Is your monitor adjusted properly?

Postby Colin on Tue May 09, 2006 9:08 am

I found this basic monitor calibrator on deviantart.

How this works is that you should be able to differentiate between all the different shades of grey along the bottom (all boxes are the same width) and see very slight changes in the dark grey (near-black) along the top. They are very slight along the top so don't worry if you don't see it right away.

First of all, I didn't go around searching for something like that. It was just on a page.

Secondly, for anyone that does graphics design, making sure their monitor is set correctly is very important.

I thought this was pretty cool. I could see all of the changes except for the last one.

I need more contrast, but I'm already at 100. :x

There's something like this that comes with Photoshop (uh ... Adobe Gamma or something like that). It helps you to set up your monitor so photos look as realistic as possible. For anyone doing any kind of photo/graphic art on your PC, this is a must.

If the left-most or right-most blend together you actually have to lower the contrast. What contrast does is lower the number of colours present.

My color for some reason isn't that great, like I can see all those boxes but on CKs black LeBron sig he did with the Lion in the bg, I didn't even see it. People were posting "oh, I like the lion in the back, it looks good' and I'm like 'WTF you guys talkin about?"

Another really useful tool is this gamma corrector to get not only the brightness and contrast, but also the gamma (important for color correction)
