XBoX 360

Even though I have been a loyal fan to Sony by buying all of it's consoles, I am thinking of buying a XBoX 360.

I never would have thought I'd be wanting to buy an XBoX, but I think the price of the Sony PlayStation 3 is too expensive and I just don't get why.

In America, the PS3 will cost around AU$800 for the 60GB one. If you buy it here it is AU$999 for the 60GB one. (Prices)

I also wanted to try something new and I heard that Microsoft will drop the price of the XBoX 360 by AU$200 near the release of the PS3. Even though I won't wait until the PS3 is released for the price to drop that much to buy the XBoX.

Hopefully it will drop abit in the next month.

Although, my brother will buy a PlayStation 3 (from here, or America, wherever it's cheaper) he told me to get the XBoX 360.

I don't know if I should get the XBoX 360 or just wait until my brother get's the PlayStation 3. The XBoX 360 does seem good and from the games I've played (I've only played games at the shops) it seems that it's well worth it's money.

I will also be getting a LCD hopefully soon and that should be good for either one of those consoles.

If anyone has any comments on the XBoX 360 and how it performs (Matthew and all the other 360 owners) and if I should buy one or just wait until we get the PlayStation 3, please comment because this will help my decision.

I'm in a similar situation I guess. The PS3 in my opinion is to expensive, and I could never justify spending that much on a console. I don't play games much anymore so I think the 360 is a perfect solution. All I really want it for is to play nba2k6 and some other sports titles and first person shooters etc. I'm going to purchase the 360 after my exams finish in 2 weeks, and probably by a 19inch widescreen monitor as well to view the games in HD.

Same for me. Xbox 360 first and then probably the ps3, depends on the financial situation.

Srbija, The 360 was worth it to me becuase of halo 3. I knew i was going to get the X360 becuase of that game alone, so i got it sooner rather than later.

However, I seriously doubt the console will drop to $200 within the next 2-3 years.

The good aspect to the 360:
High Definition Gaming (graphics and sounds are awesome)
Halo 3
Xbox live
The price

Bad aspects:
Price of games (its ok if you have ps2 or xbox games to trade in, but if you dont its quite expensive for games)
some games require a 60hz tv (like obvlivion, but this is easily adjusted)
There was a pretty bad launch lineup, but there are some great games comming through now

Also remember that games released on both systems will have the same engine, so games like live and madden and nba 2k wont see any differences apart from loading times mainly.

I have had no regrest with the 360, but thats just becuase ive gotten really good games and taken back the shit ones. I find it ammusing how when people dont like it, you ask what games they are playing and its far cry or nba live. those games are shockingly bad for the 360.

To be honest, I'm highly considering boycotting the PS3 bandwagon and hoping on the Xbob 369 bandwagon.. because of Matthew's strong case of having the same game engine thingy and it being cheaper.

I'm definitely buying a Wii though. Does the xbob 360 have support for PC Monitor cable thingy or do I have to get a convertor because I want to use my LCD PC monitor for it. If not, I'll get a widescreen LCD TV like Matthew suggested in another thread. The other day I saw an Acer 81cm LCD TV for $1699 at Dick smith Powerhouse and I was like AHH!!!11!!

Oh sorry haha, I didn't even see your previous post because I posted just after you.

I want to get an LCD TV and I can get this good one for around AU$850. The main reasons I want to get this one are:

1. Very cheap and is 27"
2. High Definition/Widescreen (my current TV in my bedroom is good but takes up alot of space and dosen't have HD and isn't widescreen)
3. I saw Matthew's LCD on his Titans website and the pictures that he took with his camera look great.

Yea one thing that people seem to forget is that regardless of the performance differences between ps3 and 360 is that games like Live that are made for both look the same. The possible differences can only be seen in exclusive games, but since they are exclusive you can never tell the difference..?

I'm also still stalling because there is no used games. If ps3 makes illegal to buy used games, xbox 360 is my choice. Well, it will be it anyway.

