what is jbl doing on commentary? seriously, if he doesnt leave, i plan to watch smackdown on mute next week. come to think of it, there's really no reason to watch smackdown at all. jbl's overly-biased commentary is annoying, vito's new gimmick is shit, as is booker's, and they no longer have kennedy doing the ring announcing, instead he just says his name. great khali and mark henry continue to squash cruiserweights, and there are no rivalries whatsoever on smackdown.

rumor has it that shawn michaels will be retiring early in 07, along with taker and kane. {SPOILER}Glen Jacobs will be replaced by Drew Hankinson, allowing the Kane character to continue after Jacobs' retirement. Glen has been leaving spoilers/clues on his myspace.{END SPOILER}

I don't much care for that idea, if it's true. I guess it's clever in a way but I think it would be better to let the character end. :lame:

I find that hard to believe. I hope it's right, but wrestlers have the tendency to hold on too long.

No question, very few wrestlers ever truly retire until they physically can't go anymore. How many "last" matches have Hulk Hogan, Terry Funk and Mick Foley had now? Not that it isn't cool to see those guys pop up every once in a while but they should cut out the "last match" billing; it would seem to be a promise they simply can't keep in professional wrestling.

You can expect LOTS more fiction/supernatural themed elements on the ECW show in the coming weeks.

Andrew wrote:Sounds like their hands are going to be tied by appearing on the Sci Fi Network

Maybe that's the reason for this one:
The Sandman was originally booked to cane an alien last night, but The Sci Fi Network didn't want an alien getting beat up on their network.

Looks like the Sci-Fi Network has PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Aliens) members

Has anyone in here read Ric Flair's or Jerry Lawler's biography? I might plan on buying (paperback) it along with Stone Cold's.
Just wanted to know some opinions if it's crap or not.
I've always been interested with the Nature Boy's career, as for Stonecold it's a no-brainer, Lawler's might be interesting after reading the blurbs on the back of the book.

I think I just killed some of my brain cells just by browsing Chyna's book and reading the blurbs on Hogan's book.

- After 9 months from a hernia injury, Rene Dupree is currently on his way to making his in-ring return. Recently in a local Canadian newspaper, the wrestler stated that he is preparing for his comeback by working for his father’s independent wrestling promotion. He also went to saying that he recently signed a new 5 year contract with the WWE.

hopefully he's on smackdown.

hey, SG. where are you planning to buy the book. so far i've only seen one bookstore selling wrestling books in the philippines.

I'm interested in getting the book "Are we there yet". Seems interesting reading about their travels on the road

I particularly enjoyed the opening segment with McMahon. It reminded me a lot of some of the comedy bits they did during the Attitude era, a welcome change from the cheesy or just plain unfunny stuff they've been doing in recent times.

I've read a lot of complaints that the last raw seem like the attitude era with too much promos and skits and less wrestling. saw the dx skit on youtube and it was quite funny. or maybe it was the nostalgia...

As opposed to the post-Attitude era where there's a whole lot of promos and skits and less wrestling? Those fans are entitled to their opinions and all but I don't quite see it the same way. Even though the Attitude era did see a lot of skits and promos, at least they were better than many of the offerings we've seen from around 2002 onwards.

indeed. in fact, given the quality of their matches, i'd rather see more skits. tna can more than fill in the actual wrestling quota, thankyou very much.

i was hoping like hell for a mysterio screwjob win tonight, just because the result (seemed) so obvious. especially with the rumors of putting the belt on henry floating around. never thought for a minute though that they'd actually do it. obviously a clean win would completely destroy mark henry's (little) credibility.

JBL has much improved as a commentator, however I still think he has a fair way to go. His accent I find really annoying, but that's one thing i guess he can't change.

Anyway, time for my usual news posting:

--WWE is close to finalizing 'World Wrestling Federation' trademark. It's going through the 'opposition' phase.

