2006 Summer Transfers Talk

I figured I should just make one big thread to discuss all the potential big name moves in pro soocer/football instead of posting a bunch of mini-threads. A stroke of genius? I doubt it.

Anyways....

Sol Campbell seems to be on the move to where? Turkey?

Image
Seen celebrating his goal in the CL Final.

Yes you heard me correctly. He's been in talks with Fenerbahce and he is seriously considering the move. I've also heard elsewhere that Arsenal could receive as much as 8 mil for the switch.

Diego Forlan leaving Villareal?

Image

The 2005 top scorer in La Liga could be in Barca colors by the end of the week. Barca are supposedly swooping him up from Villareal for 15 mil. euros as the replacement to Henrik Larsson.

Linkage: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2006/s ... index.html

Anyways, thats all for now. Feel free to discuss or mention any other big name transfers.

Great stroke of genius (Y) As I posted in the other thread...
Inter want Van Nistelrooy but he is saying that he loves Man United and doesn't want to discuss his postition there untill after the world cup
http://home.skysports.com/list.asp?hlid=389141&CPID=8&clid=366&lid=2&title=Ruud+in+the+dark+over+situation

Campbell has had a rocky season this year and I think that he would like to come back from it at Arsenal, if he does leave Arsenal I don't really see him going to Turkey

You're a bit late on the Van der vaart news Chris, that happened a year ago  he's played well for them and scored a surprising amount of goals for a midfielder.

Apparentely Andy Reid could be on his way out of Tottenham... I remember when he was playing for Nottingham Forest and every team and their dog wanted him, Man U were rumoured to be forking out over 6 million at one stage. He's kinda fizzled out a bit.

Probably my all time favourite player Rui Costa is going to Benfica it seems... they could lose a stack of players, Simao, Petit, Geovanni etc.

Arsenal are reported to have signed Czech Republic midfielder Tomas Rosicky from Borussia Dortmund.

It was claimed in Rosicky's homeland the 25-year-old had passed a medical in London and signed a contract with the Gunners.

The playmaker will play for the Czechs at the World Cup this summer and has scored 15 goals in 53 appearances for his country.

According to the reports, he was allowed to leave the Czech training camp in Austria to finalise the transfer.

Rosicky had been expected to sign for Atletico Madrid, with whom he had been repeatedly linked.

The 25-year-old cost Dortmund £18million when he joined from Sparta Prague in 2001 - a Bundesliga record.

Wenger and Co seem to be pretty busy these days.

Fernando Torres for Van Nistelrooy and cash?

Image Image

The People newspaper reported "Sir Alex Ferguson is ready to swap Ruud van Nistelrooy for Fernando Torres in a sensational summer move". "Atletico Madrid have told the Manchester United boss they want van Nistelrooy plus £14.5million for Torres, rated the No.1 striker in Spain," the paper added.

http://www.manutd.com/news/fullstory.sp ... tegoryid=0

I'd much rather see this guy move to Barcelona as he is more suited for Spanish Footbal imo. Man United wouldnt be too bad but I think he will struggle a bit at first. I'd be surprised if he made the move.

Atletico Madrid :headbang: with Torres and Kezman.

Torres is young and is an awesome footballer. If he moved to Man U they would have another young superstar joining them. (Vidic, C.Ronaldo etc.)

If Forlan went to Barca, he wouldn't get as much playing time because Eto'o would be their first choice.

Feyenoord striker Dirk Kuyt has expressed a desire to join Newcastle United.

The Holland international is among Magpies manager Glenn Roeder's top transfer targets as he prepares for his first full season in charge.

Roeder revealed his admiration for the 25-year-old in April and confirmed he was having the prolific hit-man scouted.

The Newcastle boss has now been given the incentive to pursue his interest after Kuyt confirmed a wish to move to St James' Park.

"I would love to play in the North East," stated Kuyt.

"When I was young, I loved Italian football, but only because van Basten, Rijkaard and Gullit were playing for AC Milan.

"Now, I'd rather play in England. I love English football. I also think my style of play is completely right for The Premiership.

"A club like Newcastle would be my dream."

Kuyt would arrive in The Premiership with cast-iron credentials after hitting at least 20 goals in each of the past four seasons.

He is unlikely to come cheap, however, and Roeder is likely to have to persuade Newcastle chairman Freddy Shepherd to spend in excess of £10 million to bring Kuyt to Tyneside.

