The Wand Ran Out of Magic
October 29, 2006
Recap:
The Magic season opener was finally played, against and up can coming
and young
Celtics team led by
Paul Pierce. The first half was absolutely
terrible for the
Magic. After grabbing an early lead, the wheels just flew
off in the second. Dwight Howard couldn't make the freethrows. No big
surprise right? But wait even Adam Morrison couldn't hit free throws and
his shots were falling into the crowd. After the half, the young Magics
battled and went on a
10-0 run led by
Dwight Howard, but was then
nullified by the
Celtics who also went on a
10-0 to close out the quarter.
The Magic looked down and out. They started the forth quarter with
3
straight
turnovers which lead to
5 Celtics points.
Adam and Dwight then
tried to bring the team back, and for a second they looked like the Magic
were going to climb the hill and win, but those thoughts were shattered
when
Gerald Green stole the ball from Adam and just
jammed it down on
Hedo Turkoglu, which then sparked another
big run to just put the Magic
out of the game.
+Injury Report+
It looks like
Grant Hill suffered a
right leg injury and left the game at the
3 minute mark of the second quarter after only playing 5 minutes on the
floor. It didn't look too serious but he didn't return for the rest of the game.
The Magic Analysis:
The Magic did an amazing job rebounding the ball, but they couldn't finish
and get the points. There was a point in the game where the Magic got
4 chances to score and flopped on all floor times. The freethrow shooting
were just terrible. D. Howard did not improve at all in the offseason. Adam
Morrison, a leader or just another trigger happy shooter? Adam took way
to many shots and only sank 11 of the 30 and only finished with 25 points
which is not what you would expect from 30 shots. The bench didn't show
up and Hedo Turkoglu was playing a different game. The only bright side
are the high Magicians, D2, Darko and Dwight. Who said Darko was a
bust? This kid was a dominating force in the paint on both sides of the
court and Dwight has learned to score efficiently by just jamming it down
on his defender. The Magic better wish these 2 keep it up or the Magic
will be in huge trouble.
