Windows Vista Transformation Pack

Postby Axel on Tue May 30, 2006 7:17 am

If you're like me and too cheap to actually buy windows vista, here's a nice way to get something similar to it without actually paying anything. It's called the Vista Transformation pack, and it comes with all of the toolbars, screensavers, desktops, etc that Vista comes with. I think there are some things missing from it, but overall its a nice upgrade from windows XP.

Here's the link for it...

And here's what my desktop looks like now with it added.... there are more features than just customizing desktops btw.

Strangely enough, I JUST downloaded this.

I got rid of everything though, except for the visual styles, and the icons. I also didn't like the font. It did a great job except I found it hard to see a lot of things on the computer, it also slowed it down a bit I found. I really like the theme though... I think I have the same one on as you.

RECOMMENDATION: Make a system restore point before you install. The uninstaller isn't perfect.

Does this use up much memory and how much space does it take?

I'm not sure... it hasn't slowed my computer down much, but I have a lot of memory.

@ Cameron

I noticed the same thing, that things were hard to see. There was a component installed called "Glass 2k" which makes your windows semi transparent. If you set your PC so that doesn't come up on system start up, the windows are opaque.

You can just get Windowblinds 5 and download a skin from Wincustomize.com. It has all the transparencies and such. Google it.

Windowblinds isn't free. I have used it before, but I prefer this because like I said, there is more to it that just a change of the toolbars. I like the sounds and how it changes during bootup. Windowblinds also gave my computer problems, some of the blinds were buggy.

You must have been doing something wrong because I have never had problems with it. My bootup and stuff has also changed to a Vista version and the sounds and icons are all different. As you said, however, it isnt "free".

Axel, how'd you get rid of the trashcan on your desktop? I know how to remove the "My Computer", "My Documents", etc. but not the trashcan?

ck, I downloaded a tiny program called "hideicons" which allows you to turn icons on or off by clicking a little thing in the taskbar. It's only 12 KB or so, not much lost as far as performance. You can also do the same thing Jugs mentioned, but I liked the little program because you can toggle back and forth quicker.

Two things missing?
DirectX 10 and no OpenGL.
DRM.

You might not find it a "nice upgrade" if you got those two things.

Oh yea it's free. :shifty: I got a vista skin and it's pretty cool. It's white and black. One of the cool things about windowblinds is you can go in (well I have skinstudio too) and customize it however you want.