Just a quick question that is somewhat related. If you buy a game and take it back cause your not enjoying it/ happy with it whatever, how much do you get back? Full price (i'm guessing that its unlikely) or a certain percentage.

Reason why I'm asking is Target was selling the X360 (the $650AU model with wireless controller and HDD) with Kameo, Tony Hawk American Wasteland, and Gun for $750. I was thinking of getting that then getting rid of Kameo (not my kind of game) and Gun (same as previous) and putting the difference towards NBA2k6 and COD2. Just wondering whether it will be beneficial.

I have actually played both those games on PS2 and I must say that Gun is the better of the two, but both are highly enojoyable.

Well I'm kinda 50/50 about keeping Gun, doesn't really appeal to me, but I'll have a go and see what I think.

Kameo on the other hand, more likely to use that as a coaster than actually play it.

Ty, I think at EB there is a 7 day full-refund/trade policy (don't know if it is trade only)....if you get the Target one & don't like one of the games then you can only trade it in at trade value which might be $40-$60 so you might want to find out about those games first....

Srbija, XBox360 will be dropping their prices for PS3 launch without a doubt, but it will not be by $200....why? because they don't need to....if PS3 was launching at $700 we would see XBox360 drop their prices more, but alas....I'm gonna talk to my mate at EB to see if any price drops are on the way but I can't really see them dropping the price (AUD$649) until the PS3 release in November....I think it will be down at about $579 for PS3 release....XBox might drop their price $20 sometime inbetween now & then but I really don't see the point as it's easy to piss out $20....

I'm probably gonna get an XBox 360 in about 3 weeks after my exam is done....will definitely get 2k6 at the same time....will also get Dynasty Warriors 5 Empires when it comes out at the end of the month

although you never know, if new info comes to light between now & then I could hold off until 2k7 comes out....will see how I feel at the time....

probably won't get XBox Live (& broadband) up-and-running until New Year when I move places....maybe to coincide with NBA2k7 release....

I'm in the same exact situation. The graphics are the same in my opinion and by my birthday in september i can get a 360.

The x, it is a full refund as well, but i usually just swap a game over rather than get my money back. Also give oblivion a look if you get a 360. Awesome game.

yeah, I might give it a look....my mate at EB said it was pretty good....I noticed at EB that the XBox 360 is down to $625....probably a $50 drop in November at most I'd say....

Down to $625, nice! Only 10 days until exams are finished then the big splurge. Been hunting down some good deals, but that's the best I've seen so far.

Well I went out and got my X360 last night. Must admit it has been an up and down experience. The console is working fine and everything, got it all set up with my home theatre system etc. Only problem is my 78cm TV (which is about 10 years old) won't play NBA 2k6 because it doesnt accept PAL-60 standard. ONly newer TV's allow this which is a pain in the arse.

So what to do???? Well I called my parents and I'm going to swap my TV (which used to be theres) with there spare one (in their bedroom, dad bought a massive plasma last year in the lounge) which will work. So until next week when I can get home I can't play 2k6.

Anyway the set-up I got was
- X360
- 2 wireless controllers
- plug anc charge kit + extra battery
- S-VID cables
- NBA2k6 (anticipation is killing me)
- FIFA World Cup 2006

Gonna go pick up Call of Duty 2 in the couple of days, get the TV middle of next week and away I go.

Other than the TV issue everything has been perfect, graphics have been impressive (even on SDTV), DVD playback is solid, controller are nice, and the setup was dead simple. So mow I'm justing counting down the days until I can get that TV (which we allow me to pay at 720p as well!!!)

Well I got the premium console set + FIFA World Cup 2006 for $700AU. The I got NBA2k6 for $80, Plug and Play kit $30, 2nd wireless controller $70, battery pack $17. So all up around $900. There's a lot of specials out there, especially package deals like the World Cup one I got. Also Toy's R Us have got a lot of packages that are pretty good value if your looking.

The price sounds pretty good if you ask me. $900 is a bargain IMO for the things you got.
