims for 1 million
Amara Diane to either Elfsborg, Nacional da Madeira or AGF for 775k

I decided to do a clean out and get rid of some of the guys I never use. Gaetan Krebs was the hardest to sell, but he's not developing at the same rate as his play (goal scoring machine in the reserves) and I have another left winger by the name of Guillaume Clinckemaille who's only 16 years old but had 12 assists in 20 games for the Under 18's, average rating of 7.40. Gorius was another hard one to sell but with Bonnet developing so rapidly I didn't need him anymore. All together I stand to gain around 7 million which is pretty good.

I'm not going to go out and make a bunch of signings in this off season. I'll have around 12 million to spend, but the average age of first team regulars for my team is 21.8 so I'd rather keep that group together and let them improve. I'll rely on call-ups from the Reserves and Under 18's, but I might spend 4-5 million on a goalkeeper. At the moment my #1 choice would be Timo Hildebrand. He's a Germany international but his team was just relegated so I like my chances of picking him up. I'm also looking for a midfielder, someone like Ale who can play a Makelele-esque holding role. Or I'll just sign Makelele, we'll see.

Transfer Targets

Ivan Pelizzoli (GK) 26 years old, Reggina, 1.8 million
- Former Italy international who was on his way to becoming a superstar at AS Roma until injury hit.

Morgan De Sanctis (GK) 30 years old, Udinese, 3.5 million
- Currently the #2 goalkeeper in Italy, his team was just relegated so I think I'm in with a shot.

Timo Hildebrand (GK) 28 years old, Stuttgart, 3.1 million
- Probably the 2nd best German goalkeeper on form, but his awful team was relegated so again I think I can get him.

Hector Fabian Carini (GK) 27 years old, IFK Goteborg, 575k
- Moved from Inter Milan to this small team, no idea why but he's cheap and I could get him quite easily if I tried.

The Defensive Midfielders:

Christian Ledesma (DM) 24 years old, Leece, 5.5 million
Arnold Mvuemba (DM) 22 years old, Rennes, 2.6 million
Didier Zokora (DM) 26 years old, St. Etienne, 3.9 million
Yaya Toure (DM) 24 years old, Olympiakos, 1.5 million
Jean II Makoun (DM) 23 years old, Lille, 2.5 million
Papa Bouba Diop (DM) 29 years old, Fulham, 3.4 million
Freddy Guarin (DM), 20 years old, Stuttgart, 3.3 million
Damiano Zenoni (DM) 30 years old, Udinese, 2.9 million

Guess we'll see what happens, I'd rather one of the younger guys but if I have to take a Zenoni or Diop I won't be too unhappy.

Edit: Awesome, we've got a place in the Inter-Toto Cup. That means we can get through to the UEFA Cup (Y)

Wow, Matthew Christiansen sucks Jae. only given me 3 assists.

Nick Mrdja, Dwight Yorke and Buonavoglia have been having terrible seasons, I'm trying to ship out Yorke and Buonavoglia. A surprise for me is Alejandro Salazar, I only used him 4 times last season but I put him on for one game and he scored a hat-trick, and has been my leading goalscorer ever since. Sasho Petrovski is still doing well but he's gotten and injury. and that Puto guy from Hajduk has been scoring a few goals as well.

I'm currently 3rd in the A-league, a shitty season so far (N) . I have a transfer budget of around 2.2M and I don't know who to spend it on. Does anyone know any playmakers who play on the left side of the field and that are wortha round 2million max?

Ok, I finally got the game and I'm playing as Hajduk Rodic MB Kula (Serbian team where I have a house at). We have lost 1 match and drawn 4, one draw was against the title holders Partizan. We are currently 12th on the ladder (I think) and looking to move up in the next match againt Zemun. The board just wants us not to get relegated.

I will keep you updated on how things go the next match, hopefully it will be a win. :)

EDIT:

It did not go as I planned for the next few matches.

