Another 2K6 post, I know. But Doobie and myself thought it would be a great idea to put together a thread that recaps our games on XBox Live. Anyways, our formula for choosing teams is to hit the "Random" button three times and whatever team pops up; we use. On to our first game!

Recap

The opening two quarters was a seesaw battle between the two teams, particularly Gasol and Duncan. No team had more than a 6 point advantage. Gasol was an absolute beast in the first half, just annihiliating opposing forwards in the low post with layups, dunks, and the occasional hookshot. On the other end, he was a defensive stalwart, swatting 3 shots in the first half - two of them being Ginobili's layups. Chucky Atkins was a menace on defense too, intercepting several alley oop attempts by Tony Parker. Despite this the score at halftime was 36-33 in favor of the Spurs.

Players at the Half:

Tim Duncan - 11 points on 5-8 shooting
Pau Gasol - 13 points on 5-9 shooting, to go along with 3 blocks

The third quarter was deja vu once again, with Duncan and Gasol leading the charge for their respective teams. As well, they had additional help from Tony Parker and Chucky Atkins who were lights out from three point land.

The fourth quarter saw the Spurs start to pull away from the Grizz. Parker and Duncan worked the pick & roll to perfection several times; two of the baskets being dunks. When the Grizzlies attempted to guard Duncan, Parker spotted up and hit the three.

Spurs win this one 79-73.

5 minute quarters and yeah we have headsets. We don't really trash talk though, we just talk about stupid shit like his fascination for anal sex and fat girls. He's pretty calm when he plays but I'm the opposite. If I start getting blown out I tend to punch the TV and throw my controller on the ground

For two teams with prolific three point shooters in Michael Redd, Ray Allen and Rashard Lewis, you would think either one of these teams would come firing right off the bat. Wrong. In the first quarter, both teams could not hit a basket to save their lives. Michael Redd was held in check surprisingly by Ray Allen, but his teammates, Andrew Bogut and Jamal Magloire did an outstanding job of grabbing offensive boards and scoring on a lot of second chance points. The second quarter still saw Redd struggle, having double teams thrown at him everytime he caught the ball, but once again his teammates bailed him out with offensive boards and second chance points. As for the Sonics, Ray Allen started to come alive with several key jumpers, including one that beat the buzzer before halftime. The halftime score was 27-25. And yes, this was the Bucks against the Sonics.

Players at the Half:

Ray Allen - 11 points on 5-10 shooting
Michael Redd - 8 points on 4-14 shooting

Some interesting statistics as well:

Bucks shot 12/35 from the field, Sonics shot 11/25
Bucks grabbed 22 rebounds, Sonics only grabbed 11

Of those 22 rebounds the Bucks grabbed, 12 of them were offensive
Of those 12 offensive rebounds, 5 of them came from Jamal Magloire (he had 6 rebounds in total)

The Bucks had 12 points off 2nd chance buckets, Sonics only had 2
The Bucks also had 20 points in the paint, Sonics had 8.

The second half was a little more high scoring than the first. In the first half we saw Michael Redd virtually on lock while Ray Allen seemed to be finding his groove. The roles were switched this time around as Ray Allen was hounded by double teams. Every shot he attempted was contested. However, he stepped up his passing game, working the pick & roll to perfection with Chris Wilcox that led to three consecutive facials to the Bucks frontcourt. As for Redd, he got hot nailing open threes, scoring on drives, layups, the whole enchilada. He got lots of help from his backcourt mate TJ Ford who kept drawing fouls and finding the open man. The Bucks finally pulled away with 2:30 left in the 4th quarter and never looked back. Bucks win this one, 79-65:

Bucks killed the Sonics in rebounding. Bucks grabbed 39, 15 of them being offensive. Sonics only grabbed 24.

How do you guys play? Do you try and keep it realistic or just attack the hoop whenever you can?

no, we're pretty realistic which is why it's pretty fun. we like to spread the ball around, that's why you don't see eye popping numbers like 50 points on 20-23 shooting. and believe it or not, on XBL it's actually pretty hard to attack the hoop (unless it's open and a clear lane) and be successful, either:

a.) you'll get called for the charge
b.) the ball rattles out or you get your shit stuffed

having said that though, when one player gets hot, we try to use that player to our advantage. unfortunately for me, his players got hot at the right time when it counted.

Recap

Sloppy is the best way to describe the opening quarter. The Heat started the game off with a quick 6-0 run. The Suns managed to make a run of their own soon-after, with all of their points coming off free throws. Unfortunately for the heat, the person who picked up most of the fouls was Shaq and he was quickly designated to the bench soon after. Dwyane Wade lead the Heat in scoring in the first quarter with 6 points and 2 assists while Shawn Marion scored 4 and grabbed 4 rebounds. The start of the second quarter was reminiscent of the first with sloppy plays from both ends. The ball was constantly being turned over by both teams on the court. However despite all ths, the Heat managed to pull out a quick 10-1 run to start off the quarter. Foul trouble once again started to plague both teams as Shaq, Marion and Jason Williams all picked up 3 quick fouls before halftime. The Suns could never muster a run of their own as their point guard Steve Nash could not seem to get his groove going. He was being pestered by the backcourt duo of Wade and Payton. His teammates could not provide him help either. At half time, what was once a 18-13 Heat advantage turned out to a 50-32 lead.

Gary Payton - 11 points on 3-3 shooting, 5-5 from the charity stripe
Raja Bell - 10 points on 4-9 shooting

Overall team statistics at the half:

Suns shot 13/30 from the floor - Heat shot 20/27
The Suns uncharacteristically had only 9 assists at the half, the Heat had 14
The Suns turned the ball over 11 times, the Heat turned the ball over 8
The Suns only had 2 points off the bench while the Heat had 17; 11 coming from the Glove himself.

The third quarter saw the Heat start off with a 14-2 run, with the majority of the baskets either coming down Shaq and Wade. The lead eventually got up to 30 that is until Leandro Barbosa came in. Barbosa came off the bench with guns a'blazing, hitting 7-9 shots, 3-5 from 3, for a total of 17 points for the quarter.

Barbosa continued his heroics in the 4th quarter, scoring 19 points. At one point, what was once a 30 point Heat lead evaporated to only a 13 point advantage. Unfortunately for the Suns, Barbosa could not lift his team to a comeback victory as Wade and Payton continued finding teammates for open shots. The Heat win this one, 101-77.
