There is no stat for how good of a leader someone is or how many double teams they draw to open up wide open drives for guys like Tony Parker and Manu Ginobli.

Though i agree with most of your points, there is also no stat for being a flopping whining cry baby like Manu Ginobili, he flops so much it makes me sick.

Garnett got double teamed a lot this year and kicked it out, the difference is his guy couldn't hit the open jumpers. If Marko Jaric, Anthony Carter and the other players could hit a shot Garnett wouldn't have ended his 20-10-5 streak.

The All-NBA Teams are for the best PLAYERS who had the BEST SEASON. Duncan is on a better team but Garnett had the better individual year.

to me there is no distinction. I would hardly call a player who didn't make the playoffs succesful.

The Spurs aren't better than the Wolves because of Duncan, they are better because they have the best coaching staff in the league along with the deepest team in the league.

excuse me, but the spurs ARE a better team because of duncan. Tell me exactly where pop was before duncan became a spur. Was he a good coach? yes, but nowhere near the coach he is perceived as today. I am not trying to take credit away from pop.... he is a good coach, and duncan is lucky to have him, but to discredit duncan because of him is as ridiculous as discrediting mj because he had phil.

Garnett put up some great stats, his team wasn't in the playoffs but what do you expect when you have a rookie head coach and no talent? Marko Jaric is too slow and too stupid to be a starting point guard, McCants struggled early on, Wally couldn't get his own shot and the team has no inside presence besides Garnett. Not to discredit Tim Duncan but he did not have a very good year. He was obviously bothered by that foot injury all season long.

if individual stats were the be all and end all marbury would be a perrenial first team, at worst 2nd team, all star every year (save this one). Winning percentage is as much and important a stat as ppg. Any mediocore player can put up good to great stats on a crap team.... see zach randolph..... its what those players do on a good team that define them. to be fair it is obvious garnett has an inferior cast relative to td, but all that is a hypothetical. You can't credit people for what they COULD be, and what they MIGHT do.... only for what they are. that said, imo the spurs would have never won a championship, or at least not as many, if td and kg were switched.

that said kg being left off at least the third team is a crime, and to a lesser degree I think td not being listed as c and making the first team one too.

You can't compare Zach Randolph and Stephon Marbury to Kevin Garnett. Garnett missed the playoffs this year but he made the playoffs for 8 straights by carrying his team on his back. He is no a guy who just puts up stats. In fact, his stats are worse when he is on a losing team. He isn't stat-stuffing at all.

The Spurs are a great team because of Duncan, but what I meant to say was the Spurs aren't better than the Wolves because they have Duncan. That isn't it. Garnett and Duncan practically cancel each other out. The Spurs are just the better team, period. You cannot argue against that. They have more talent and they have a better coaching staff.

There is no doubt in my mind that Garnett had the better season than Duncan this year. I honestly don't see how you can debate it. Duncan is a GREAT player but he was banged up all year and he had that stretch where he couldn't get a double double if his life depended on it. He looked a step slow out there in the regular season. Tony Parker carried that team offensively because of the way he got into the paint and created havoc. I think I saw enough Spurs games to determine that.

I guess we will decide to respectively disagree and move on, Maquis. I could see use going back and forth for days and we would just end up in the same spot. It was fun while it lasted.