2-1 L vs. Zemun

3-1 L vs. Grbalj

3-0 L vs. Budocnost (BD)

So, after 3 straight losses in a row I decided to put Aleksandar Davidov in to the starting lineup and change the tactics & formation around and it turned out to be a great decision.

2-0 W vs. Budocnost

1-0 W vs. Zeta (these guys were 4th, so it was a good win against them)

:)

Sorry for double posting, but I just finished 2005 off.

Player Awards

World Player of the year - Eto'o
Fotballer of the Year - Terry
-
European Player of the Year - Shevchenko
European Goalkeeper of the Year - Jens Musterwann
European Defender of the Year - Mladen Krstajic
European Midfielder of the Year - Dejan Stankovic
European Striker of the Year - Barbarez

2 Serbian players there.

Anyways, my last 2 matches I've played have probably been the best we have ever played.
We won the first one 5-0, then the second one 6-2.

The board was delighted that we started dominating our matches and they extended my contract for 3 years, now getting 1,400 pounds a week instead of 600 pounds a week.

hehe... some screenshots from my CM 01/02 career... Only playing with Lyon, currently in 2015/16 season

In my first French Cup final, the game went crazy ending up with 11 goals:
Image

In 2006/07 against Marseille... I score at the latest minute of regulation time, and at the latest minute of overtime to finally win on penalties...
Image

I encountered a regen called Andreas Dahl
Image

Another regen with a "strange" name
Image

One of my latest games... Down 3-0 at half time to finally win 4-3! Best thing is the "Henry" who scored for Le Havre is Thierry Henry, still playing at age of 37 (he's pretty old and slow now), but was still the best scorer of French First Division with Lyon at the age of 35!
Image

Player scores, goes crazy and quicks Jesus!

In another game, I wasn't the manager of either team, just saw that:

So far I am third with only 2 points from the leading team. I have my hopes against Bosnia in Kosov today, I must win that one if I expect to really fight for the first two places in the group.

Well, I won against Bosnia 2-1. A really tight game, but Jankauskas showed class by scoring both goals in a solid performance. The group now:

1. Spain 11 points
2. Lithuania 11 points
3. Serbia 10 points
4. Belgium 4 points
5. Bosnia 2 points
6. San Marino 0 points.

Looking good so far, now the game against Spain in their own stadium, it'll bet tough, but we already drawn with them a home, so I have some hope.

@Jae

Remember when I was telling you about the Brazilian teen Betinho I got from Sevilla (I think for $10 ml or something like that)? Look at this bid after one year in which he barely got on the pitch.

He is currently valued at 8.25 million. If I didnt love this kid I woulda sold him on the spot.

I'm at odds about who to start up front. I am definitely getting rid of Eto'o just because of his value (40+ ml) and age (26 years old and barely any better than my young forwards) so that leaves me with 3 top quality strikers in Fred, Podolski and Betinho...all under 25 years.

Fred is most likely to start since he scored like 25 goals for me coming off the bench (more goals than matches). Eto'o only had 30 in 50 matches. Podolski had like 46 in 50. Betinho was ineligible for the most part but did play some cup games: he scored 5 gls, had 5 asts in 5 games.

Ronaldinho played well in attacking midfied. He had 29 goals and 27 ast. Funny enough Xavi got player of the year with only 6 goals and 24 asts.

I'm planning to probably get Aguero or another young south american stud to sit on the bench and wait for their turn.

By the way, I lost that Dos Santos kid to Betis. He chose to sign with them instead of re-sign with me. Oh well.

Of course if a good premier league team has a vacancy I might make a switch so all this might not even matter. :D

I finished off the season with Hajduk Rodic MB Kula and I came 5th so it was good not to get relegated. :)

1st Place - Zemun
2nd Place - Red Star
3rd Place - Partizan

This young guy won player of the season called Markoski, he is only 20 years old and plays for Zemun. He was also the top goal scorer in the league, Nikola Zigic (plays for Red Star) came in second.

I was fairly happy with the outcome of the season, but I am looking to buy some young guns before the transfer deadline passes because there are some older guys in the team.

All in all, good season for us. (Y)