Does anyone know about Kuyt? Never heard of him.

Newcastle are going through a big transition phase with Alan Shearer retiring, I doubt Owen can follow in his foot steps and not totally sure about Kuyt but I could be wrong.

Crystal Palace chairman Simon Jordan has told Sky Sports News that he would consider selling star striker Andrew Johnson but only if it is for the betterment of the club.

Jordan has already revealed that he rejected bids from Wigan, Everton and Bolton for Johnson, who was given leave of absence from England training for 'unspecified reasons' on Monday.

England's stand-by caught the eye of top flight clubs when he scored 21 goals in The Eagles' forlorn bid for Premiership survival in season 2004/05.

Now a trio of English clubs have firmed up that interest with serious offers but Jordan, who confirmed that Bolton have made the highest bid, at £8 million, will weigh up the possible sale of the club's leading asset before sanctioning any transfer.

"Andrew has a five-year contract and a five-year contract means a five-year contract but the situation has changed," said Jordan.

"Andrew is a very much sought after commodity and if I believe that selling Johnson for the right amount of money is the best thing to do for the club and the funds can be used to develop a team that is capable of getting out of this division at the second time of asking and the first time under a new manager then I will sell Andrew Johnson.

"But if it is better for us to keep him then I will do that.

"It will not be simply a financial decision, it will be what is best for this football club.

"On the converse this team isn't simply AJ. He's a big part of it because he scores a lot of our goals and gets the headlines.

"But this team has other talented players in it as well."

Elaborating on the offers he has received for Johnson so far, Jordan revealed that bids starting at £6 million have been tabled, with Bolton upping the ante with a more sizeable offer.

"We've had offers from a number of clubs going from £6 million to £8 million - people are obviously desiring to get Andrew but whether they succeed or not is another matter," added Jordan.

"Bolton did [bid £8 million]. [Trotters chairman] Phil Gartside's very easy to deal with and very honourable in the way he does business. I don't want to play with these people.

"I want to consider the situation after I've spoken to the player.

"Without sounding confrontational, I will control this process and I won't sell him for anything less than I think he's worth. And I may not even sell him."

Andy Johnson's not a superstar striker but he's one of those guys that does well in the premiership or rather english football. I think he'll make a good second or third option on most teams.

Gabri has received a substantial offer from a London-based Premiership club after announcing that he will be leaving Barcelona this summer, according to his agent.

I hope its not Chelsea.

Glenn Roeder is not surprised that Newcastle United have been linked with a move for Tottenham Hotspur striker Jermain Defoe.

England international Defoe was put forward as a transfer target for The Magpies after Spurs agreed a deal to sign Bayer Leverkusen hot shot Dimitar Berbatov.

Defoe endured a frustrating season at White Hart Lane and spent a prolonged period playing second fiddle to Mido and Robbie Keane.

He has expressed his frustration at the situation and was linked with a switch to St James' Park in the summer.

Thats sad, I cant believe they would prefer Berbatov over Defoe although I think he's been quite disgruntled with the team now and then. Newcastle seem to be in the rumors of every striker out there. :?

Yeah I do, he was the man in Dutch football for a while as far as strikers go. Being chased by everyone but I think his team basically priced him out of the market. His form must've dropped recently or something because his name isn't being mentioned as much.

I would've taken Defoe over Berbatov too... 10 million they paid for him, I reckon he'll be a collosal waste of money.

ZLATAN WAITS FOR REAL BID - REPORT

Juventus striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic is hoping Real Madrid follow up their interest in him.

The Swedish international hitman is one of the hottest properties in Europe after enhancing his reputation since moving to Turin from Ajax.

Spanish daily Marca claims Barcelona are interested in the World Cup star, but they also have other options as they bid to replace another Swede Henrik Larsson.

But the paper says in any case Ibrahimovic would prefer to move to the Spanish capital to join the ranks of Los Galacticos.

It seems likely Zlatan will be on his way out of the Stadio Delle Alpi this summer with Juve's immediate future uncertain because of the Italian match-fixing scandal.

And he's reportedly told his agent he won't do anything about his future until he knows whether Real will bid for him.

It's expected that he wouldn't cost more than 20million Euros (around £14million).

