Discussion about NBA Live 2004.

I'm hoping that EA adds a feature where the computer detects if you have two players with the same last name, that person will receive his first initial on jersey.
Example:
R. Miller
B. Miller
This might not be that important but it isn't a tough task to do.

I was actually hoping for that too, but hadn't though about it for a while. I also want the whole numbers thing to be fixed of course. This is just to add a little bit of realism and can't be that hard to fix.

Yeah. I'm wishing that the CPU automatically changes a player's jersey number when CPU teams trade players in Dynasty Mode. For example, Ben Wallace is traded to the Lakers for Robert Horry. Ben Wallace and Devean George both use #3 so Wallace will be replaced with another jersey number. This helps us to stop doing it manually.

Unless there's a secondary number attribute, chances are an undesirable or generic (eg 5 to 6 or 5 to 4) number change would be made. I'd like them to take it a step further and allow you to designate a new number (if necessary) when you make a trade. I wouldn't mind just having an automatic change though - if I don't like the number, I could easily change it.

I would also like it so that if Kobe gets traded to a team with a guy thats 73 overall and has number 8 than Kobe would wear 8 and the less good player would take a different one.

Yeah...I think NBA Live should take a look at the NHL series for this problem...in NHL 2003 for example...if two players have the same last name the game automatically puts the first initial on the back of the jersey just like in refuZe's example: R. Miller & B. Miller.
In addition, when you trade for a player who has the same number as a player already on your team a screen pops up showing all numbers that are not currently taken on your team and lets you pick a new number for the newly acquired player. New numbers are assigned automatically when trades are made between computer controlled teams.

Good point DANet they should be able to do that.
While on the subject of players with the same last name I also hope they fix the bug where the commentators use the same nickname for players with the same last name.. so you get a rookie in 2009 called Mike Pierce and the commentators call him "The Thruth" or a rookie called Andre Wallace and the comentators call him "The Beast"... I once had two generated rookies on my team and the commentators called them both "The Beast"... it is more annoying then them calling them by their numbers...

that's weird to see that, in Live 2000, when 2 players in a team have the same name, they got their first letter on their jersey !
and if one traded player has the same number than another player, it automatically changes !
this is the little kind of things EA though it wasn't useful to keep
