CLEVELAND, July 3, 2003 -- The Cleveland Cavaliers have signed LeBron James to a contract, it was announced today by Jim Paxson, Senior Vice President and General Manager. Per team policy, contract terms were not disclosed.

James
The Cavaliers selected James in the first round (first overall selection) of the 2003 NBA Draft.

"LeBron brings an exciting new dimension to the Cavaliers and we couldn't be happier to make it official by finalizing his contract,” said Paxson. “We can now get down to work on the court starting with our summer leagues in Orlando and Boston."

James, 6-8, was named the consensus 2003 National High School Player of the Year. He was named the PARADE High School Boys Basketball Player of the Year as a junior and senior, becoming the first repeat winner in the 47-year history of the award. James was also named the USA Today and Gatorade Player of the Year as both a junior and senior.

He led St. Vincent-St. Mary (SVSM) to three state championships in four seasons and was named Mr. Basketball for the state of Ohio by the Associated Press (AP) for three straight seasons, beginning with his sophomore year. He was the first player named to the USA Today All-USA First Team for three consecutive seasons beginning with his sophomore season. For his high school career, he totaled 2,657 points, 892 rebounds and 523 assists in four seasons at SVSM.

Following his senior season, James was named the MVP of McDonald’s High School All-American Game, the EA Sports Roundball Classic and the Jordan Capital Classic.

Did you expect Cleveland not to sign the number 1 pick in the draft?

Needless to say, good move by the Cavs. I remember a couple of years back, Chicago took a long time to sign Eddy Curry and Tyson Chandler. Of course, LeBron James might as well have signed a contract right after the draft lottery, if only that were legal.

What else can he do? Publish a newspaper with bold font "The Cleveland Cavaliers have signed LeBron James" and throws a copy infront of our doors...?! Always...copy and paste.

Didn't the Bulls have a lot of capspace they wanted to preserve that summer?

I think that was the previous offseason (2000), when they failed to sign Duncan, McGrady or Hill, and settled on Ron Mercer.

Am I the only one who's really excited to see how Lebron does in the Summer leagues? I wish they would televise the games.

Here's hoping we see some 20 point, 5 rebound, 5 assist performances. Dajuan Wagner scored 30 points a couple of times in the summer leagues last year.

His agent recently said that he rather have the summer league in orlando behind closed doors, like its always been and give james some time to adapt cuz he's only 18, dont get me wrong i wanna see him play too, but i think it aint such a bad idea from his agent cuz after all he is just a kid, and if everybody is complaining about the hype(im not sayin this to you guys specifically :) ), then let him adapt and focus on him in the season i say, but thats just my humble opinion