I feel Madrid should be looking for solid defenders before they go and sign any more attackers. I would make Zlatan slide though since he is a class striker but I hope to see them solidify their back line.

AC Milan striker Andriy Shevchenko has held more talks with Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich.

The Ukraine international will return to Milan tomorrow from Kiev, where he is reported to have held more discussions with Abramovich over a £35 million move to Stamford Bridge.

It's understood that the fans' favourite has been made aware of the 10,000-plus signed online petition organised by Milan supporters in the last week (visit petition.acmilan-online.com for more information).

Shevchenko will hold a media conference in Milan on Thursday to make public his decision over whether to stick or twist.

Ruud's future undecided until after World Cup

soccerway.com wrote:Dutch striker Ruud van Nistelrooy says his future with Manchester United will not be decided until after the World Cup.

Van Nistelrooy was expelled from United’s hotel by manager Sir Alex Ferguson before the club’s final Premiership match, saying he was having a negative effect on team chemistry.

The two have not spoken since and United have put a £10 million price tag on the prolific Dutchman.

He concedes, however, that no decision will be made regarding his future – with United or a possible transfer - until after the World Cup.

"Nothing is going to happen until after the World Cup," he said.

"I have two years left on my contract and if things stay the way they are at the moment I will still be at the club next season.

"But I am not naive. The fact I wasn't involved in the last Premiership game or Roy Keane's testimonial was not a good sign."

Chelsea, Inter Milan, AC Milan, Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United have all been linked with moves for the striker.

skysports.com wrote: Roberto Carlos to decide on future after World Cup; Chelsea or Real?

Real Madrid ace Roberto Carlos claims he has been offered a three-year deal by Chelsea.

The Brazilian international revealed earlier this month that Chelsea were chasing his signature.

The attacking full back has just over one year to run on his contract at El Santiago Bernabeu and he is waiting to see if Real will offer him an extension.

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is thought to have made a new left back one of his top priorities and Carlos is his main target.

The 33-year-old, who is away with Brazil at their World Cup training camp, insists he will make a decision over his future after the finals in Germany next month.

"The problem is not financial, the problem is the length of the contract and my motivation to play football," said Carlos.

"Chelsea have made a good offer and are offering three years of contract instead of one year more with Real Madrid.

"I hope to get a reply from Real Madrid to re-negotiate my contract, if not I'm going to look for somewhere else.

"I want to have a good World Cup and, three or four weeks later, I hope to have decided whether I stay at Real Madrid or go to Chelsea."

I thought Chelsea said that after the Ballack and Shev (potentially) signing they were going for youth. I dont understand what they are thinking with this move, How many more years in football do they believe this guy has?

Carlos to Chelsea  .With all of that Abramoviches money they are going to be a soccer dream team in less then 5 years. The only other move they need now is to getting Ronaldinho.I sure didn't think that Chelsea to do this move oh well.If Carlos makes this move to Chelsea they will probably have the best defense in the world.

Heres another one.

skysports.com wrote:Pires set to lace up for Villareal

Robert Pires has reportedly agreed a two-year deal with Villarreal.

The Frenchman is out of contract at Arsenal this summer and has been tipped to leave for months.

He had been hopeful of landing a contract extension with The Gunners, but boss Arsene Wenger was reticent to hand him a long-term deal at the age of 32.

A key member of the Arsenal side for several years, Pires nevertheless struggled to hold down a regular place in the starting XI last term.

The arrival of Czech Republic midfielder Tomas Rosicky cast further doubt on his role in North London, and appears to have hastened his departure to Spain.

Villarreal, who Arsenal conquered in the UEFA Champions League semi-finals, have been the frontrunners to snap up Pires since the meeting between the two sides in April, although other offers were believed to be on the table.

Villarreal president Fernando Roig last week claimed that they had their man, and recent developments suggest that he has already undergone a medical and put pen-to-paper on a two-year deal.

The Yellow Submarines are expected to unveil Pires in the imminent future.

Chelsea said they wanted to sign three World Class players during this transfer window, I'm guessing that's Ballack, Shevchenko and Carlos if they can get him. He'll replace Del Horno, who was signed from his Spanish team for more than he's worth and has only been there a year  typical.

Liverpool have cut their losses on Fernando Morientes and sold the striker to Valencia.

Morientes' Anfield future has been the subject of intense scrutiny in recent weeks following a lacklustre time with The Reds.