--NFL Properties LLC, Baltimore Ravens Limited Partnership and Scott Levy himself are opposing TNA's trademark of "RAVEN".

--NBC's website has confirmed that Saturday Night's Main Event on July 15th will air in prime time, beginning at 8 PM.

--Victoria recently mentioned in an interview with "Up and Coming Magazine" that she was the one who injured Beth Pheonix on RAW two weeks ago. Phoenix didn't get injured from hitting her face with her own knee like many presumed. Victoria injured her with a slap. "It was an accident. A lot of people thought she hit her face with her knee," Victoria said. "What happened was I slapped her mouth was open, and when I hit her, my palm was open and I guess the force of it, I hit her palm heavy."

--Due to personal substance abuse issues, Chris Masters has been taken off WWE television. Masters is also seeking help and treatment in regards to his problems. He has been off the road since late may.

Cena interview on Connan O'Brian

--WWE superstar John Cena was a guest on Late Night With Connan O'Brian Wednesday night. Cena was the second guest of the night and was on after commedian Adam Sandler.

The segment began with a clip of Cena giving the F-U to the Big Show. Cena came out and shook hands with Connan. They began by commenting on the clip, both men saying how massive the Big Show is.

Cena talked about how on RAW he was knocked out by a "Genie" [Sabu] who smashed him in the head with a TV monitor and then gave him a top rope legdrop through a table. Cena laughed about how "only in sports entertainment" are you gonna see a violent genie.

Next they talked about wrestlers special moves. Cena told the story of how the "You can't see me" taunt started off as a joke between Cena and his brother. One day, his brother did "You can't see me" and John responded by saying - "just you wait - I'm gonna get that on television". Both Cena and Connan had fun doing the hand guesture multiple times.

Cena talked about how he and his friends are always daring eachother to do crazy things. Cena tells a story of a time he was dared into drinking out of a dirty puddle on the street. He also tells the story of a time he was at a canot and was dared to participate - he wound up stripping, doing a full poll routine and hanging upsidedown.

Connan mentioned how great he thought it was that John Cena had a unique ring outfit - wearing jeans instead of speedos. Cena said it was his own way of doing wrestling gear - and equated it to how basketball shorts have gotten longer over the years.

--Dave Scherer reports that there are several debuts set for the ECW house show this Saturday at the ECW Arena including Francine, Test, and CM Punk.

--Privately, several ECW wrestlers have that stated that they are miserable. Others are having flashbacks to the infamous WCW Invasion and the Alliance. The reality of how it's going to be in the new ECW is starting to dawn on them.

--Kurt Angle is still upset that management moved him down to ECW. However, he's being professional about it and will try to make it work.

--The age of the average ECW viewer that watched last week's ECW show is 32.3 years old. The average Sci-Fi Channel viewer is 48 years old.

--Dave Meltzer reports that Dustin Runnels (Goldust) missed the 6/12 Raw show in State College, PA after appearing in court without telling management and was released.

--Stephanie McMahon pitched to Vince McMahon a DX vs. Evolution battle at this year's Summerslam. Although nothing has been confirmed, apparently the DX reunion went better than expected, and the general backstage feeling is that the group will last probably to the end of the year. Shawn Micheals planned to take a ring absence after Vengence however, he nixed the idea and decided to work a limited schedule throughout the summer. Due the lack of details, many are clueless at this point about Batista, not only is he on Smackdown, he is also face-so is Ric Flair. The faction of Evolution would include Batista, Orton, and Flair unless WWE plans to go with Flair and Orton as the only two members of Evolution. X-pac is scheduled is make his DX return in the coming weeks possibly as soon as this Sunday's Vengence. We will try to keep you as updated as possible on the release of anymore details.

--WWE Saturday Night's Main Event will air on Monday July 17th at 3.30pm (EST) on Fox8 according to the latest Foxtel magazine.

I think their basis was the pre-attitude era wrestling...like the 80's or something...IMO nothing wrong with promos and skits as long as they're great