His agent appeared to intimate earlier this week that the 30-year-old would see out the remaining two years on his contract with the Premiership club.

But Liverpool have now agreed to sell Morientes to Valencia for an undisclosed fee, after the forward was also linked with Real Betis and Espanyol.

Reds boss Rafa Benitez splashed out £6.3 million to bring Morientes to Merseyside from Real Madrid in January 2005.

Morientes, though, failed to provide a significant return on the investment as he mustered just 12 goals in 61 appearances.

He struggled to adjust to the demands of Premiership football and has now returned to La Liga, where he forged a reputation as one of the most consistent goalscorers in the European game.

The length of Morientes' contract has yet to be revealed and the move will be a boost to the player, who missed out on Spain's World Cup squad.

His last appearance for Liverpool was in the FA Cup final when he came on as a substitute in the penalty shoot-out success over West Ham United.

TURIN, May 25 (SW) - Despite the current scandal in Italian football, life goes on for Juventus. The Serie A champions have signed Cristiano Zanetti of Internazionale.

The 29-year-old midfielder was out of contract at Inter, where he made only 14 appearances this season.

"I am happy to have ended up at such a prestigious team," said the player who is re-united with coach Fabio Capello. The two also worked together at AS Roma, and won the national title in 2001.

Kinda funny that he moves to a side that might get relegated as a result of the huge scandal.

Chelsea are seriously pissing me off with all this buying, when the fuck will they settle with a group of players?

I wonder if they'll go after Beckham sooner or later, he'll bring his brainless wife and his big ass revenue and Japanese fans then Chelsea would be able to buy World XI Team 1, World XI Team 2 and World XI Team 3 if they wanted to. :x

I just hope they dont get Adu and screw him up.

When Manchester United dominated they were doing it with a roster full of players they mostly developed, not a bunch of international superstars that they buy like they were buying candy.

Crystal Palace have accepted an £8.5 million offer from Bolton Wanderers for striker Andy Johnson.

The Trotters' offer matches that made by Wigan Athletic just 24 hours earlier as the race for the England international hots up.

Sam Allardyce is keen to bring Johnson to The Reebok Stadium to add to the club's attacking options but looked to have missed out when Wigan were granted permission to talk with the 25-year-old.

Palace chairman Simon Jordan earlier this week announced at a press conference that there was interest in the striker, but none of the offers tabled had matched his valuation.

However, both Wigan and Bolton have now met Jordan's price and Johnson is expected to travel to the North West on Friday after playing for England B in a friendly against Belarus at Reading's Madejski Stadium on Thursday evening.

"Crystal Palace have accepted another bid for Andrew Johnson, after Bolton Wanderers offered £8.5 million for the player on Thursday," read a statement on Palace's official website.

"The offer from Sam Allardyce's side matches the one made on Wednesday by Wigan Athletic, and therefore the 25-year-old now has permission to speak to both Lancashire clubs."

Johnson's agent Leon Angel added: "He will meet the clubs who have offers accepted, and he will make his decision."

Everton and Portsmouth were also interested but they will have to match the offers tabled by Bolton and Wigan if they are to have any chance of snatching Johnson from under the noses of the two Lancashire sides.

Good signing by Bolton (y)

Lyn Oslo have refuted the latest reports which suggest Chelsea and Manchester United have reached a compromise regarding John Obi Mikel.

The Nigeria international is wanted by both Premiership clubs, with United seemingly having struck a deal 12 months ago.

Mikel claimed he was pressured into signing for The Red Devils and has stated that he wants to join champions Chelsea.

The matter is currently in the hands of Fifa, although recent reports have claimed that Chelsea have agreed to pay United £10 million for the young midfielder.

But Mikel's current club Lyn have revealed the African starlet has not been granted permission to complete a move to Stamford Bridge.

"John Obi Mikel is not all clear for Chelsea as the English media have claimed," Lyn director Morgan Andersen told TV Norge.

Mikel's agent John Shittu is also unaware of any settlement being agreed between Chelsea and United, and believes he will be the first to know when a resolution has been reached.

Shittu told VG: "I haven't heard anything about this and I am usually the first one who gets contacted about such matters."

Whats it with everyone wanting to go to Chelsea despite the likelyhood they will get sold next season or not even play much?

8.5 million is too much for Johnson IMO. He didn't even dominate the Championship last season, I would've paid 4.5 at most.

I think most signings are overpriced but I think he's a good signing for Bolton. He did well with Palace last time in the Premiership and he wasnt that bad last season in the Championship. But I agree with you, they did overpay him a couple of millions.

ESPN wrote:Shevchenko leaving at a price

AC Milan have accepted Andriy Shevchenko's transfer request but have warned Chelsea they must break the bank to land the Ukraine striker.

Shevchenko, 29, appeared alongside the Italian club's vice-president Adriano Galliani at their offices in Via Turati in downtown Milan at a hastily arranged press conference to announce his decision this afternoon.

Shevchenko said: 'I am leaving for family reasons - I want to thank the club for everything it's given to me.

'There's no problems regarding my relationship with anyone in the club or any financial problems.'

Galliani, in day-to-day control of the club owned by former Italian prime minister Silvio Berlusconi, said: 'It's a victory of the English language over the Italian language.'

That was apparently a reference to Shevchenko's American wife who reportedly wants a move to England.

'I've tried to convince him to stay - even one minute prior to the press conference,' continued Galliani.

'This is certainly the most painful divorce since I have been at Milan and from now on we will begin negotiations with Chelsea and it will not be easy.'

Shevchenko's goals helped Milan stay in the race for the Scudetto in the recently-completed season - they ultimately finished second behind Juventus - but was reportedly at odds with his coach, Carlo Ancelotti, on several occasions.

Chelsea, who also signed Germany captain Michael Ballack earlier in May, have been linked with the striker ever since the acquisition of the club by Russian owner Roman Abramovich.

Milan signed Shevchenko to a contract extension last year, which tied him to the Rossoneri until June 2009, after speculation Chelsea were about to make an approach.

Shevchenko, who will captain Ukraine at the World Cup this summer in Germany, turns 30 in September.

He joined Milan from Dynamo Kiev in 1999.

Shevchenko is the second top scorer in the history of AC Milan behind Gunnar Nordahl.

The Ukrainian has scored 173 goals in his seven years at the club and is a former winner of the Ballon d'Or.

'My wish is that the club can evaluate my transfer,' said Shevchenko. 'Of course I am saddened because I have seen the looks on the faces of the fans and because of the many messages I have received.

'My wife has nothing to do with this. We decided together for the best interests of our family.

'I don't speak English, my wife does not speak Ukrainian - the only language we have in common at the moment is Italian and the only way to be able to teach our children our love that we have for them is the English language.'

Shevchenko and his model wife Kristen Pazik have an 18-month old son called Jordan Andriy.

Heres another just because I hate quoting ESPN for news regarding football.

World Soccer News wrote:Milan will open talks with Chelsea after Andriy Shevchenko confirmed he will leave the Italian club this summer.

Shevchenko met with Milan vice president Adriano Galliani on Friday to discuss his future and after the meeting he said: "I'm leaving for family reasons.

"It wasn't a problem of relations and there is no economic problem."

Galliani added: "This is certainly the most painful divorce since I have been at Milan. We will begin negotiations with Chelsea and it will not be easy."

Shevchenko has an American wife and it is understood that they want their son Jordan to learn English, a language which Shevchenko himself doesn't speak.

It's a victory of the English language over the Italian language," admitted Galliani.

"I've tried to convince him to stay - even one minute prior to the press conference.

Milan offered Shevchenko a contract extension until 2011 but the lure of London proved too great to resist.

"My wish is that the club can evaluate my transfer," added the Ukraine international.

"Of course I am saddened because I have seen the looks on the faces of the fans and because of the many messages I have received.

"My wife has nothing to do with this. We decided together for the best interests of our family.

"I don't speak English, my wife does not speak Ukrainian - the only language we have in common at the moment is Italian.

"The only way to be able to teach our children our love that we have for them is the English language."

Shevchenko joined Milan from Dynamo Kiev in 1999 and is the second highest scorer in the club's history behind Gunnar Nordahl with 173 goals.

I kinda expected this but then again I was hoping he wouldnt go. Chelsea......I cant even say anything about them anymore since I'll probably sound bitter (hater? I dunno). Oh well, best of luck to him.

Those two arent really final but we will see. Alot of big names are moving as you say and I cant remember a time off the top of my head when so many were being mentioned. With the Italian scandal you may see alot of Juve players moving.
